Blacking Out The Chrome On My Genesis 5.0 R-Spec

I did a complete chome delete on my 2015 Genesis 5.0 about 6 months ago and then I got the entire car ceramic coated. It is literally like driving a totally blacked out mirror. Very elegant and distinguished!

just bought a 2013 3.8 v6 that came with 18% window tint. the previous owner was similar to you and hates the chrome as well as I do. I am excited to try this out to override some of the bad wrap jobs that the older owner has done. Great video !

I'm recently discovering this after taking interest in a similar year 5.0 R-spec, and I sort of agree with the hating of chrome, at least in abundance on modern cars. However I think an interesting look would be to black out the chrome arch on the doors and leave the lower bit chrome, as well as the door molding, combine those horizontal lines of chrome with the door handle chrome and you have "speed streaks" as you go flying by people.

You cant achieve the glossy finish like this but dipping the trims is a good option too. I did my Vette a year ago and they are still holding up good. Just got a genesis, now all about your videos. lol

Xtalgic _ I thoroughly enjoy the fact that you use your car and use it hard while so many other KZbinrs have Garage Diva’s! Got the best compliment the other day from an older gentleman at the gas station who said “That thing looks like Bentley, but it sounds like an animal!🤪🤪”. The x-pipe with the Borla exhaust truly unleashed the true sound of the Tau V-8. Had some douche on another thread about “Cheap 400HP cars” make a comment “it’s still a Hyundai” and my response was “and your point is🤪🤪”. Those who know know and those whom don’t can bite it😡😡😡😡

Love it! I hate chrome trim! I have a silver 2013 R-Spec; blacked out the roof, side mirrors, and window trim. Now I need to find a vinyl that matches the silver to do the rest or have them painted. I'm still envious of black Gennies, tho. :) Thanks for the great videos!

Looks awesome! I have the silver 5.0 non rspec. I will be blacking out the window trim, chrome around the front bumper, and grill. I wand to delete the chrome on the rest of the car but with matching silver. Have you messed with the sound system? I just want to upgrade the sub but I've had problems with the power source and idk if there is something I did wrong. I've been installing for many years. Thanks for the videos! Great video. I am thinking of doing the two panels in between the windows. The previous owners used a roof rack or something that took some of the paint off. What would you suggest as the panels are far wider than the tape? Has anyone done this before? Is there different sizes of tape? Great job.

I also agree that it was a good call not doing the window trim. Clearly, you are being delicate, but do you have any concerns about the blade compromising the paint surface?

Always concerns me lol but what I did to mitigate the risk is stick the blade in between the seam and let that kind of guide me in the cut. Worked out pretty well.

IMO the stock panel filter is far more efficient than any aftermarket system for these cars in particular. Plus I don’t really care to spend hundreds of dollars for single digit gains that they ‘claim’

i plastidip the chrome on my subaru. it works pretty good and holds up for awhile but the process is a little intensive. is this a better way to black out ur chrome than plastidip?

I hate chrome too, its disgustingly ugly on most cars. I tried plasti dip but it peeled off :/

Same, I used plasti dip on my previous car and it got sticky and gross in the heat. This vinyl is much better. Link in description if you’re thinking about it, it’s good stuff, highly recommend.
