Isn't the 6K the updated version? They just released a new 6K between the pro and normal one (G2) I'd love to see a Blackmagic point and shoot style like the original with a inbuilt lense version and a lens mount version. Good budget option or a good option for video and stills

@@mitchhifi9192 that's correct. But the pro is also already two years old if I am not mistaken. It has a super 35 sensor opposed to a micro 43 sensor on the bmpcc4k. And I'd personally would love to see a bmpcc4k pro with a m43 sensor maybe also with a new body

Two major things I don't like. 1) can't change settings while the camera is on your shoulder 2) it's impossible to balance with broadcast lenses. Oh, and third minor complaint is that you can feed timecode and genlock simultaneously (unless you buy an ATEM), unlike any other "broadcast" camera. Good value for money tho, compare to the cheapest alternative from Sony that is PXW-Z450 for 23000€. Obviously a PXW has much more "value" in some ways, although you can't swap the mount.
@jakehayden998

Totally fair. I guess they are just two different kinds of systems with the Blackmagic being kind of a "hybrid" cinema and broadcast camera. The Sony is for sure being a well dedicated broadcast system. I do like the idea of saving $20k+ though 👍

Hey thanks so much for that. After an horrendously nerdy start this video fast became one of the best reviews of this camera. Thanks for that. I know it’s great to show you have a sense of humour but maybe you don’t need the giant headphones and deadcat. The detail in the video was greatas was your undoubted enthusiasm for the camera. Thx. So much makes sense but so much left unsaid. The simplicity of an all in one camera sounds great as opposed to frankenrigging a dslr or fx3 but in practice the screen isn’t good enough without an evf. And these days a fixed screen and a camera that big?? Just blackmagic keeping their production costs low? On shoulder great but gimbal use is out unless it’s a pro set up. ImAge is identical to bmpcc6k pro and although that is a wholly unprofessional design it’s hard to see justifying the extra spend if you like bm raw and colour. Though I take the idea of looking pro so often for client work looking pro is having lighting, production assistants running around and video village set up. Not sure it’s Netflix approved and maybe it’s a Goldilocks camera between the 4.6k bmpp and the 12k but it’s not cheap by time an evf is factored in. Everything shoots amazing images these days and the ir issues with bm are still an issue when it’s compared to Sony canon and red. The 6k image is amazingly detailed but there is something annoyingly filmic about the image (maybe it’s those blacks) that seems to lock it into a little too filmic a look. The modern image is getting sharper and there is something insanely present about hyper detailed cameras these days that don’t try to be like film but look modern. And digital even. So much tv is on Sony and canon have always nailed docs just as Red have nailed colour, cinema rigs and pro workflows. I miss having a bm camera and the 6k image still is more detailed than fx6 and c70 out of the box but now c70 has raw as does the fx6 the images have a fidelity that is hard to beat. Throw in a Red Komodo that is an modular dream and built to be used as a film camera with menus and tools you’d expect at a pro level and you have a lot of cameras at that price point look better in spec. Autofocus and rf mount aren’t essential but they really help at times. So many choices but great to see you are so enthusiastically happy with yours. Thanks so much.

I was really interested in the G2 4.6k but ended up getting an fx6 since I have been using Sony for the past 3 years. I do love the look the BM senor produces. Very organic and filmic. I do have to say the fx6 is very light which is good and bad cause having to add weight. I do love the side grip handle that comes with it and its very nice for run and gun situations. I love the xlrs are on the body of the G2, Sony putting it on the handle!??! I also use premiere pro, and not resolve so that's just another reason I have never just went for trying BM. I still would like to just mess around with one eventually. Just hold one lol. Awesome review! Keep creating!

The URSA G2 4.6k is a great movie camera that offers excellent image quality and color, but it requires a team of people to help the photographer capture the footage, and it is not recommended for individual users. But if you have a mature team, this machine can meet almost all your graphics needs.

a slightly random question here what's your thoughts on the blackmagic broadcast ursa G2 v Canon XF605 im on a budget but need some advice with what camera to buy for filming or are they just worlds apart?
@jakehayden998
@jakehayden998 Жыл бұрын
I've never shot with the XF605, so I don't really have any advice to give that is rooted in experience. I do know that the XF605 has a 1 inch sensor and the URSA Broadcast G2 has a Super 35 sensor, which is a huge difference. It would be hard to produce a shallow depth of field with the XF605, but it might be easier for high intensity field broadcast work when you don't want to worry about focus. What kind of projects do you work on?

Really great question. URSA Mini Pro G2 Pros - better dynamic range, better rolling shutter performance, more framerate options Cons - worse low light performance Broadcast G2 Pros - 6k (could be a pro or a con), really nice low light sensitivity, much cheaper Cons - Worse rolling shutter, less dynamic range Overall the Broadcast G2 might be better if you are constantly shooting in unpredictable situations, but the URSA Mini Pro G2 gives a higher quality image as long as you have enough light

Loved the review, I have a couple of questions as an absolute beginner film maker, firstly what's the autofocus like on this camera? Secondly, would you recommend this camera for shooting super low budget feature films?
@jakehayden998
@jakehayden998 Жыл бұрын
The autofocus on the Broadcast G2 is essentially non-existent. There is a single shot autofocus, which is pretty primitive and not useable for video by any means. This is in character for cinema cameras however, most bodies that are meant for high end filmmaking don't have any kind of autofocus. What camera would I recommend for low budget filmmaking? Excellent question. It depends on how low budget it is, and also what your needs are. I have a video coming out about the Pocket Cinema 4k pretty soon, which I think is one of the best options for low budget cinema. I hope to make a ton of videos this year covering cameras of every price bracket, so stay tuned! Good luck on your filmmaking journey.

I don't have the camera in front of me anymore so I can't verify with 100% confidence but - If you are recording in Blackmagic RAW then there will be no crop as long as you record in 6k. Been debating getting this or the 4.6K G2. Mostly want to use it for cinema productions. Is the 4K cropped on the Broadcast G2 with the EF mount? I have seen the rolling shutter is better on the 4.6K, but it doesn't seem horrendous on the Broadcast G2.
@jakehayden998
@jakehayden998 Жыл бұрын
If you record in BRAW and record in 4k it will be cropped unfortunately. I usually am recording BRAW at 6k but at a higher compression (like 12:1) to avoid massive file sizes. You can also record 4k in ProRes with no crop as another option. Rolling shutter is for sure better on the 4.6k G2, but the Broadcast G2 is much cheaper and better in low light. I guess it depends on what you will be shooting as far as which camera would be a better purchase.
@AndrewZeletrainStudios
@AndrewZeletrainStudios Жыл бұрын
@@jakehayden998 After more research and coming back to your video several times, I will be going with Broadcast G2! I saw some comparisons of the rolling shutter between the Pocket 6k and the G2 and it is slightly better if not comparable to the pocket 4k where it wont be as much as an issue as I initially thought (I'm a long time Pocket 4K user). Shooting in the 5K mode might help too, but still keeping in mind I might have to fix it in post. I did, however hear after the gyro stabilization update that it helps reduce the rolling shutter effect, but I will need to test this. In the end, it's a great price for a great camera for my needs. The 12k might be one I get down the line, but the Broadcast G2 is great for my need for events, documentary, indie film productions and shooting vfx plates.

hi i dont have experience with BM but i noticed in all the reviews that the image is hazy, like there is a very thin layer of fog. i dont know, earlier i thought its color correction by individual reviewers but almost all bmp4k bmp6k and now this i see the same thing. or maybe it is low on contrast? i mean sometimes i think the image is log without any lut applied. can you do some color correction experiments on some of ur footage and do side by side with contrast and saturation but over done and normal and under done i think it already is. thanks
@jakehayden998
@jakehayden998 Жыл бұрын
I think it is just the way people grade their footage. I tend to gravitate towards a lower contrast look personally, and this is probably responsible for the kind of "foggy" look. A lot of filmmakers grade footage to have a slightly lower contrast look. If you like a more punchy and contrasty look, the footage out of the Broadcast G2 looks really really great. The 6k resolution really punches hard when you have deep blacks and bright highlights. Definitely stay tuned, there's more content on the way, especially regarding filmmaking and color work

When shooting raw, that kamera does NOT have two basik isos, but two basik iso areas: 100-1000 and 1250-dont remember the top value…

The two ranges are 100 - 1000, and 1250 - 25,600. If you are shooting in RAW you do have the flexibility of changing the ISOs in post, but you do have to choose which ISO range you want. If you record at 400 ISO you won't be able to change it to 3200 ISO in post for example. There are two ISO ranges. At the heart of those ranges are the preferred ISOs the sensor gives the most balanced dynamic range upwards and downwards, and those are ISOs are 400 and 3200. You are right, there are two ISO ranges in RAW, but those ranges still use the same natives ISOs as their fulcrum.
