Dry brushing Colors used in this video
(Benjamin Moore colors) sample sized
1. Equestrian Gray (green undertoned gray color)
2. Sandy Brown (beige color)
3. Bar harbor beige (same color as base color)
4. All three listed mixed together to create custom color
Takeaways from video #2
1. Make sure your paint sheen is all the same amount of shiny before you use the glaze
2. Dabbing with the deck brush is very helpful
3. Make sure your brushes are completely dry before you begin the project (freshly washed brushes will turn your glaze into a bubbly runny mess)
4. Mixing in some Oil modified Polyurethane can speed up dry time but you have to work quickly
5. Adding some extender like general finishes or floetral can give you a bit longer to finish your brushing
6. Dry brushing several colors pulls the room together, does it not? (Points if you’re a Big Labowski fan 😂
7. Make sure you watch part 3 and 4 (coming soon) for some of my never seen before tips and tricks!!

I always get so excited when you put out a video. I binged all your videos when I first started painting furniture and learned so much from you. I want more and more. Please give us more. You don't bore me and spend excessive time on things like sanding and cleaning. I will always watch you first and foremost in the morning while drinking my coffee and getting ready to get my paint on.

There’s a problem with taking an aerial view of my property. You can’t see only my back yard all the rest is hidden by a canopy of trees. It really helps in the summer!!! Love the idea of Sunday. My front yard needs work.

AS ALWAYS , thank you so very much for giving us what we want! I am still waiting to try this finish. I have pieces to try it on . Just need to get some good weather here in Northern Utah. We had snow again yesterday on May 5th! So, I haven’t been out doing much. I have watched you videos since the beginning. And I feel like I will be able to do it from all I have watched you and taken your teaching to heart. Thanks for all the lessons learned, so we don’t have to experience them ourselves! You have trial and errored everything for us. You are just adorable. I enjoy watching you teach, darling with your kids and husband and real about life and mistakes. This is the finish I am SO EXCITED to try first as the weather warms up. I’m thankful for how your ADHD brain works. It’s is ingenious and teaches many things. Like, making and cutting up an ice scraper to make a painting tool? Like WHAT??? Hahahahahahaha 😂 You’re the BOMB girl!! 🥰

I did it! After months of watching, then several weeks of staring at a half- painted nightstand, I finally attempted the PB wood look following your instructions! Used Open Cyn and Brown stain, I was in awe after one swipe with my deck brush! Wow! Why did I delay so long! Thank you for being fearless and creating this method!!

I found an ice scraper just like that at the dollar store ($1.25). I cut the handle off and removed the scraper. I then cut and tweezed the bristles. I also found a perfect makeup brush there also. Looks just like the one Shannon uses.

thank you ! this is exactly what I needed to see. I'm doing this on a large kitchen table and I've had to redo it a million times because of one section drying to fast. now I will for sure ad the extender! Have you ever done this finish over chalk paint? will it work? also what sheen do you typically use for the base coat; satin? semi gloss? thanks again, and I love that you show the mistakes and how to fix! you are my hero! :)

Hi Shannon- because of your detailed videos I've been attempting to refinish my oak table and 6 chairs. I started out on a few small end tables in my living room that are not real wood and mastered the technique on small pieces and then started the table and chairs. I've been frustrated with the chairs! Do you have any tricks for smaller areas and keeping the product looking even throughout without getting the overlap areas? I've used the extender so I get a little more working time but I'm still finding that the working time is just not long enough for me to play with the entire front of my chairs to get a half-way even result! Any ideas for me so I don't bail and keep them painted????

For the dry brushing, do you sort of go over the piece with one color, and then wipe off the chip brush and go over it all again with the next color? Or should I put multiple colors on my brush at the same time and just go over the piece one time? I'm so lost on this part! Thank you for the video, this has been so much fun so far!

Same here. I literally just finished the glaze so it’s in the garage so it can dry for a few days. I put a light fan on it to hopefully speed up the process. I am loving the look. However, I and feeling nervous about messing it up with the dry brush. Not sure of what types of colors to use. I may just stick with a yellow but not sure what other color ideas to add along with it.

So I ended up doing the dry brushing with the Behr Natural Twine (a yellow) paint. At first I thought I was going to regret it but the very next day when I looked at it, I loved it. I am not sure if I will add additional colors though, but the dry brushing for me is a must going forward with this style.

Thank you so much for these last 2 videos on the Pottery Barn look. Your work is wonderful. I’m looking forward to the next ones. I followed your method and I must say I am quite pleased with the results……. BUT….I top coated with Fusion Tough Coat once all done and dried for a few days. Sadly, I am not pleased with the feel, it’s not as smooth as I would like. Now I need to redo the top of these two end tables. Do I have to re-sand to bare wood and start over because of the Tough Coat?TIA.

Hey! If you don’t like the feel try giving a super fine sand to your finished work like 600 grit or higher and then applying some wax to the tops (I like Minwax in the color natural) I get it at Lowe’s but any furniture wax you have will work 🖤

So I noticed you use poly a lot. I painted a piece like you do & it came out great. A cabinet maker I know says he never uses poly. He says 2 coats primer, 2 coats Benjamin’s Moore aura paint. It is raw plywood. Do you think I need to do all that? And can I leave off the poly? It’s a giant shoe hall tree

I doubt you will see this but maybe someone would be able to help!! I have a wood piece of furniture that is stained. No poly coat. Just stained. Its stained a lighter color… leans a little yellow. Do you think i could achieve a pottery barn look without painting and using a mix of stains?

Thank you for watching so many videos here 🩷🩷 You could even skip primer, just a good clean/scrub with a scotch brite pad and soap and water and just paint right over and then glaze

Hi Shannon, if you use shellac do you also have to use a primer before painting the base color? Thanks!
@slowrunner40

Shellac is a sealer so would act like a primer as well. More to protect against the tanins in the wood.

@@blacksheephouse I tried again and I got the hang of it! My night stands came out good! I was trying to redo my dresser and it started off good then I started to notice that the glaze was drying very fast and started to get streaky. Do you think it's because of the weather? It's hummid outside. Would doing it inside help?

Why are you spraying tops with shellac in the opening part of video? The top was all sanded down. ( Im not asking about the later part, i understand there about the sanding then spray to make it even in finish. ) Im just confused why you showed the spraying of shellac on a sanded dresser in opening intro. Are we supposed the start everything with shellac spray first?
@slowrunner40
@slowrunner40 Ай бұрын
From what I got she sands then either sprays with shellac or a primer. One or the other. They both work the same. I believe she uses the shellac spray when she has primed, painted and then has to do touch ups to get the same finish so glaze and poly don’t have different sheens.
