I think thats why you hear a lot of disrespect towards female rappers nowadays. A lot of the women in rap now didnt come up with a male acquaintance, they werent some established male rapper's sidekick.
@ariesmry3 жыл бұрын
@@emmadilemma7800 This is business more than anything. Their male counterparts either had more leverage in the industry, a strong fanbase, or a record label that allowed them to put on female rappers. Now that the music industry sees how profitable female rappers are, they can skip that process in terms of getting signed, and now, many can remain independent for quite some time. But they still go through a subtle system of being put on, whether it be with who they collab with, who they date, or even their management company.

A lot of theses male rappers just signed a female rapper for diversity and to get a cut of the ladies earnings without having to pay them full price for a verse/feature. Notice how the ladies that were signed under a male rapper's label did a few hit songs with that rapper and those songs made the males even popular but didn't really establish the ladies career. @@Think1stMedia Yes in some cases the woman’s choice have contributed to the downfall of their career. BUT you’ve got to admit the record labels definitely did some of these ladies dirty e.g. not enough promotion
@Think1stMedia3 жыл бұрын
@@freya1136 no I don't have to admit that the labels did them dirty because we have absolutely no proof that they were done dirty. At best we are making assumptions. It costs a lot of money to promote artist and very few freshman albums get lot of money 💰 for their marketing. Big marketing budgets are usually "earned" not given. Of course their is an exception here and there. But most of these ladies were paired with some major rappers on SEVERAL OCCASIONS at that point we must ask what did they do after all that exposure? Charlie Baltimore was given a spot simply because of Big but her talent didn't warrant a spot in a group with him and Jay Z. They HANDED HER OPPORTUNITIES she was not able to capitolize on them. Finally some people just don't make it and that isn't necessarily because a company did them dirty, often it is because the interest in their album was just not there!let's stop this conspiracy theory garbage and blame women for their choices. Not blame everyone else. Vanilla Ice ans Hammer fell off hard and we never blamed the industry we blamed them. That's taking accountability and that's what real adults do. As for Jackie O she earned everything she got. She had no major airplay and wasn't handed big collab opportunities. That lady did most of it on her own. Major props to her. Lil Kim took her opportunities and ran with them and so did Trina. Much respect to Rah Diggah for LYRICALLY being one of the hardest MCs ever. Easily top 3 on the female side but up there with most dudes too. Unfortunately radio didn't play a lot of her stuff. But NEVER HEARD Rah Blame men nor the industry. Shout out to her, she was truly an MC!

Yes but as i've said in a previous comment, female rappers cost more to maintain their image. They need hairstyling, nail techs, wardrobe, make-up, etc., whereas male rappers are relatively easy on a record label's budget in comparison.

Gurl, you should try to get TVOne to give you a Unsung production for the Lost Women of Rap segments! You really did your research 👑

I think one female rapper you missed was Solé! I remember her being featured on the girl group Before Dark single called “Baby” and she had bars for days. She’s also Ginuwine’s ex-wife.
