Is the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K FF worth the upgrade from the BMPCC 6K Pro? Both cameras are part of the more popular cinema cameras today from Blackmagic Design.

Thank you! As far as image quality, you can't go wrong with either of them. Having the false color, focus peaking, and exposure zebras is a huge help as a solo shooter, and both have that. Cheers!

Also / the thing to consider is what lenses you have. The Pocket 6k is EF, the Full Frame is L Mount. They can easily be adapted if you’re using Cine lenses where the F stops are adjusted on camera. Otherwise you’re investing in a $200-$300 adapter.

The BMPCC 6K Pro does not make separate proxy files like the new full frame does. But, they can easily be made in your NLE. Thank you!

Great video! I currently have a rigged out 4k (with ext battery, matte box and nd filters, ext monitor etc.) and I am also not sure if it is worth the upgrade to a 6K G2, 6K Pro or 6K FF. Lots of the perks of the 6k are already in my rig and apart from the resolution, the image and look seems similar and not that of a HUGE difference? Or perhaps a 6K is more future proof and better for (short) narrative films? I don’t know for sure… I'm considering upgrade to 6K G2 over the other two, because the difference of the 6K Pro pretty much only is the built-in ND filter. But on the other hand… 6K FF is amazing as well. Choices, choices. Thank you!

I love hearing these stories! I have a similar rig for my 4K but rarely use the matte box. My biggest live on the newer BM cameras is the touch screen monitor with false color, etc. If you are using EF lenses maybe the 6k pro? I do love having full frame now and the EF to L mount option is doable. Cheers!

​@@mattspadesoundandvision Thanks for your reply! So I already have a BMPCC 4k + speedbooster. And I already use EF lenses. I'm considering an upgrade to 6k G2, because of the 6k resolution and I'm looking for a leap in quality, sharpness, colors, overall "look" and perhaps a more future proof camera. But I am not sure if BMPCC4k to 6K G2 will make that much of a difference and is worth the upgrade. As for other features: because I already have a BMPCC 4k rig with a speedbooster, and ext. monitor, and a v-mount, some of the improvements of the 6k G2 (like better battery life, flippable monitor, EF mount) aren't THAT important. For me, I want to make short narrative films (relatively small crew), documentary stuff and make my clients happy with all kinds of videocontent. The 6k G2 has a crazy deal of €1500 and if I sell my BMPCC 4k (+cage + speedbooster), it is only €400 extra for me to upgrade..

Id go with a 6k pro for jobs and quick turn around. Id stay with the production cam for passion projects... CDNG especially when graded in after effects just looks so color dense and textured

Keep in mind , the new full frame creates a Proxy folder in camera. Granted the files are HD and H.264 but that could be what some clients want for social media posts.

I want to find a camera can record High quality Color- profile for post to tweak and Research Feature Film Looks. Is BMPCC F.F the best Color against to Sony canon ? since only it can record 12bit B-Raw internal ! I'm looking for a camera body that the budget camera is under 3500K and can get the best color in the current market! If I get a7s3 with External Record output 16bit proresraw (guess its linear) and compare it to the 12bit B-raw (un-linear?) Are they get the same result ? (B-raw is more friendly since I use the Davinci Resolve) Or BMPCC F.F B-Raw have more room to play with !? THX For the Video , It help me quick understand these two !

That's a tough question to answer since it's a bit subjective. I feel like Blackmagic has the better colors out of Sony and Canon. I own a Canon. Where Sony comes in the lead is if you want image stabilization, auto focus with facial recognition/follow. The colors on Sony are good but BM has internal RAW. When I bought my first camera I spent more time watching tutorials and discussing with camera owners before making my decision. Feel free to reach out with any questions. I'm happy to help.

@@mattspadesoundandvision I just find some A7s3 or fx3 user also have blkm. for different shooting purposes, more well setup situations blk raw, Run n gun Sony, so better colors with blk and quick shooting style with Sony… Ah… that’s two systems to have in set.. Can’t not record prores is a bit convenient for you? (always raw or -1080p proxy usable?) It can’t record 4k with the same frame, have to crap in ,always 6k or crap in sensor to get 4k ? when crap in :it’s a super 35mm size, FF sensor quality with 4k resolution? or same as the super35mm sensor ?

@@supermortal You are correct. I prefer BRAW so tehe loss of Prores was not an issue for me. The proxy files do help when uploading to Resolve, or if someone is ok with HD clips @ H.264 As far as 4K resolution, if you don;t want to lose image with the crop, just set the timeline resolution to 4K. It's always better to make a 6K source a 4K file. And yes, the FF sensor will crop for 4k.

@@mattspadesoundandvision BMFFC Proxy can set 1080p with 10 bit or 8bit ? Guess is similar as Sony proxy (XAVC HS HD 16M 4:2:0 ,XAVC S 6M 4:2:0)

It's probably worth saying explicitly that Blackmagic Raw only works in FCPX with 3rd party tools.

I feel like I have new lenses now. The 14mm takes on a whole new world in video. Granted I use the same lenses on my stills camera, which is full frame.
