The other advantage to the Pro is that you don't have to worry about whether you have a computer that can deal with the work of encoding. A low-power computer could control the ATEM Mini Pro and the hardware would take care of the streaming.

Great video Lon, love them both, for now because of my budget and present setup which is based around a web presenter the output of which I record into an Atomos Ninja 2 (love me some Prores) my upgrade path is the non pro version, I will get my Multiview by using splitters on the inputs and a low cost hardware multi-viewer and streaming via an HP G series mini desktop running Vmix bolted to the back of a monitor, my own version of an OB truck in a Gator case 😎

A couple of things that maybe you can address in a future followup video on the ATEM mini pro. - Sound. The only way you can monitor sound is through an external monitor that has sound. - Heat. The thing gets hot, which was a concern to me so I added an external cooler. I attached an Opolar cooling vacuum on the left side of the mini pro. - External recording. You mentioned that you were recording to a T7. I have been using a T5 ssd with no problems but when I use a T7 ssd the mini pro stops at about 12 minutes. The ssd is formatted for exfat so I don't know what the problem is. For now I will stick with the T5 until I figure out what is going on when I use the T7. Please see if you have the same problem. Other than that the mini pro is great. Thanks for the outstanding content on your channel.

I bought the T7 and it would freeze just trying to watch a video clip or trying to edit videos from it directly. Look at reviews, you will see others mention this. I think the Samsung T7 is your problem. I sadly returned it, and it was the first thing I ever return to B&H.

Is it possible to see multiview on a separate monitor as well as have the mini pro connected to MacBook Pro and also record. I am not live streaming, but trying to simply record several cameras
@randomgeocacher4 жыл бұрын
No; see forums thread “Webcam out + Record + Stream with the ATEM Mini Pro at the s”. Webcam is USB slave device. Recording to disk is USB host. A USB device cannot act as both host and slave, there is only one host on USB. So due to how USB is designed, you would need two USB different ports to be both webcam and host to the SSDs. Not sure if what can be done over the Ethernet interface though, or the camera control hardware panel, I’m curious.

Thanks for this great review. As another reviewer stated. The video output from the USB has a lot more contrast. Is Blackmagic fixing this issue? I'm tempted to return mine just because of that. Lack of another HDMI just makes this device fall short.

Short question. I own a Macbook Pro from 2018. I last connected my DSLR via USB and integrated it into OBS using a software solution. A USB mic is also connected to the Macbook Pro. When streaming, the Macbook Pro box has already reached its limits and the CPU load ensures that you can actually no longer use the computer to work in a program and stream a video tutorial, for example. The ATEM Mini Pro with built-in encoder could solve this problem for me. In any case, I understand it that way, when I connect all the hardware mentioned to the ATEM Mini Pro and also connect my Macbook Pro to the ATEM via HDMI, that I can stream directly from the ATEM Mini Pro and the entire CPU performance would no longer come to fruition yes the ATEM is working. How does it all work when I connect all my hardware to the ATEM Mini Pro and connect it to my Macbook Pro via USB-C and then stream from my Macbook Pro via OBS (source is then ATEM video and audio). Is the CPU utilization of my Macbook Pro even smaller than when I use the first scenario without ATEM? Have you been able to gain experience on this?

Thanks for the video. Can this be used for a live production (that isn't live streaming), but rather outputting to a Projector system via the HDMI Output? In other words, could you have the HDMI Program Out going to a projector, and then connect a laptop to the ATEM Mini Pro to view the "Multi View" screen (on the laptop) to see all of your camera views? Thanks.

Man, I feel like I understand everything about it now. Great presentation! Two questions: 1. Instead of using a screen recording program, can I use an available HDMI Out from my video card to one of the inputs of the ATEM Mini Pro? 2. If so, how would I record the audio from my screen if I'm using a dedicated audio interface? Thanks!

Yes you can do that and also your computer should allow you to route the audio through the HDMI too.

It will still behave as a 4 input switcher. I’ve been considering getting the Pro ISO and the standard, and put cameras on 1-3 of the ISO and let 4 be the standard showing computers/screens. Will virtually never need to record a screen I did not bother to show.

No. You would need to provide an uplink through the Ethernet jack. There are hardware boxes for 4G/WiFi connectivity you can get, but their ability to get through shady hotel logon screens may be so so.

Like Lon said in the video, if you do not mind having a PC connected then you can go for the mini without 'pro' and let your computer with OBS do all the hard work. For me with not a high end computer, the pro can let me do 1080p live althoug my pc with OBS can only manage to keep up with 720P broadcast encoding

Damn I'm listing to you talk but I don't have a clue what you're talking about. I'm trying to learn enough to buy the right switcher but, even though this is an entry level product, you're talking like I should know all about it. Please consider that people shopping for a switcher to do streaming may well be buying their first switcher ever - like me who's only used OBS & found it too quirky at best & downright unstable at worst. But when you put out video's about this stuff maybe consider using fewer pronouns & maybe adjust your presentations to include those needing help to figure out what to buy - knowing they may not have even used a switcher before.
