ya and it's a shame cause firstly camila and lauren aren't even light skinned. they are white. pale ass white. and it's so ugly to see this behavior from every non-white girl group cause the media is pushing this narrative time and time again. the reason why these girl groups break up is because of the racial issue their management teams try to push and of course, they are young so they don't know any better.

@dcamz6875

Nowadays that’s definitely true but this was early 2000s back then people didn’t usually claim discrimination unless there was some evidence/validity to it Now people make up stories about racism everyday but it wasn’t like that back then
@Marc-King777
@Marc-King777 2 жыл бұрын
Well, a "darker-skinned girl" in a female group with lighter women of color experiencing discrimination because she is darker is just a microcosm of society as a whole. Even in today's generally more progressive culture, whenever black people mention racism they face today, a lot of white people are dismissive-- and often accuse them of pulling the race card. They want us to move on from slavery and segregation but they can't move on from the Holocaust or their racist Confederate relics from the American Civil War.

Light Skin Love there’s nothing wrong with making sure dark skin girls are represented. However it’s a issue when your singled out as just the token. It’s a issue as the dark skin girl you treated poorly than everyone else. but you are talented than everyone in the group however you don’t get the respect you deserved. It’s a issue when you get stereotyped because of your skin color. Management tried to pimp her out to get a rap group on tour because they thought she could “Mack” them. These are the issues that Naturi felt being the dark skin color in the group. She was used, kiely simply let the truth slip out

If you notice in girl groups, the dark skinned one normally always has shorter hair. That shit is annoying too. The media is very meticulous in the way they MISREPRESENT us. That's just one small thing to be mentioned. But when they said she wasn't "marketable", it was never their intent to make her marketable. Mainstream knows the maturity of people (especially men) find longer hair more attractive (and marketable). There are definitely some sexy edgy looks with short hair, but they usually push that on the darker skinned woman when they are in a mainstream group. Even when you look at the majority of mainstream dark skinned models, they are usally ALWAYS bald or MASCULINE.... or oddly eccentric in style and makeup. So annoying.

@@szacntrl exactly, it’s taught. That means that it’s gonna take time to unteach. I had no idea about racism when I was 14 because I’m a white person who grew up in a privileged home that did not teach it. 14 is still a child. You cannot expect children to unteach themselves. Now being outright mean to someone? Yeah, that’s old enough to know better. But using stereotypes and micro aggressions, that stuff is more intricately internalized, and it takes maturity and actual education to unlearn that shit. I had no idea what a micro aggression even was until I was 20 years old. That’s what it’s like growing up white in America, this country does not teach us about racism so we have to learn about it on our own when we are old enough to realize the depth that it goes.

bloo jkl45 because she wasn’t trying to be the ghetto, stereotypical dark skin girl. They wanted her in baggy clothes and sneakers and if she wore tight clothes and heels, it was a problem. They all had a “role” to play within their skin tones and she had a problem because everything for the dark skin girl role was offensive and demeaning. So they were just gonna replace her with another dark skin girl who would fall in line was the plan.

God Bless Naturi man, that must be tough having to deal with these confidence crippling issues at such a young age, when all she was doing was trying to sing and work. She handled this situation amazingly, as an adult and even as a child when she was younger. Cutos to her for being fearless and shedding light on this very serious issue.

I think Keiley was soo obnoxious n annoying because, 1. she was 14. 2. Her sister/mom managed them. 3. Her role was supposed to be the "preppy valley/white girl". 4. She thought she was the Beyonce of 3LW. She really thought she was white, so she thought she was better than the 2 minorities. She loved the fact that she was pushed to the front without having to work as hard as the others, just cuz of her skin tone. This explains her behavior in Cheetah Girls. She felt Raven was competition n when Disney did to Raven what has always been done to her in 3LW, she didn't like it. She wanted the starpower n role Raven had.

Keily wasn’t the only problem, but she benefited from the colorism and refused to hear otherwise because her family had power. And Adrienne, who of course isn’t Black, was probably less aware that there was a power dynamic that put Naturi at the bottom, she just new she got top because of the whole “Spicy Latina” concept and didn’t question anything that didn’t effect her. By the time for making statements came, Adrienne was able to deliver everything so eloquently because she actually believed all bs she said. But all that aside, we can’t exactly expect any of the girls of being to blame, they were teenagers and teens fight. The problem here is most teenaged squabbles don’t have enough power to result in life altering consequences. And most teenaged disagreements don’t have the validation of the music industry behind them. Adrienne wasn’t mature enough to realize she all power to change the situation for the better, Keily wasn’t mature enough to realize her actions weren’t warranted and the gravity of the consequences, and Naturi wasn’t mature enough to have to deal with the bull the industry put on dark skinned Black girls/women.
