Blackmagic Production Camera 4K IN 2023! Better than Sony FX6?

Thank you for this video. I bought this back in 2016 and I still use it. In 2021 when I shot my 2nd feature, my friends said " I love your new camera!" - it was the same one. I feel if you throw enough light at it you'll get a superior image.

I think the issue with it is it being a pain in the ass to use. I had one for a short time before just biting the bullet getting the pocket 4k for $200 more. The ef mount on it was pretty awesome coming from a Cannon shooter and I liked the internal SSDs. The internal battery was pretty bad ( got it used and maybe lasted 10 minutes) the fan was so loud and the weight was a lot even without a rig. It can be a great value camera, you just kinda have to deal with a lot of those things.

It’s affordable but has so much you have to compromise on, plus it’s more suitable for studio type of setup , how is a the Pocket 4K working for you?

@@Kashilembo Pretty great! I got an amazing deal on it with a full rig, vmount, Cine lens and SSDs included so it made the decision a lot easier haha.

Great video! I have this camera. I was very disappointed at the beginning, mainly because of the fpn issue and useless 800 ISO, but with time, patience and practice, I´ve been able to make it look good enough to dont hate it anumore. Would I recomind it? short answer... No... But I can say it can help you to learn a lot about cinematography and become better! :D

@@Kashilembo I got it from a thrift shop, in a nice pelican case, the only things I got with it were the power supply, hood cover for screen. I also got x3 batteries BP- U60, with an ANSSO li ion battery charger that can be attached to the top and then plugs into power port. Plus tax close to 570. Sadly I've had a bad turn of events, I tried to update it and it BRICKED, now I have to call BM for help. I've tried looking on the Web for any type of button reset, no such luck. But I'm still hopeful.

I'm getting vertical banding on my production 4k pl. Only seems to go away with lots of light. Were you having this issue too?

Yes I did stop using mind due to having the same issue, did you Try to upload it to the latest firmware version? It used to help mine.

It was quite amazing and in some ways still is, but it was missing dynamic range in a big way. So even if you were not using slow mo it did tend to clip in the highlights even in faces and otherwice all over the place. Other than that it was quite amazing! The detail was amazing. So yeah it does not beat the FX6 or even any mirrorless full frame camera of this era. Most apc/super-35 also beats it handily. At the time though it was quite something for a while.

I think the ku should research the ronin MX or Z crane and see if they would fit . For the battery you can use any mini V mount battery of your choice.

Been using the Red Helium 8k mate ,

This camera has the best image quality of all consumer oriented cameras but only in the 8 stops dymamic range it got. 😂🎉

I dont like this camera because its not cinematic looking like BMPCC OG and dont have posabilty to change battery and its bulky not good for traveling. For my open gate is more important than bit debth and resolution. And crop factor its odd 1.7 so its not true S35 more closer to M4/3 sensor. But I was owned this camera six years ago after two moths I sellit away. Color sience is trongest thing that I like most of Black Magic Cameras its like baby Arri.

Hey friend remember this camera is very old . And technology has changed a lot . But it’s still looking very sold and organic in my opinion. I don’t know how you define Vimeo but every camera given good light and amazing production quality can look cinematic. There are way more options to choose from . How do would the Blackmagic Pyxis 6K work for you since you like Open gate ?

@@Kashilembo I was owned BMPCC and Production 4k so have some experience have image looks straight out of camera and color graidet footage from BMCC 2.5k all these cameras has own flavor. 6k is too expensive to me. My current camera is GH5 it have 6k open gate and I really liked it's more details and field of wiew and GH4 has for 300 eu price tag also have open gate. But now I have to down shit in my video gear because economic crisis. I now that baseckly you can make cinematic footage even from smartphone but it's will footage from smartphone not from proper camera.

Ok try explains my position if I was shooting film 70-90s style look I was choosing BMPCC if I was need to shoot commercial I was definitely on Production 4k camera side because it's have already DNA to commercial looking imagine for modern film production if no high frame rate need of course Production 4k will my choice.

You pretty much have to build up the Blackmagic camera out of box to make it functional in the field. I'll go with the Sony.
