As a toddler i can remember it as if it was yesterday, our very first family holiday was by steam train from Birmingham to Blackpool, and i remember my dad telling me to say thank you to the engine as he took me to have a look at it, great memories of a great holiday in Blackpool.

It is bizzare that of all the rail lines into Blackpool, they got rid of the biggest. Had I been forced to close a line it would've been Blackpool North on the chopping block

Blackpool north was the one recomended by beaching to be closed BUT Blackpool council lobbied for central to be closed as it was for them PRIME land for building on in the centre of Blackpool ! they only saw a cash cow money site and didnt care that blackpool north was way to small to realy accomadate all those holidaymakers still traveling there at the time! *Blackpool was still a holiday destination for many back then in 1963 as not many Northeners could afford holidays abroad back then still unless they had plenty of money ( i know my gran and grandad and later on my mum and dad were in that catagory THEY still went to Blackpool every year in the 70s and 80s as a kid THAT WAS MY YEARLY HOLIDAY! They didnt go abroad till the late 80s early 90s! ! ) PLUS blackpool council never realy built the site but turned the WHOLE SITE INTO A CAR PARK as well as all the full lengh of the aproaches from Blackpool south ( more revune in ther pockets) with ebven more car parks ......IN FACT on google maps you can follow were the line split off to go to central , part of it is now the m55 and the realy narrow bridge aproach you follow into blackpool and those car parks from the m55 is the original high level bridge that carried the line in!

My home town and yes Blackpool Central looked like a great Station compared to what we have now at Blackpool North.

The Central Picture Theatre is really all that remains of the old central station area. Opened in 1913 and closed as a cinema in the 70s. I think it’s been used as a nightclub occasionally since then. Thankfully it’s a grade 2 listed building, so they’re apparently going to save at least the facade.

Blackpool Central wasn’t a Beeching closure, even if there is such a thing, he didn’t close anything. He recommended that Central be retained and North be closed, together with the line to Fleetwood. However, the council wanted theCentral site for a car park and part of the trackbed heading to it for a road, so North remained open instead. Actually, part of North remained open with the part that is there today having been just the excursion platforms; the main part of the station has gone. Until recently there were eight platforms, but this was reduced to six during the closure for electrification a few years ago.

sad times and for the people seeing it being demolished another heritage station gone to many stations have closed if it wasn't for the beeching cuts who knows what it would be like now we have enough car parks

Im getting sick of these videos where the VO, captions and video run out of synch. Such great content, terribly edited.
