Howard seems like a 100% no bravado type person with a good knowledge on Blackpool as a whole, the council could benefit greatly from his calm collective approach.

I remember it when it was Woolies and I liked going in there when it was the Christmas 🎄 shop too! Such a shame the building was left to rack and ruin. Let's hope this is the start of regenerating the area back to it's former glory....if that's possible Stephen.x

Over the years I've written a fair amount of SEO content for companies that supply those ground protection mats for under the vehicles and to absorb the impact of falling masonry, always get a bit of a buzz from seeing them used during demolition works 😅 Amazing how just a fairly thin bit of wood can protect the road or pavement against getting gouged.

Fantastic Stephen, I love seeing demolition, always very exciting, but I sometimes feel sad when its an old building as it's like a piece of history disappearing and usually to be replaced with some flimsy modern monstrosity. Also miss Woolies, I used to love going to woolies as a kid, loved the pick and mix sweets, and buying records. I haven't seen any demolition for years now, used to see it all the time in London but since living out in the country just something I don't see anymore. Cheers for taking the time to film it.

Thank you Steve for another great video. Don't know why I haven't ventured down Bond Street but after seeing your recient videos I must go down there, especially after seeing an antique shop in this video. Like I said in the previous video little car parks are better to have than empty plots of land or derelict buildings and I don't drive. A little car park came in very handy when friends were visiting for the Lightpool festival last year. Xxx

It's a strange build for the time it seems to have a girder skeleton frame. The bricks are just infill. The roof as I remember was single sheet asbestos panels. There certainly doesn't appear to be much concession to insulation. There was an extensive basement as well There was a Walco in Blackpool another branch of Woolies.

There used to be 3 cinemas down South Shore. The Palladium next to the Royal Oak, the Waterloo further down, where they had an organist playing before the film started, and the Rendezvous going down Bond Street on the right hand side. Great for kids matinees showing cartoons, the Three Stooges, Batman, and the usual cowboy film.

I was born and brought up for the first 4 years of my life just 300 yds from here. I remember happy times shopping with my meagre pennies in Woolies in the late 50s. Then the area was buzzing. This whole area needs knocking down in my view. Thoughtful redevelopment please!

I am worried about Notarianni's building ending up getting damaged, and no doubt their owners and staff are afraid to. They are certainly a touch too-close for comfort. Especially when they start demolishing the East side of Hartes, where it all could end up going horribly wrong like a sudden cascading domino-effect of the roof and a massive wall of bricks crashing upon Notarianni's - Yikes !! 😵

It's a shame such building have to go but things move on. We are from North Lincolnshire and always visited the shop when we were in Blackpool, my wife liked the Christmas stocks, We look forward to seeing the replacement when we visit next that is if the council have got there finger out and given planning permission. We passed this when we were there last week and it did look a sorry state. We stayed at the Norbreck and didn't find it a bad experience like a lot of the reviews make out, we will be back again next year we hope. Keep the video's coming but stop the one with the silly haircut trying to make you look daft.
