Hey Blackie. Great video as always. Very true about everyone being different. Folks can be a great resource also. When I was growing up in the south we called them neighbors. I think that's a comforting feeling to know you don't have to be a woodsman that's best at everything as long as you're willing to work hard to contribute when situations are challenging.

Excellent list of items. I'm always looking for items that are cheap, light and multi use. Tin foil is definitely going in my bag. With the exception of a magnifying glass, fire making tools (lighter, matches, ferro rod, flint and steel) only have one use. Is there anything else in your bag that has only one use? I tend to think of one use items as luxuries ie. a spork, (I have and use the same one). I'd like to hear some of the excerpts from those note books, hint hint. I'm sure there are some great videos to be made from them. Sounds like a weekly segment, "Tales from Blackie's Journals."

Good video and useful items. For me #1 a loud whistle on your person 24/7. #2 some sort of compass even just a button compass.

tin foils a great idea and has multiple uses , but I would ditch the one use only spork ( unless you also use it as a back scratcher) and carry a knife instead, you can make chopsticks or a small spatula to eat with in seconds and if you keep the spatula in an inside pocket then you have dry wood to make a feather stick in an emergency.

I've enjoyed your channel for a few years now. But I've really started appreciating the excellent content you put out. It's practical, simple, and isnt something you've copied from someone else - it comes from years of experience. The foil tip is a prime example as are the other items you mention. Thanks for all the information you pass on.

5 items just make no sense, it is not enough. I would never want to go out without sleeping bag/blanket and tarp/poncho and at least a basic insulation against the ground. (I don't live in the south, it's cold and nasty here 9 months of the year) Such things are as hard to make in nature as a knife and cordage. The 10 Cs and some luxury items are my minimum. Let's call it "cc's 16 Cs" :- ) So, if I should suggest 5 items to a beginner, I would tell him forget about it xD 5 times. Your idea to bring Aluminium foil is a very good tipp. If you can carry something that is small, lightweight and has a multitude of uses - bring it.

You know Blackie you owe me a challenge from a couple years ago. You got 100 feet of paracord and an injured companion that you must move 1/2 mile. Other than your Kukri no other tools or gear. Everything lost when you dumped the canoe in the Rapids and you buddy is hurt bad. Broken arm, and leg. Ruff tumble through the rapids for that boy. You have nothing but scrapes. Still think you can get it done?

fireman's lift ,no tools needed, I once carried a 14 stone man who was a simulated casualty across rough ground ( you couldn't use trails) for 1 and a half miles to an extraction point. as long as your relatively fit and the casualty isn't 30 stone then it's doable. of course I know the scenario is hypothetical but why move an injured man at all, make him comfortable and you run the half mile to get help 👍
