Today, I'm reacting to another South-Korean group but it's an all female group this time, called "BLACKPINK". Seeing the views on their videos, they apparently are immensely popular, though we never heard or saw anything from them before.
Today I'm reacting to the video clip of their song "PINK VENOM",
I was definitely surprised!

Hi guys, or should I say, BLINKS?😉 (I read that's the name of Blackpink's fanbase? Correct me if I'm wrong🙂) First of all, thx to all of your comments, I appreciate all of your support! Happy to see most of you enjoyed and appreciated our reaction! I saw some comments in which you guys gave me the good advice to not compare Blackpink to BTS (or comparing any K-Pop groups in general), some even going as far as calling it racist. I first want to make myself clear by saying, in no way did I have any bad intension by doing this, rather, the only reason I brought up BTS is because of my limited knowledge and exposure on K-Pop, which is also why BTS was basically my only reference in this genre, up till now that is, of course. You guys explained to me that this format, combination of singers/rappers/dancers/... in group is something typical in K-Pop, not only for BTS. Glad I know that now. Also glad I got to know Blackpink now and I promise more reactions to them in future videos and perhaps some more artists/groups/bands/musicians on your recommendations! Note:- BTS and Blackpink have the biggest fanbase and it's growing everyday even more , and they hate each other (not everyone) , and those who calling it "racist" must be the Toxic fans , I'm a fan of both and people like me always advise the reacters not to compare from the beginning only ,specially BTS and Blackpink , and the reasons are "Toxic fans" , they don't care if you are new to K-pop or not , they might go far and harm your channel for their satisfaction , I have seen some KZbin channel getting shut because of those toxic fans . But there is another thing to say, when a person first hears BLACKPINK they are kind of directed to think that their sound and style is that, but then if they listen to their new album "BORN PINK" they realizes how difficult it is to frame them in a genre, in the new album there are 8 songs with completely different sounds, style and lyrics! hi! kpop has always been a combination of singing and dancing, kpop artists, soloists or groups, usually train for years before being able to debut, so while usually there are members that shine more in a certain thing, all of them are able of doing everything. Blackpink is currently the biggest girl group in the world, not only in kpop, and the song you reacted to and Shut Down, the other mv they put out last week, are the opening songs to their new album after two years (an incredibly long time for kpop because usually groups have to 'come back' one or two times a year to keep their momentum going and to gather attention as it is a very competitive industry with new groups coming every other month) so the lyrics aren't really anything deep but more a declaration they're coming back and a reminder to everyone of who they are and what their status is (to give you a little context, they have gotten a lot of unnecessary hate while they were on hiatus from fandoms of other groups and have had even major agencies shading them and debuting groups with the intention of surpassing them or being the new blackpink). Also an heads up, as kpop fans can be quite intense, never compare kpop artists, it never ends well. blackpink aren't a female version of bts but the best charting korean girlgroup ever AND the second biggest group in kpop after bts. I'd suggest you react to shutdown or other songs of the album if you liked this!

ADDITIONAL 'FRIENDLY' REMINDER before you going deep into the rest of their discography i'd have to remind you that every song by them usually would always have such a different vibe nor different type of production to each other, ofc there's gonna be some similarities between each albums but their music in general always been known for having no musical boundaries (especially when it comes their genre's choices), i mean eventhough most of the time their music does have that edgy hip-hop flare into it but it doesn't mean that they gonna have some rap lines for every single song, so sometimes they do have few songs that fully focusing on melodic lines instead of their normal stuff which mostly have raps and yeah after few songs that you've reacted so far i just hope that you'd willing to keep your personal expectation in such a neutral way so the "shock" value and the pureness of your "first-time impression" would always stay organic as it should be

Hey guys, LOVED your reaction, I'm glad you enjoyed BLACKPINK! I'd recommend KILL THIS LOVE next. Just a heads up as you're not very familiar with K-Pop, please 🙏 don't compare BLACKPINK with BTS or liken them to a "version" of BTS. K-POP has been around for decades and has always been a combination of singing, dancing and in more recent years, rapping. You may have thought of BTS because they have become very well known in the west due to the fact that boy groups are more popular, as their fanbase is primarily younger female teens ( like One Direction, Backstreet Boys, etc). BLACKPINK is gaining popularity in the West as well now, as they have three members who are fluent English speakers and their company is known for their urban, hiphop edge. A final comment, each K-Pop artist has it's own fanbase and are loyal to the point of toxicity to other artists. The biggest fanwar in the K-Pop industry is between ARMY ( the BTS fandom) and BLINKS (the BLACKPINK fandom) I won't go into it here but it's better to just talk about the group that you're reacting to in a reaction, I've seen more than one reaction channel have to literally shut down because of nonstop hate comments.

In order of when you hear their lines and more or less see them excluding the "BLACKPINK" chant Main means best, lead is second best just FYI it can be confusing to people who don't know all the ins and outs of the terms Jennie : main rapper lead vocal Lisa : main dancer lead rapper Rosé : main vocal lead dancer Jisoo : lead vocal visual (visual is considered the prettiest by the very strict Korean beauty standards and is important to Koreans so I mentioned it) They are the biggest girl group in the world, most streamed and everything. They've been a thing since 2016 with their debut Whistle and then Boombaya. They're under the company yg which is known for hiphop and power. So their choreo and vocals aren't too crazy because they focus on performance. They're actually going to go on tour soon. Their first BIG hit was Ddu du ddu du aka d4 or 4d where jennies rap exploded virally. They have many English songs, one called Typa girl on this album that is also very hip-hop, but they do ballads as well with Happiest girl also on this album. They've had two albums. This one called Born pink, the first one called The Album. Jennie has a solo called solo, Rosé has a solo called On the ground/Gone and Lisa has a solo called Lalisa and Money. Jisoo doesn't yet have her solo song but she is in a k-drama called snowdrop. Jennie is going to debut as an actress in the HBO show called The Idol. I will warn that the Fandom is very toxic. Especially Jennie and Lisa's fans. (I bias Jennie personally but am ot4) because of the way they were marketed they have a lot of solo stans, people fans of only one member and those fans will do anything they can to drag the others down even if they have to victimize and make their own fave seem weak or mistreated. Theu don't have writing credits on many of their songs, mostly because of the company. When they hit it big with d4 yg wanted to replicate that and so the same producer has written for them since forever. But Jennie has stated she's taken part in writing quite a few of their songs, jisoo also has credits and Rosé took heavy part in her own solo. Lisa takes a lot in stride with making sure the choreo fits the girls as well. Not sure what else to put tbh.

Most of BP's music video doesn't really follow a narrative format. I know that kind of format is usually seen through Western pop videos, so it's understandable that you are not used to this. The message of the song is mostly expressed using imagery through sets, costume, props, etc. rather than being story-based.
