Never folding Aces is a great topic. It is definitely hard to do at times, even when its a scary board. Even when experienced and you know better, can be hard to do. I've gotten better with it over the years tho. The worst is having pocket Aces and losing to pocket Aces tho. Had it happen twice, first time was a small limit game, so didn't lose much. Second time was much worse. Was a 1k tournament, on my birthday, and allin preflop. Had red Aces against black Aces. 2 spades on the flop, then runner runner spades. Horrible bday gift haha.

One major flaw that I see that is not talked about much is Overprotecting your hands. I see a lot of players who are so scared to lose a pot when they have a big hand that they overbet the pot and only take down a small profit. For example, a 1/2 game with 5 limps to the pot, so a $10 pot going to the flop. A player will flop the nut straight and then bet all in for $65 and everyone folds.

I think low 2 pairs are fine to play. But you gotta play them hard and fast. I generally am looking to check raise on the flop and if it goes check check them I will end up just calling it down unless of course you just run bad and all the hight cards and flush come out.

With top pairs like AA and KK I like just jamming it all in preflop especially in later positions or the blinds and if there have been limper's or raisers prior to my action. Get it all in preflop and no tough decisions post flop. Yes you might win a smaller pot but at least you won't lose a big pot when you convince yourself your top pair is still good cause we all know they are hard to fold. Preflop your a 82% favorite to win with AA yeah sometimes you will get a cooler your KK meets AA but thats poker and I can live with that as I made the right decision pre flop. This kinda helps me to avoid tilt also and second guess my preflop decisions like maybe I didn't raise enough to get heads up and your in a multi way pot and then your AA/KK is normally in trouble on the many coordinated/wet boards. If I'm in early position UTG, UTG+1 at 6 max or full table I/you need to make a strong raise 4 or 5x BB so you can get heads up and not give decent pot odds to those is late position or the blinds. This will give you a higher chance mathematically for your AA/KK standing up if you can get heads up and if everyone folds so be it you only won the blinds. Sometimes you need to assess and gauge the texture of the table and figure out what size of raise will get most players to fold then use that bet size to ideally get heads up and sometimes you will get raised then just jam it all in with AA unless you are really deep stacked so then its important to look at your opponent/s stack size. My thoughts. What you think of just getting it all in preflop?
@aheroictaxidriver31803 жыл бұрын
"This will give you a higher chance mathematically for your AA/KK standing up if you can get heads up" The math on this was done long ago: you win a higher % of pots HU, but you win more money overall if it's three ways. The object is to win money, not pots.
@haiderbashir31132 жыл бұрын
You want to raise enough to the point that you can isolate a player with AT-AK, TT-KK, KQ, KJ, and suited connectors. And choose to fold if you need to. That way you can save money in those situations

All these types of hands are hands you should play just you have to be defense when action flops happen. None of these hands will loose you money in the long run as long as you play them right and are good at reading players based on how active they are and probability. An example is I'm not afraid of chasing the bottom end of a straight as long as only 1-2 opponents went to the flop and I am getting the right price if someone bets. If I three bet an active opponent and go heads up to the flop with pocket nines and the flop is Q/8/4 rainbow I'm pretty sure my hand is still good. if four people see the flop I know my hand is probably not good but if every one checks to me you know I'm taking a shot at it. Poker is very situational. All these problem situations you are describing usually happen when too many people go to the flop in a raised pot. Not enough people three bet there strong hands to keep people in check. If some dude raises under the gun every time and several people call and I am by the button with KQ I am not calling I am 3 betting. If the always under the gun raiser raises and the guy right next to him three bets as long as that guy isn't super tight I am four betting him as long as I got a hand I can call a raise with and his stack is a third my size or less so if we get it in and I lose i am not crippled. Another thing a lot of players don't factor is the dynamics of heads up pots versus multiway pots. In heads up your opponent is more likely to bluff you but when you make a strong pair they are usually gonna hold up way more. in multi way pots your top pair is more often beat by being out flopped or out drawn but opponents are less likely to bluff you because their is other opponents in their to keep them in check. if some guy is stuck between you and another opponent he is less likely to bluff because he is worried the other guy might have something. Side Note I beat the World Series of Poker video game a couple of hours ago. also got 3rd(caught in bluff by King high vs Ace high) and 24th(3 outter bad beat with 1 card to go) earlier in the week.

"River raise is always the nuts" Haha too true. I was playing 2 days ago at $2/$5 and flopped a set. Unbeknownst to me I was behind as my set of 3s was dominated by a set of Aces. Anyhow I bet each street and he just called. But the river was another 3. I bet and he raised! (always the nuts) and then I re-raised (always the nuts) and then he jammed the 2nd nuts. A terrible cooler for him but it does go to show river raises are NEVER light.
