Harris Entertainment I want to edit raw on FCPX and have the footage play unrendered on my timeline. Pretty sure that requires ProRes RAW without round tripping from another NLE

Keep in mind that ProRes raw without proper implementation will take the color science out of Blackmagic’s hands. This is why they are a little reluctant to implement it. ProRes raw uses the same ProRes compression algorithms to compress the raw sensel data from the sensor. It is up to the NLE or conversion software to handle the colors. In Resolve this would be fine since BM can control that software, but in premiere or Final cut there will have to be some implementation of BM color science to retain it correctly.

I totally get that but they are trying shove their color science down our throats. ProRes Raw is a dream for us FCPX users and for blackmagic to just disregard us because they want to force us to use their color science is a bit of a dick move.

Karl Meyer I wouldn’t say that they are disregarding anyone at this point. I am sure they are going to do their best to implement ProRes Raw. Blackmagic knows the benefits it brings to the table. If i were to guess i would say that BM is going to implement their color science into fcpx and premiere. How they do this I don’t know, but getting the proper color science into the image is an important part of what makes Blackmagic cameras so special at their price point.

No one has mentioned or asked about, but there are quite huge holes at the bottom and top for internal cooling, so how does it work? What about noise levels with fan turned on? How is the air going through? Might seem that the camera is not wheather proof, or is it? Is dust going inside the camera through the holes?

Couple things. One, it's not the same sensor because the aspect ratio is completely different from the GH5s. 2. Yes it has an autofocus, but it's just a 1 push button. No continuous, no focus tracking, no rack autofocus.

I’d be interested to know if the mini xlr can be used simultaneously with the 3.5mm mic jack, panned to different tracks. Running phantom power will further reduce battery life though.

Regarding to the spec, the sensor dimensions from it both are different in size, physically. It not exactly same size.

RE: the autofocus, it's just center focus, and non-tracking, so the GH5 wins on that side, and it's very important for mass appeal or vloggers.

I don’t mind the drawbacks b/c in the end we’re getting a low light cine-cam with great color science, great i/o, amazing world class software, and sweet codecs for $1300! Everyone that’s getting one was going to put it on a rig of some type anyway, you could get the BMPCC4k and a fully spec’d out rig for less than the price of a GH5s body. So we’re good! We may even get a nod from Netflix maybe.

I doubt BlackMagic will "want" to support ProRes RAW. Apple will not give ProRes RAW to Resolve. Since Resolve is a full blown NLE now, it' a true competitor to Final Cut Pro. BlackMagic does not want people shooting ProRes RAW and moving away from Resolve and into Final Cut. BlackMagic wants every shooter to stay in Resolve with that camera. I DO see another "ProRes RAW" competitor on the horizon. It's about time we got away from Cinema DNG and ProRes RAW should have some kind of open source "clone" down the road.

I assumed the stills would be 8MP. 4K is 8mp and I thought that was the max resolution on this sensor. But that would also mean it isn't the exact same sensor as the gh5s. So many questions... Can't wait till reviewers get their hands on it!

Yeah honestly I do not think it is the exact same sensor. I do think it performs similarly. And a blackmagic camera that is good in low-light would be awesome. That used to be a trade-off with Blackmagic

I'll be making videos about this. I've herd nothing but good things about the lens' that Sigma made for micro four thirds. I can also personally vouch for the Panasonic 25mm f1.7 which is currently the best cheapest MFT lens you can buy.

This is not really a question that can be answered properly. You will need to provide specifics on what you are shooting... too many variables and there are just too many choices. There are many great m43 lenses out there. A good little "starter" native kit would likely be something like the Panasonic 12-35 f2.8 and Oly 45 f1.8. The zoom is a workhorse for m43 videography and will provide OIS for when you need it and the oly is an inexpensive but excellent performer wide open for closer headshots. This will keep your kit small and light and not break the bank, if that's important. That Panasonic 25 f1.7 is also a really great underrated and underpriced lens as well. WOrth snatching up just because its so cheap and sharp at f1.7. But, it all depends on what you are doing honestly and there are so many choices out there for m43. This is truly what I love about m43 mount... almost endless lens/body combinations. Personally, I love shooting with speedboosters (only Metabones for me, I tried the knockoffs) and Canon FD mount glass. Sharp, cheap, fast, smooth manual focus with tick marks, and warm skin tones (on the Canon branded ones I mean).

Really wish it had wifi for external monitors.... andriod... ipad...etc. i think all camera makers should have that feature like panasonic...in every camera that comes out now it's 2018...mandatory ...i really like using bigger screens to see what im filming.... even if i dont get ( ibis ) in the camera
