Learn the ins and outs of the Blackmagic 4K Production Camera with this walkthrough. Get to know the advantages for using this camera on a green screen and workarounds for its downfalls. If you are looking at Blackmagic's other cameras, this camera's layout is identical to their Cinema Camera and the menu structure would be very similar across the rest of Blackmagic's range.
For audio we recommend using an external audio recorder like our Zoom H4n, which comes with the camera hire, as the internal audio of the Production Camera is only good for reference.
More videos will be coming soon where we show you the workarounds for white balancing the camera as well as fixing the "black spot" issue in post. If you have any suggestions for future videos let us know in the comments.

Finally a good quick video on the BMCC. Short and to the point. Loved it. Quickly resolved why I couldn't get the focus button to add the green outlines for focus. I wasn't double tapping it! Thanks a million!

HELP, i haave the same camera I just Bougth it used, but the menus are very diferrent it only has Camera Settings,Audio SettingsRecorder Setings, ,Disply Settings. I cant acess or find the Format menu, o change the output for the monitor sdi 1080 outpu, it says SDI Overlays i neeed the SDI OUTPUT FORMAT

Thank you for the walkthrough! I never knew you can double tap the screen to zoom in on the display! which video had the tutorial on the atmos monitor and white balance? I couldnt find it on your channel

I have never touched or seen one before till now, but I can't get the screen to focus in all I see is if my hand is on it, and movement. How can I fix that?

I find it difficult to use SATA cards despite trying multiple brands and sizes (Samsung, Crucial, etc ....) The fact is that when I insert the card, it is not often recognized (sometimes yes) and I have to insert and remove it several times (sometimes with almost a lot of force) to see "Ready" appear in the display. Is there a solution to this problem?

Excelent review! Congrats! I have the same camera BMPC 4k and have issue removing green in FCPX, If you please. I need to know what are the parameters you use in your camera to have a optimal chroma key This is driving me crazy! thank´s!

Hi +Damian Ruz be sure to record using ProRes HQ 4:2:2, it would be almost as good as recording in RAW but file sizes are much much smaller. Also make sure your white balance in the camera matches the lights you are using. Be sure to use lights that are the same colour as mixing different white balances can cause havoc. Make sure your subject is entirely in focus (so use higher f stops like f5.6 instead of f2.8 to reduce out of focus blur) and if you have fast moving action consider using a faster shutter angle like 90 degrees to reduce motion blur. There are many other elements that will affect the quality of a chroma key and we have listed a few below. When filming be sure to remove or minimise the following: any shiny materials, glitter or reflections; any green but also yellow or aqua clothing/props etc; any green spill bouncing onto the subject (so keep your subject away from the background as much as possible and cover any green you don't need); any shadows or hot spots on the green screen (so light as evenly as possible where your subject will be); any creases or wrinkles on the green backdrop (if filming on green material). Wide shots where you can see subject touching the floor for instance are incredibly difficult to get an instant great key so often you may have to manually rotoscope the feet and or shadows separately to get it looking as nice as possible. Filming close ups or mid shots you won't have that problem so you should be able to concentrate on minimising green spill as much as possible while lighting the background as evenly as possible.
