One of the coolest things about JoCo's songs is that they always put you into the mood that you're already in. If you're really depressed and you watch this, you'll appreciate the darker undertones of the lyrics. If you're happy or excited or whatever, you'll take the song at face value and enjoy it without thinking too hard. Sometimes, you even feel both at the same time which is strange and kind of worrying. Crap, my comment leaving pill is wearing off.

Lol. All of Jonathan Coulton's songs actually have quite a bit of thought and criticism in them. The fact that they are all pretty upbeat is what makes them genius. This song in particular is a critique of how over-medicated the modern world is. The point is about how there is a pill for every damn thing, when the reality of it is that the meds create a dependency and a false world which is more or less blinding to an individual.

I think the point of this song is that we often over medicate the symptoms without treating the underlying cause. In this case, the character takes medicine for everything without addressing his social isolation. I can't be the only one who's noticed that loneliness is an overwhelming theme in this song. His daily routine seems to consist of going to work and going to bed and little else. He keeps checking his phone with no messages. There's even an entire verse about a date not showing up. I think the line "wine lasts longer when you don't gotta share it with someone" is very telling.
