I was watching you drive in your drift, and was wondering if you could place an adjustable back plate on the bits to allow the same distance on either side of the steal as you place the drift in? Might save some of the guess work out of the placement of your steal during the initial start of the drifts. Just a thought. Might be over thinking it. BUT since I am an engineer by trade, not really surprising to me.
