I am a migrant. I came to the UK with a visa 7 years ago. I worked, I passed the tests and received the citizenship, using all the right laws and processes. One thing I can say to fellow migrants - if you come here, you have to respect and follow the local laws, traditions and customs. You cannot and should not change the country you come to, but rather change yourself to fit. If we do this, there will be no problems. I don't think there is anything to do with racism. I am a retired policeman and I am ashamed of our country . it seemed to begin with symbolically the paramilitary uniforms that are now being worn , baseball caps , boots , utility belts that sort of thing . On Saturday I spoke with this same Officer regarding a man wearing a full face ski-mask whilst the earlier peaceful vigil was taking place. He told me he had no powers to remove him or request that he remove the mask despite the fact it was intimidating those on the vigil and passers-by. IMO this could only be cowardice and he didn’t want to confront the individual or police bias in favour of the individual and his views. Blackburn in 2024, an awful place.
