Jumped on the Titanium baseplate as soon as it was released, very stoked to try it! Love my TiBird, but as I want to shave daily, the TiBird was a bit too much for everyday use.

how are you finding the new baseplate? regards dapper shaves
@RaktajinoNX-742052 жыл бұрын
@@dappershaves I like it a lot, makes me able to use my TiBird every day! The blade feel is noticeably reduced while keeping the character of the razor. But as Jon says, the tradeoff is in the efficiency. But make no mistake- still shaves you clean 👍

I borrowed Jason’s Blackbird Lite for a head shave and absolutely loved it. It’s definitely on my buy list for early this year. My GOAT razors are the Aylsworth offerings right now and the Lite fits right into my wheelhouse of hardware with the lower blade feel and enough efficiency for my use case.
@Latherhog2 жыл бұрын
That’s great you were able to try it first Ken! Also makes sense that you wouldn’t necessarily want a super aggressive razor for a head shave.

wonderful content sir. always great to hear your thoughts on new (at least to me) shaving hardware and in particular DE razors. Gentlemen’s Nod is quickly turning into one of my favourite soap makers. They continue to produce wonderful soaps, personally waiting for Musashi. interesting video. how does the blackbird Ti compare to the Rex Ambassador?

The Rex Ambassador has much more blade feel, even on the lowest setting.

Is regular blackbird equals Rockwell R9-10 plates if they existed?
@Latherhog Жыл бұрын
I think if you had to compare to the Rockwell, that'd be fair! Honestly, the Rockwell and Blackbird are kind of night and day if comparing blade feel and efficiency.

Fair review. I’ll be sticking to my Ti for sure but I do think there is a place for this razor in the community.

Very interesting review! So in conclusion, a guy that has the original BB and the Overlander for instance, this plate doesn't add anything of great significance it seems. I also have the TiBird and really like it. And like you I can skip at least one extra day compared to the shaves I get with other razors. A question about the angle range. With the original BB I can go from riding the cap all the way to the handle almost parallel to the face. How is the Lite in that regard?
@Latherhog2 жыл бұрын
I would say the Lite has the same angle range as the original BB, you can choose to ride the cap or not.

Hey John great video. Was wondering how the Wald knot compares to a cashmere knot. Thanks for the content.
@Latherhog2 жыл бұрын
Hi James, I haven’t used the cashmere knot as many have told me that while it is soft, it has little back bone. The Wald synth is a dense and plush synth knot that is very balanced in that regard.

@@Latherhog I ended up picking up the Lite, I'm still new to wet shaving but seem to favor the Lite over my Envoy. I am going to keep using both razors but at this moment, I may go for the Envoy if I don't shave for 3 days but the Lite for the 1-2 day shave. That's what I think it may work out to be.

Many thanks for an informative review. I have the Lite in Stainless Steel and, for me, it is a very comfortable shave. But you are correct, it’s not as efficient under the nose or the chin areas. But for me, the selling point is that I get a good shave with no nicks. As a tip, I have found the if I ride the cap while shaving under my nose, I get a closer shave. Hope that helps. Thanks again for a great video. I need to check out Gentleman Nod soaps.

Thanks for the tip for shaving under the nose, I’ll try riding the cap more in my next shave with the razor!

Do any of the blackland DE razors give a first pass BBS shave? Im looking to get into DE razors, but Im not a fan of doing three passes since I have to be clean-shaven for work.
@Latherhog11 ай бұрын
I think that is really hard to answer as hair type and rate of growth differ greatly for person to person! For me, if I did a shave with one day’s worth of beard growth with the Blackland Blackbird, I might be able to get BBS with one pass, definitely in two.

Nice review Jon as always. I enjoy both plates and am still getting to know them. You asked the question of a mild feeling but efficient razor - have you tried the Yates 921 razor with H and H+ plates? I have heard that the H + is similar to BB in efficiency with less blade feel. The Rex Konsul is another one to try where it feels milder but has surprisingly good efficiency. I can attest to that.

Very helpful - thank you! I had to sell my Blackland razors - all wonderful but I just don’t like blade feel. I would have purchased this in ti and SS but sorry to hear there’s blade feel. Maybe someday Shane will make a Blackbird light light light to match my Meta 4. Low blade feel does not mean you can’t get BBS - I get BBS with Rockwell 2 and 3, Meta-4 and Drakkant every time.

Great review as always ! First with the positive characteristics of this razor for me. This is a gorgeous well made razor with good weight to it. This razor as a perfect amount of blade feel for me. The handle is a beautiful design, but it's more aesthetics than functional. This razor handle is very slick with wet or soapy hands. Not a big problem for me, as I have plenty of other handles if I decide to use this in the shower. Now the one big con, the efficiency. I am a daily or every other day head and face shaver. I thought this razor would be perfect for me as I love my Karve Overlander and Henson razors. I was expecting the efficiency of the Overlander but with more blade feel. Unfortunately, it is the least efficient razor in my entire massive collection. I simply could not get a satisfying BBS with this razor. Again, it give presentable shaves but not BBS. My Overlander and Hensons are my zoom razors when I am in a hurry. I can also zoom with this razor but there is no reason to use it because I will grab my Overlander or Hensons first. As always needs to be stated, this is just my experience after a dozen shaves with it. If you want good SS shavers at a good price, look no further than the Razorock razors.
