Blackmagic Design Ursa Mini Pro for Studios.

The "3 in 1" camera, Blackmagic Design's Ursa Mini Pro was released recently and we've been putting it through its paces to find out if its any good and what can it do for you?
In this video i'm looking at the Ursa as a studio camera in a broadcast environment. There are pretty high expectations from any camera to be accepted into a Television studio. Can the Ursa mini Pro handle the heat?

Mat, just a couple of clarifications, all models of URSA mini can output 1080i, not just the pro. Also, of you're running an ATEM switcher you can set the UM to take time code from the SDI input, that makes the ATEM the TC generator, unless you're feeding TC to that (which is what we do using a BMD sync generator, which also syncs hyperdecks, videohub, etc) We run 2 UM4.6Ks, 2 Micro Studio Cameras and an ATEM 1m/e 4k, along with lots of other kit. For best results, run the camera in "film" mode and use the ATEM camera control to add contrast and saturation. Keep up the good work.

Do you think this could be used in an environment such as a 10 cameras sport production on the field? We currently use GrassValley LDK8000, not happy with those and we were also thinking about upgrading to 4K our entire system. Great video, by the way, found almost everything I was curious about!

evvivaDio the camera would be perfectly happy in that environment. Where you'd want to spend a little more time is on the lens controls. If you stayed with ef for unmanned wides etc, then you may need some control fngers or something similar. Image and image control wise the camera ticks a lot of boxes.

We have only B-4 mount lenses, which are designed for 2/3" sensors, so I was wondering whether there would be vignetting on the image or not. I was also wondering if the iris and the ND filters could be remotely controled from like a truck, where we have our mixer and our CCUs... Does the camera give power to broadcast lenses in order to zoom with the remote? Thanks a lot for your kind reply!

If you are using B4 lenses, you have to set the camera to shoot in HD mode and not 4K. I believe you can control the ND filter through an ATEM switcher and the camera does power the servo through the 12pin connector.

So you can't jam sync the timecode to the tc in port? That seems odd - to have tc in but having to leave it connected full time.
