The door I'm making for the shop will have quite an assortment of custom made hardware. These small forged slide bolts will secure a shutter in the upper portion of the door.

Thanks. This is a nice idea for a project. A tip on your tapping technique. After drilling the hole in the bar at the drill press, remove the drill bit and insert the tap into the chuck. Start the tap by turning the chuck by hand while applying a small downward force with the drill press handle. Don't start the drill press, this is just to start the tap straight. When it can't be turned by hand anymore, loosen the chuck and lift it out of the way. Then put the tap wrench on the tap and finish the threading. 😊

I started to scream that you shouldn't use a drill press for threading but I continued reading and saw you explain not to turn on the press but to use it to apply pressure and to begin the threads by hand, yes good advice but I would add one thing more to that, make sure that the table is in the correct position because sometimes people will adjust the table to drill or sand at an angle, don't want to start the threads crooked.

They are beautiful. Like you said, you have different tool sets so we will do things differently. It's always fun to watch. Small decorative hardware is fun too.

From the thumbnail I thought this was another C-channel scrap project. I need to see if I can make that work.

Great video and great project. I really like the fact that you explain that people should use this as an idea but alter it to what they like and how you show that if you don't have the specific dimensional metal you can take something else and make it to what you need. This is as always a great instructional video and I can see lots of ways of altering a project like this. I'm looking forward to seeing the door video and seeing it all come together when you get the door installed.

Thanks for the video. I really need to add some artsy features to my shop projects, mine all turn out very utilitarian. I'm making a lathe chisel rack right now. After watching this video I'm gunna add some band-sawn scrolls. On a different subject, I have a question. Where can I get a set of those tenoning dies, for the Smithin' Magician? I don't see them on the Blacksmith Supply website. Thanks again.

You would have to make them in this style. They haven't been available to buy for many years.
