That’s because most people don’t read the book and the narratives that provide context. I prefer ppl not to assign themselves a primary love language if they haven’t done the reading or quiz 😅. Oftentimes people shoot from the hip on what they think their love language is rather than doing a self investigation on how it is so. I expected all 5 of them to say what a lot of men say and thas “pHyZiCaL tOuCh iZ mAh LuV LaNgUaGe” lol. Instead they came with other good view points. I’m not really sure if The 5 Love Languages really teach others about how to love the other as much as it suggests conditioning of certain kinds of treatment 😕. The jury is still out for me on the usefulness of them.

Ppl keep saying "communication isn't a love language" but I'm trying to understand who determines what is and isn't a love language for someone? The purpose of a "love language" is a determination of how love resonates with them. I think the 5 love languages are a guide, not a blueprint. Fluidity in a relationship is a necessity, but if that's what I appreciate and need the most it's MY love language. Imo 🤷🏿

Thank you for saying this. Focus on the message not the title of the video. Our Brothas openly expressing themselves about love and love languages. Guess what? I’m actually happier that they haven’t read the book and if they have, they chose to speak on THEIR love languages. Instead of being stuck on what someone else decided that the “5 love languages” are.....let’s listen and hear and pay attention to what our partner needs. Find that out. Seek that out. Let’s not be so strict on ourselves or our people that we think their love language has to be defined in a book written by someone other than self or your partner. Truly, read their book. Their inner book. Your persons inner book. Let’s not limit ourselves and let’s not limit our partner based on someone else’s outline/guide....I pray that when love finds me....I can be open to all of the possibilities of the way my person loves and Vice versa. 🖤

See... these types of conversations are Sliver and Gold! Love languages should *NOT* be limited to the 5 we read in the book on "5 love languages". I think these men are talking about how they organically express Love as opposed to which of the 5 love languages they practice. And there's something very important ladies.. It's important that we learn to LISTEN and hear our men. It's not so much important that we didn't hear acts of service or words of affirmation verbatim.. one mentions communication and how honesty & transparency matters in his expression.. and so words of affirmation can't be out of reach. All love languages ARE a necessity just as much as communication is, depending on who's on the receiving end and their own needs. Point is, when you ask your man his love language and he doesn't cite 1 from the 5 we all know... lean in even closer. That's a teaching moment. His interpretation of love language and how HE expresses his love gives you the power to operate from a place of KNOWLEDGE. When you know your man, you understand him better. Then, go ahead and explain to him your own love language(s) out of the 5 and let him know what you expect to receive from him to feel Loved. When we really listen to one another... We learn better how to love one another. Selah

@@janegachiri2163 yes Sis.. you're absolutely right. When people think of words of affirmation as a love language and try to separate that from communication, I'm perplexed. Lots of people know how to effectively communicate in areas of work and in their regular relating but there Are some of those who don't necessarily know how to be vulnerable when communicating especially when emotions are high.. (which was one context explained by a man in this vid)so a person who says they lay emphasis on that kind of communication in expressing their love... It definitely is valid. The 5 love languages are just a guide to identify which ways of expressing affection take priority for each of us. The questions designed in the quizz only factor in those 5 parameters. But what of people who place a greater importance on say spiritual covering through prayer as means of expressing love? Those people who share everything they have with those they love as a way of expressing their love? Children express love in very different ways also. To always want to make people you love laugh (like for one in the vid) is a legit way of expressing love. What happens to all these other forms too? My point is... Over 7 billion people on earth of varying backgrounds, upbringings, languages and we expect that all these people will have only 5 ways of expressing love? Really? Sigh. Whats most important is knowing how the people we love want to be loved and how they express theirs. The rest is just information that can be very useful when applied correctly!! Jus sayin. (All this said in love and respect) Salaam.

That is what bothers me most. Instead of appreciating men opening up and hopefully, gaining insight and learning something some want to counter that what they are saying ISNT a love language. If this man says this is how he loves and what he needs...THAT IS HIS LOVE LANGUAGE. Why are people so caught up on a certain author’s description of what he deems love languages are? They are literally saying “Communication is my love language. Laughter is my love language.” Who is anyone else to say “that’s not a love language”. Bro said he believes it’s more than 5. The title may have been like that to reel you in to test u not to judge the title and miss the message. That clearly shows how/why misunderstandings happen and how you don’t understand each other’s “languages” bcuz you speak your language and aren’t PATIENT enuff to teach or break urs down & also don’t study theirs. If you religious, understand each other’s role and how to help each be the best in their own role. Don’t try to fill their role bcuz it isn’t up to par but help them to be better or understand their role as well. It’s not just about open expression but the ability to understand what someone is trying to communicate. @@kkjannah I have to disagree with some of what you said. Words of affirmation is a type of communication and a love language, not the other way around. I do agree that knowing how to communicate with your partner so they feel loved is essential, but words of affirmation is distinct and specific. Everyone needs good communication for their relationship to thrive and not just survive. But not everyone needs their partner to compliment them to feel loved. That's not to say that chronic negative talk to and about your partner is not damaging

This was a great discussion. That was cool that they added their individual love languages. Just because the book itself has five doesn’t mean they can’t add to the list. That’s a part of growth.

I appreciate the conversation and thought it was cute that they weren't prepared and created their own. I asked my husband what would he consider his love languages outside of the 5... on another note, I appreciate the brother to the right of the screen in the red shirt because he knew what all the 5 languages were but didn't feel he needed to correct them. That takes wisdom ...to understand you can still reach the objective without being particular about the content

This is so refreshing to hear you men speak because we need our strong men but it’s also ok to be vulnerable. This makes me know there’s hope since most of you men love language is communication, our men have been afraid to speak out . In some homes or society make them believe it was a sign of weakness but it’s actually a sign of strength.

Salute to these guys for a really good in-depth conversation. It's unfortunate that some people will get hung up on word semantics. I've been married to wife well over a decade. And I've never read Gary Chapman's book. I don't need him to tell me about love languages. I need to listen to and observe my wife and let her tell me HER love languages. And then act accordingly. I also need to have enough self awareness to know my own. And then I need the proper communication skill to express it to her. Some of you care more about the theory (Chapman's specific 5) than listening to men express reality. If that's the case why even watch this video? Go watch a video of Gary Chapman talking about his book.

Well this is my first time being on here and I have to say I enjoyed listening to the men's round table and speaking on love languages The point that I cherish so much is the fact that we dig deep down inside and look at ourselves from our childhood and from our experiences and we learn and grow from them and the mistakes we've made and to learn to be a better version of ourselves So I truly enjoyed the gentleman that talked about going to therapy but I truly enjoyed all of them because as men sometimes and meaning sometimes and some people do not open up and share their feelings so I really appreciate the communication and wanting to dig down deep and learn more about yourself and wanted to grow and do better and then realize the mistakes that we've made in the past and we don't want to repeat those same mistakes So I thank you so much for your enlightenment of your conversation from a man's perspective which is always as a woman so I might need to find out God bless you all from Teresa.

Fun to listen to you men talk,.... I am so grateful that my parter and I have exactly the same love languages, values, beliefs and that he found me. I love that he found me and we have deep mutual respect,.... there are no arguments, no changes and we make each other laugh! Oh and the best is that we are so patient with each other. Relationships use to be hard till he walked into my life and was blown away by me just being me. People do not settle,... I do not think it needs to be a competition or game. Just be real but be light and kind.
