The corners of that anvil are super sharp, friend. Might want to radius them a bit so you don't get cold shuts. Those are some very nicely done tongs.

very nice and simple thank you so much it really is a great tutorial. I started blacksmithing last year, didnt have any tongs or a forge so started on smaller stock, like tiny stock, practicing cold forging, andsometimes using mapp gas with a couple of bricks made some small tongs and other things, tongs i made using the old school technique you know, jaws first then turn and boss and then turn and reigns. had just build my forge the other day but got a sledgehammer head for an anvil, on a tree stump, started making proper tongs yesterday, from 1cm by 1cm square stock, going ok but hard work on a sledgehammer head. i made the first tong but now i see this video, i may go out and get me a flat bar like yours and do what you did, drawing out the reigns will be fun and good practice too, and dont need tongs to do it, so that will get me a nice set of tongs using your technique and then i can make the second tong the old school way. what size stock are you using is that 3/4 inch by 3/8 inch?
