Hey nice craftsmanship. I really enjoy the fact that you try to be as close as possible to the finish project when the forging is done. You say that you dissolve scales. Could you please explain how ? Does it work only on iron ? Thank you
@nate_weiss_
@nate_weiss_ 5 ай бұрын
The pickling process dissolves the forged oxide leaving a surface better for filing. White vinegar will do the same thing, it works on all ferrous metals to my understanding!

You certainly know how to make use of the whole face of the anvil as a tool when it comes to working the iron. Also, you use a lot of files, have you ever thought about using scrapers in your work as well? I only mention the scrapers because you can actually sharpen the thing with a stone/diamond file/grinder- I actually keep my keen by just using a scotchbrite wheel on my bench grinder, but I digress. It'll fuck the scale right off before you use your files.
@nate_weiss_
@nate_weiss_ 5 ай бұрын
I do some a few scrapers that I use on larger flat forgings, but for some of the trickier bits, files seems to work better for me. I’d like to make some more sen-like tools in the future though

Baller spoon! I'm curious where you source the Wrought? Are you buying wagon wheels or like old window grills?
@nate_weiss_
@nate_weiss_ Ай бұрын
I usually get it from old scrap, sometimes you can tell just by the surface. I’ve got a fair amount of old anchor chain, architectural salvage, and wagon tires too
