It is a great time to be a content creator.

@NeonShores5 жыл бұрын
Yeah exactly. The Pocket 4K is for budget filmmakers and spending 3 times the price of the camera on 2 monitors just doesn't really fit that budget mindset.
@mondobytes5 жыл бұрын
Neon Shores not entirely true, the cost of the BMPCC4K is much higher then you think. Sure, the body is inexpensive but it requires much more to actually make it useable. Also just because it's inexpensive doesn't mean you can't use it for professional work. In fact, I've seen many in the wild that are used as B Cams for RED cameras.
@NeonShores5 жыл бұрын
@@mondobytes No I totally get it, there's more cost to owning a cinema camera than just the body. But the setup you're showing here is for an A cam, and most people buying the Pocket for their primary camera are looking to spend $3K on their whole rig, camera included...not $3K just for monitors. We want to get into quality filmmaking without crushing our wallets. And those who use it as a B cam are already established and have the money to sink into more expensive equipment. These monitors look amazing, and I'd love to have them but they just aren't fiscally feasible for semi beginners.
@mondobytes5 жыл бұрын
@@NeonShores That's totally understandable and I'd agree with you if I would have titled the video "Budget Monitor Setup" I mean the lens alone probably cost more than the camera and all of the accessories together, this clearly isn't for the budget minded person and more for someone doing professional work.

Hi, I know this is a stupid question but I'm starting out and have invested a lot of money before learning about videography. My question is: the screen on the Blackmagic Camera 6k is essentially what I will see on my SmallHD Cine 7 monitor? I ask this because my battery is blocking the camera screen so I want to reply on the monitor. So, will I see a duplicate of what I would ordinarily see on the Blackmagic Screen? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated particularly about how to use the Cine 7 monitor as the Instruction Manual is just too difficult to understand.

@mondobytes5 жыл бұрын
Ian Robertson I personally wouldn't trust a Feelworld monitor for client work. SmallHD has way better options for just a bit more. Also what makes this system unique is not the monitor but the fact there's a wireless transmitter and receiver built into them.
@ianrobertson13945 жыл бұрын
Yea at what price, we who are on a budget have to find alternative ways to make it work, the client is more interested in the end product than the during. They didn't hire to impress them with electronics but to give them what they ask for am I right or wrong, the end product is what counts, if they want to be impressed them most of us are out of business. You can have the best,most expensive equipment, but that don't make you the best.
@mondobytes5 жыл бұрын
@@ianrobertson1394 It's not about impressing the client it's about using tools that are reliable and accurate. A monitor like Feelworld doesn't have the same features as something like SmallHD or Atomos. There's a reason why you walk into almost any commercial set and you see companies like SmallHD, Atomos, TVLogic, etc. Because when you're getting paid to do something you can't afford to have any errors or have things look off. The biggest reason why monitors have built in LUT's is to show the client what it could look like, everyone aside from the film crew could care less and will always just see the image in LOG. But when the client is paying top dollar and you show up with your Freeworld Monitor and the image looks green or the monitor starts to glitch out, I think that will say a lot about you and your production but to each their own. Funny thing I was just reading this before you left this comment: www.dropbox.com/s/66cxbb7ixil9tfs/budget.png?dl=0 and I have that product they're talking about, it's actually really good and I plan to make a video on it, but again it falls into that "budget" realm where yes it's inexpensive and it works but I would NEVER trust that in a professional set because there are compromises. But I guess if you don't care about those things then more power to you, people run their business however they want. I will charge my clients based on the gear I have and making sure that I can deliver on that promise because I TRUST in my gear.

It's incredible isn't it? A camera with a 5" high resolution screen, built-in cooling fans, enormous data throughput capability, no external storage required for the most data intensive formats and yet it requires more power than a DSLR with no where near the specifications. Who'da thought!
@mondobytes5 жыл бұрын
Interesting that my C200 with built-in cooling fans, internal RAW + Proxies Recording at the same time (no external storage required) powering an EVF and a monitor with a battery the so small it's the size of 2 Canon LP put together can outlast the pocket with a V-Mount battery, Who'da thought!? Sorry man, but every BM product I own sucks at battery those are facts! They need to get their stuff together, it's really unacceptable.
@AustralianImage5 жыл бұрын
Given that the C200 comes with a 45Wh battery (90Wh optional) and the BMPCC4K uses a 14Wh battery (genuine Canon with mine), the former should last at least 3x longer. Also, the cost of the CFast cards (to record Cinema RAW light) along with the cost of the batteries makes a big difference. I get at least 6 hours out of my 120Wh V-lock battery (that cost less than a Canon BP-A30), which includes powering a monitor, and the two Samsung 1TB SSDs, which cost less than one 256GB CFast card. The issue I had was the emphasis on battery life, making it appear a huge issue when in reality it's not. As a cinema camera, it's going to be rigged out like most cinema cameras and that generally means external batteries (or lots of small batteries in one's pocket). The other issue was the emphasis on the so-called 'hidden' true cost of ownership, when the same applies to every cine/video camera on the planet. No one buys just a cine camera body and lens and that's it.
@mondobytes5 жыл бұрын
@@AustralianImage I can only speak for myself and our team but we NEVER use more than 2 batteries on a full day shoot on the C200 and this with the smaller BPA30 battery that ships with the camera. If I used a V-Mount battery it would last 24 hours easily! In regards to recording CFast this is what I use and it's way cheaper! - kzbin.info/www/bejne/oICmloKsptB6n7c The battery issue is a big problem, not because you need to look into external options but because the external options block the display forcing you now to use an external monitor 🤦 This is NOT the case with the C200 or other Cinema cameras and TBH we use our C200 99% with just a lens and everything that came in the box. We never feel or have the need to add anything else because it just works. There are many hidden costs with the BM camera and the true cost of ownership is far from the $1,200 BM makes it seem. In fact Carlos did a great video on this on his channel explaining the TRUE COST of ownership: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYCocphuqp2DjrM Although I feel he was a bit generous with the price and I find it to be WAY MORE if you want to be on par with other cinema cameras. Sure you could argue that you don't "need" these other items but this camera is truly handicapped from the factory and requires many accessories to fully take advantage of it's capabilities.
@AustralianImage5 жыл бұрын
I saw that video and it just perpetuates the meme that the BMPCC4K is far more expensive to own than imagined. The reality is that all the accessories that you can buy for the camera are optional, you can be as minimal or as comprehensive as you want depending on your needs (it can be just a body and lens). It's no different to owning a Panasonic GH5, Sony A7 or a Canon 1Dx, they all need accessories depending on your usage. I've seen people say that microphones, ND filters etc reveal the true cost of ownership of a BMPCC4K (as if no other camera needs any accessories). But to put some perspective on things and to compare apples with oranges, the C200 costs over 5x that of a BMPCC4K. Even rigged out like my BMPCC4K is, the C200 costs around 3x as much for just a bare C200. My entire rig plus some extras cost less than US$2700. The point is, accessories 'will' add to the price of any camera, but only the user can determine what accessories they will need. It's therefore not reasonable to make out as if the camera costs way more because you believe that it needs thousands spent on accessories.
@mondobytes5 жыл бұрын
@@AustralianImage I don't agree, again you could argue you could keep it minimal but the camera is very handicapped coming out of the gate. It's just not usable compared to say a C200 where you could actually buy and literally attach a lens and SD Card (which every camera needs) and you have everything you would ever need including PRO audio setup with 2 XLR inputs, Built in ND Filters, Top and Side handle (no cage required) articulating display with a fantastic EVF, incredible battery life, dual pixel auto focus, beautiful color science with 12bit RAW internal recording, a true Cinema Super 35mm Sensor not Micro 4/3 uses EF Mount which means a plethora of available glass and a whole bunch of other features that will just dwarf the BMPCC4K. So when you say it costs 5X as much or 3X as much it's highly inaccurate. Because you're also not comparing Apples to Apples, just the Audio setup alone is about $1,000 you would need a MixPre 6 to get and equivalent sound setup. Also, let's not talk about used, I've seen many C200 with accessories go for under $5,000 which IMO is a way better buy than a BMPCC4K but that's a whole different subject on it's own. The point here and I think we got way out of subject is that the BMPCC4K battery sucks and that's a fact, I compared it to the C200 which is almost equivalent in size and has way more things working like audio, DPAF that are essentially draining the battery. BM just sucks at optimizing their products for battery, I have a BM 7" Monitor that takes 2 Canon LP batteries and it dies in 30 minutes! WTF! My SmallHD monitor with just 1 Canon LP Battery will last 1 hour and a half and it's WAY Brighter. Don't get me wrong the BMPCC4K is a dope camera but it's far from a budget camera and also has many quarks.

Armando Ferreira I understand perfectly how much equipment can cost, especially in a professional setting. I’m a film and television director. I just have to disagree with you. I’m almost sure that 90% of your audience will find this particular setup expensive even if the alternative is 10 times more. It’s like saying: get a Porsche because it’s so much cheaper than a Ferrari or a Lamborghini. It’s still expensive as hell to get a Porsche. That’s my point. And remember this is an accessory, an add on to a setup. It’s more than double the price of the camera it’s sitting on. If it were sitting on an Arri or RED maybe the contrast wouldn’t be so obvious. I say again I think 3000$ for a wireless setup targeted to the potential audience this channel has is objectively expensive. PS: Don’t take me wrong. I love your work and this channel. It’s just my opinion and my observation.

@@TheFilmmakingChannel I'd agree with you if there was an alternative, but your Analogy of Porsche vs Ferrari doesn't apply here because there's no other option. In other words, there is no other company that is making a monitor/transmitter combo. So this is more like Saying only horses exist and this is the first car available to the mass market. Calling it expensive when there's no equivalent product out there would be a disservice to SmallHD and Teradek. Simply put it solves a BIG problem that is needed every day even on smaller projects. Just the other day we used this on a gimbal, if you've ever operated a gimal with a camera, monitor, wireless transmitter, follow focus and basically fully rigged you'll understand how heavy it can be. Shaving off 1-2lbs is HUGE and not to mention the convenience factor where you can't even put a price on that. So once again, price is subjective. Just like how some people were saying my Sacthler Tripod is expensive ($3,000) yet everyone I know that owns one including myself would even pay double that because of how much it saves your back from lifting the camera and health is something you can't put a price tag on. I respect your opinion and it's OK if you find this product expensive and clearly this isn't for you, but I can assure you if you did need a solution where you needed to keep weight down and also have wireless monitoring and you used it every day, all of a sudden your perception of value would change. In any case, thanks for commenting love having discussions like this if and when there's a cheaper alternative I will make sure and cover it on my channel as I think it's also important but as of now there's nothing out in the market like this and I feel it's important people know about it because it is truly a game changing product.

So does the lens and other accessories on that camera, heck the Metabones adapter alone is $700! I really need to make a video on the TRUE cost of ownership of this camera, so much false info out there.

I know!!! This would be perfect for my C200. I'm hoping they add something like Atomos did with their Shinobi where it's an add-on. Not the best solution but I'd take that over HDMI any day.

This whole thing cost 2 BMPCC 4k , It will empty your account. I built my wireless monitor in $600,And using it for 2 years shooting small business commercial. By using Nyrius wireless transmitor and gechic 13" monitor. can you imagine how clear you can see focus in a 13" monitor. the only thing not so perfect is hard to rig the monitor.and it's not work on BMPCC 4k.

diaozhatian yujian that's awesome but I personally wouldn't want to have that setup when using a gimbal, carrying that big monitor with a transmitter seems painful but that's awesome that you have something that works for you.

Dwight Stewart That's usually the case with most cameras for example most lenses cost 2 to 3x more than the camera. Heck the Metabones adapter almost cost the same as the camera 🤣

The biggest problem with Black Magic cameras is, and always has been, that they are... how to put it right? Crap! Black Magic simply never managed to bulit a professional camera that actually worked.
