I always use the 1080 setting, and I've been thinking about upgrading recently so all I need to do is switch the setting over to 2.5k and bam it's upgraded. I can't imagine working with more than 2.5k - 1080p video takes up enough space as it is.

@Sha Money The Best Rapper Ever I have the P4K, and the original BM cams with the Fairchild sensor. I can’t, for the life of me, get the same beautiful skin tones out of the modem BM cameras as the old ones. That old Fairchild sensor just seems to render skin in a gorgeous, multi-dimensional color. I wish it wasn’t the case, because the new ones are SO much easier to use. But if it’s image quality you’re looking for, you can’t beat classic Blackmagic (unless you go Alexa, obviously).

I had 3 of these cameras. I thought the same way like you but in the end I just had a lot of problems. The battery is a joke, most of my Canon lenses were not compatible. I had focus problems with the prime lenses; the monitor didn't show what was actually recorded. I couldn't use an external monitor because none of the SDI outputs worked! With external batteries or power banks, the cameras sometimes suddenly switched off and the touch screen of all 3 cameras was faulty. So, enough said …
@cinechimp10 ай бұрын
Oh man sounds like you got some duds. Sorry to hear that. Did you try and send any of them back to BMD for warranty repairs? Funnily enough, I have 3 of these now, maybe your old three….and you are right, one battery is napf, but one is good for about 30 minutes and the other lasts almost an hour, that's not too bad for 12 year old rechargeable batteries. I believe they are easily replaceable, which is what I am going to find out. The touch screen on all the units I have ever used have been flawless, except for one unit which I purchased with a smashed screen, but in all fairness BMDs first rounds of cameras were similar to the quality control in Italian sports cars, unreliable. But maybe I have been lucky as I have never had the screen on these or any camera for that matter no show me what was actually being recorded, but I may be miss understanding that part of your comment.

Hey just fyi, the $900 Laowa 9mm f5.6 is a mirrorless only full frame lens, it wouldn’t fit on the EF mount BMCC. There is a micro four thirds mount f2.8 9mm which would work with the m43 version of the camera, but it’s only around $400(usd). If you want an adaptable wide angle that would work with the EF mount, there is a Sigma 8-16mm for Canon EF-S and Nikon F mount crop sensors, as well as ~10-24, 12-24, 11-24, etc from Tokina, Sigma, Tamron, Canon, Pentax, and others. You shouldn’t have to pay more than 500 for a good secondhand rectilinear lens that could work as a wide on that sensor, and you could probably find some good options for around 300 with some patience. Sorry if you knew all that already, just thought it might be helpful. I have the Laowa 9mm 5.6 and love it on Nikon Z but I know it wouldn’t fit and would kinda be overkill if it did (just in terms of the full frame image circle).

It's like a once every 1.5 decade winter storm! Even non-migratory birds are huddling inside doorways. Anyway, I do really enjoy BM's BRAW so much, such a fantastic, lightweight codec, I love the BMPCC4K. This OG BMCC is still definitely worth having and looking forward to seeing what you do with it. CineChimp No power outages. All are well, thanks for asking. We acquired new kittens before the storm hit so it's been loads on entertainment. So SO much snow. It really feels and looks like Ontario, Canada more than the Midsouthern US right now. They don't have very many salt trucks in the major southern cities, so the streets are like over 7" or more of snow in many places. I'll get a bunch of footage on my BMPCC4K in BRAW. I use a large MTB12 mattebox in order to use IRND w/that cam, so I will drop it down to temp and grab some footage. BMPCC6K PRO... yes, we were just gabbing about BM quality, the great deal factor, etc., and they unload the Pro yesterday. I will likely grab one on the next proj. I like the Sony batt, and the internal IRNDs *majorly* bc I do like shooting light and that means it would allow me to drop the matte box for a lot of stuff and just fill my pockets w/NPF batts. I remember being blown away by the raw files and overall film like image quality. Smooth highlight roll-off. But i really really hated the moire that ruined shots in the beginning as i tried to monitor with the god aweful built-in lcd. Would be much easier with a BM Video Assist nowadays at 2500nit in daylight. Also when doing ETTR for lowest noise. The fun part was the Cinema DNG image sequences that this camera shot. Many times i didn't even grade in Davinci Resolve, but in Adobe Lightroom. Yes you read it correctly, Lightroom. Creating a Look on a reference frame and doing batch exports with that look on the whole image sequence. Call me crazy but the end result was pure gold as grading the 12 bit Cinema DNG felt like editing RAW photos. Back then i had a top of the line 512 SSD which you really needed. And hot swapping SSDs from camera into pc was effortless.

Hi thanks for some fantastic input. Yes I do remember some people using that workflow back in the day, but I have always just used resolve on a Mac which has always been super easy with no playback issues. Today, the files are like butter on hot toast - silky smooth. You know you can change out the IR filter with a more modern one which drastically reduces the moire...

Hello the BMCC 2.5K is a good camera. And the video quality and photography look spectacular. I love cinema and as a hobby I make short films and I have a Nikon D2300 and I have done work with them and I have given them good photography and it looks great. Now I want to buy a film camera to record good quality for my work and I don't want to spend on an expensive camera either and I've seen the BMCC for 800 and the 4k is also good but it's expensive and the 6k pro is over 2,000 and I've seen your video And seeing the camera I liked the raw cinema quality that it records, it would also be compatible with a Nikon Af lens so as not to have to buy a canon lens and which one do you recommend is or is the 4k 6k better. Good job on your videos.
@cinechimp2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, these are all great points and fantastic questions. And the Nikon you have is a fantastic camera and Nikon make brilliant glass. So I can see why you want to be able to use your glass. Heres what I would suggest: If you are really budget conscious and mainly doing narrative work, then the 2.5k has a better picture and more DR than the Production 4k BMD cinema camera does. I have both so I can attest to that. Really the big difference is sensor size and the sensor read out speeds. As the Production 4k model has a global shutter. That is the big selling point of that cinema camera. If you are looking to do slow motion, need 4k - well that rules out both the Blackmagic design cinema camera 2.5k and Production 4k. And places the Blackmagic design pocket cinema 4k as the camera you should buy. The pocket 4k has better slowmotion image quality than the pocket 6k, it ends up slightly sharper as the sensor crops less, which also results in less noise in the image pipeline. But if you can stretch your budget the camera I would absolutely recommend if the blackmagic design pocket 6k Pro. This is by far the best budget camera on the cinema camera market. There are too many reasons to list here. Have you watched this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIbLqGSbnputidU Plus you could use this www.kentfaith.co.uk/KF06.131_nikon-g-lenses-to-canon-eos-mount-camera-adapter to utilise your Nikon lenses. I would save my pennies until I could afford the pocket 6k Pro. It is a far superior camera to the 2.5k, 4k, pocket 4k and 6k cinema cameras. hope this all helps.
@jesusmmfilm2 жыл бұрын
@@cinechimp And if I want to buy the 6k pro, the adapter you gave me can be adapted to this camera with a 35-50mm Nikon D2300 lens. Or I choose the BMCC 2.5k to make short films. I have doubts since I am looking for a camera with that cinematographic quality.
@cinechimp2 жыл бұрын
The camera doesnt make the cinematic quality, It's what you do with it that does. Don't underestimate your own value as a creator. Go with where you are at in your career. If your making enough money to by a newer better camera, that would be the smart choice. These older cameras, while fun - because in some cases they are better - its a tough sell to get them rented on anyting. Unless a project calls form one stylistically. The 6k Pro is a better all round buy.

True this camera has average rolling shutter performance, but it has a super organic looking image which IMO is more filmic than the BMDP4K. The pocket 4k is a far superior camera in many other ways though. I own and use both and sometimes its a hard choice of which one to use and other times - its straight forward.
