I bought one yesterday in a Guatemalan knife shop called Globe Works for under $35.00. I gave it a try chopping some light wood and it worked better after some sharpening with a wetstone. After that the sharpness became frightening, I could peel a tomato skin almost without any pressure! It has a very good quality sheath.

i'd like to commend you on your channel. unlike the other outdoor gear review channels i have watched, yours is the most informative and well presented. you speak properly and seem more interested in how the tools work rather than how you look using them. well done

For the price this is a great deal. The scandi grind is easy to sharpen, the sheath is great. I have both the Condor and mini Condor, two great blades for the money.

I own (2) Condor Bushlore knives; the full size and the mini. I wear the mini daily and usually take the the full size along on any outdoor outing. I've done everything with these two knives from dressing deer to opening letters. They feel great and function perfect. Easy sharp. Well balanced. Quality sheaths. Affordable. Get one or two, you won't regret.

I have a couple of Condor knives; to me, they are amazing tools. The steel is good for bushcraft and chopping capabilities. Like you said before Joe flowers does a great job on his designs.

Don't let the sharpness fool you guys, you can get this thing razor sharp very easily because of the scandi grind. And It holds it for a decent amount of time too.

Spencer Jordan In my experience, any grind type is easy to get razor sharp (with exception to a convex). I would say steel type and heat treat are larger factors into sharping a knife. Thanks for watching. -Krik

Just got this knife the other day. impressive right out of the box quality. Mine was kinda sharp more so toward the tip and about 20 seconds on a strop with green compound and it slid hair cleanly off my arm. love it. can't wait to exercise it!

Good video, I also like the look and feel of the Bushlore. I have bought 3 different Condor blades in the past year and they are great bang for your buck, but the F&F is totally hit & miss. I bought a mini Bushlore that was perfect, but then a Rodan that had a horribly lop sided grind angle that took hours on a wet stone and belt sand to even out. Again the value is there, you just may have to work with the blade out of the box to get it right.

I picked up one of these for a buddy when I ordered their Hudson's Bay Camp knife. It took some work to get the blades on both of them good and sharp, but once I did, they were awesome! Really good value. My buddy speaks highly of his Bushlore.

I've had one of these knives for about a year now and I have to agree about out of the box sharpness. It was about as sharp as a hammer when I first got it. But a little time using a slack belt to put a convex micro bevel on it and it's hair whittling sharp now. I like to put the convex edge on it to make it considerably stronger. Scandi's tend to be a bit fragile for my tastes.
@jamesaritchie2
@jamesaritchie2 8 жыл бұрын
+AZ Patriot Unless you got the one in a million mistake, it was as sharp pout of the box as any knife should be. It's a serious mistake making any knife hair whittling harp, if you actually intend on using the knife as a work horse. It's doubly bad making 1075 steel that sharp. It's really cool to own a knife that sharp, and marketers, plus a lot of knife makers who want to draw in more buyers, always tout how sharp their knives are right out of the box, but all that means is that you'll have to sharpen the knife every five minutes when actually using it. The only reason to have a razor sharp knife is if you plan on using it for a razor. For a working knife, the bevel should be about twenty-four degrees per side. You will not shave with such a bevel, but you will be able to cut anything and everything you need to cut, and be able to keep cutting for a long time. When it does start to get dull, four or five strokes with a honing steel will bring it right back to life.

Nice video review. I look at Condor's knife offerings every so often to see what new designs they have come up with. Though I don't currently have any of their knives, I do own several Condor machetes, some functioning better than others for my purposes. I had one machete break within a half hour of using it, emailed customer service with a description and pictures, and received a new machete two weeks later. Of the Condor machetes I own, the Tapanga works the best. Very sharp and light weight, I can clear an overgrown path of briars and brush quickly without getting exhausted.

People always say things like "a nice thick welt" or "heavy duty welt", usually just to indicate that it has a welt at all and is not just two flaps of leather slapped together. But I can tell you as a leather worker myself, the welt is almost always just the same guage (thickness) of leather as the rest of the sheath. So you'd just say the sheath is made of thick leather and has a welt, rather than comment on the thickness of the welt itself. Nitpicky, but lots of people say this for some reason and it doesn't make sense.

I own this knife too, and use it a lot. I got the micarta handle version which arrived reasonably sharp but the edge didn't last that long. the scandi grind on mine was nearly perfect, some say theirs wasn't but I'm really impressed with the straight grind I got. it did however have a few grind marks on the edge. I spent 5 minuets on a 1200 grit waterstone followed by a 600 grit and the edge was perfect, razor sharp and very clean looking. the micarta handle I used super fine wet and dry to get smooth as it felt rough in my hand. I really can recommend this knife as a great first time purchase. I don't need a more expensive version as mine was so good out of the factory. I also own a bear grylls ultimate pro which im very fond of and is much better than the original ultimate knife

Hi Guys, funnily enough, I bought a Bushlore last week. With the intention of it being a 'project' blade, as I'd heard it can come a little rough around the edges fit&finish wise!? So thought adding my own enhancements to the knife would be fun. For only £30 UK no great loss if I messed it up!? Must say I was pleasantly surprised how good the knife is for the money! Apart from knocking off a micro 'pip' bur on the tip, a rub of tung oil and a lick on the leather, it's awesome! ATB, Dazza.

I have this knife, its a great knife if used properly. Don't store knives in these types of sheaths, not only because of moisture retention, but the leather will stretch over time and will nolonger hold the knife securely. Great opening scene too! Ted

Keep it oiled or force a patina on it as soon as you can, mine rusted in less than one day on a fishing trip, now my knife was oiled and in it's sheath, still it rusted. I had to clean it up and then I forced a patina on it using vinegar, since I done that I have not had any other issues.

Great review! This looks like a nice knife. I maybe will purchase it someday. That said, I'll stick with my Mora Robust($13), and my attached Mora Companion($11-$13) which are razor sharp, easy to sharpen, and can take any abuse I have thrown at them for $24-$26 for both combined. I would like to have this knife someday, however. Thank you for another excellent review!

The Condor Bushlore is a really affordable bushcrafting knife. It almost costs the same as a Mora, only more steel! . I enjoy good steel although1075 is not the typical 'popular' steel. That said, because the Bushlore is inexpensive, I trash it a lot and it takes a beating well. Just have to sharpen more often, but sharpening knives is therapeutic! P/S: I love your audio and lightening enhancement. Good job, guys!

@BlackOwlOutdoors
@BlackOwlOutdoors 9 жыл бұрын
Victor Calderon That's a really difficult question (and maybe not realistic). Most places in the world, you can't carry a large knife in public. So you're left with only being able to carry a small knife, probably less than a 3 inch blade (whatever is legal). There are small fixed blades out there - ESEE Izula, Kabar D'Eskabar, LT Wright Patriot, Bark River has a few. Check em out and let me know what you think. -Krik

Nice knife style for bushcraft, in my opinion 1075 is a good steel for chopping, but why doesn't Connor use a higher Carbon steel for this knife, so it has better edge retention, even with my Connor Golok, the edge doesn't chip, but roll's, which is tolerable, but for a lot of knife work, edge retention would be better in a 1095 CroVan instead of a 1075, good video though, Thanx.
