I’ve played it, it’s a pretty good game. The way they ended Guild Ball, I won’t be buying or promoting a game from Steamforged Games that is just ‘pretty good’. They had major stock issues; Several of the original teams were not available for years on anywhere but eBay. They knowingly left the game incomplete (several teams will never see their minor teams). And their communication was so poor and spotty, most of the playerbase believes they were not just hostile, but actively blamed the players for a lack of support in the end. Sorry, but I just see Godtear ending as abruptly the next time a good excuse rears it’s head.
@BlackJackLegacy4 жыл бұрын
All I can say mate is we all make our choices and as long as you’re happy then that’s all that matters. I wasn’t involved with Guild Ball and as you may have seen on my video about competitive gaming I see the situation differently but maybe as I don’t really have strong ties with the game or the company. What happened with Guild Ball won’t stop me playing or supporting a game I enjoy and if it ends I’ll still have all of the products I’ll have bought to keep playing it.
@derekgarcia30694 жыл бұрын
I wasn't involved with Guild Ball, so i can't speak to that. As far as the idea of SFG killing support of Godtear, that won't change the game I have. SFG can stop releasing characters tomorrow, and I still own a fantastic game. It's like when GW killed WH Fantasy; all of those players could still play the game for years, unless you can't play a game that you can't buy new things for?? Now, if you play competitively that's it's own thing with it's own challenges, but I also have zero interesting in structured, competitive play.
@SuperDuperHappyTime4 жыл бұрын
BlackJack Legacy What I mean to say is, I’m not salty it ended, but the way it ended has soured me on the company for now. It’s not a “I’ll never buy from them again.” But if they want my money, there’s some things that will have to happen first. (Finishing the missing teams, getting behind the player’s community-run effort, Kickstarter so people can finish their collections, just a few ideas).
@BlackJackLegacy4 жыл бұрын
That’s my point really - I think I saw the announcement differently as I wasn’t part of that community and so I’ve no reason to feel hurt by it. To me it felt like some folks took it the wrong way (in my opinion) and that seemed to get spread as fact. As in all big announcements there’s always more to it than meets the eye but none of that stops Godtear from being potentially my game of the year.

Great view Andy! I attended the launch event back in December, played the game and picked it up straight away. I was very impressed with how simple it was but the depth as well. I need to get it off the shelf again and find someone to play with!

Thanks mate. Honestly mate this was so much better than I’d expected from what little I knew. I can’t stop putting extra champions in my online basket!
@derekgarcia30694 жыл бұрын
Great review, for a widely under-appreciated game. I was worried that it was going to be DoA as no one was talking about it after the KS delivered, but SFG seems to have a steady release schedule going. Also, unlike Guild Ball, as there are no set factions/teams, every Champion is viable for everyone, which is great from a marketing perspective.
@BlackJackLegacy4 жыл бұрын
I was super surprised that there was so little talk about it online and I thought the worst about it but I couldn’t have been more wrong. I agree with the no set faction thing too - it means every new release is available for everyone and not just one new release for one team.

Didn't know it had a campaign which makes it even more interesting, at least for me. Thanks lot for this review!

You’re welcome mate. I never realised about the campaign either so thought it was important to mention as it might be a deciding factor for some folks.

Seems quick and easy to get to the table. I do like being able to reference cards without having to keep checking back in the books. I feel like it’s quite a similar game to WH Underworlds if maybe a bit more complex.
@BlackJackLegacy4 жыл бұрын
It’s actually very different to WH Underworlds - that was the mistake I made before I played it too. Whilst I think WHU is good I don’t like the fact it’s essentially a card game whereas this is a much more tactical miniatures game. I’d say Godtear was the more straight forward one to play - WHU gets a little confusing for newer players in the mid round phase or playing and drawing cards. This is one of those game that after one round you just know how to play.
@moosemoosington4 жыл бұрын
BlackJack Legacy it seemed more complex in your vid but yeah the card side of things is difficult to master in WHU for sure
@BlackJackLegacy4 жыл бұрын
Try exposing how to play WHU and review it in 12 mins! WHI would be a lot more confusing. As an example there’s no need to make a 5 rules folks get wrong video for this game!

Great video again. Definately peaked my interest with this one. Seems simple enough but also a good level of tactics.

The game is all about strategy and tactics. The dice give that element of randomness that keeps a game fun but even the mid turn things like placing objective hexes is super tactical. It’s a great game.

It's nice to see that what your initial thoughts of the game were versus what you think after playing it and it really speaks for a game if it manages to change your opinion.
