In this episode of the Scrap Metal Replica I show how to forge Petersen E spear head. I based on the archaeological find from Gnezdovo.

The most amazing thing next to your skill at making these is just the sheer size of the reproduction. Most of us think 'spear head' and picture something maybe with a 6-7" or 18-20cm long cutting edge, but they're actually a lot closer to something like a gladius in terms of their size and would have been truly scary things to have poked in your general direction.

right, some could be used as short swords in case the shaft was broken.

What do you do with the project once it's done? You must have dozens of viking weapons just lying around your house.

Most of replicas i forged for last two years are for museum exhibition which will start in July this year. The name of this exhibition is "Black Metal", it will be about iron metalurgy and and blacksmithing techniques used in early medieval in Europe. We plan to make it on-line as well.

Beautiful work! I enjoy watching your process. The scale on your power hammer, have you ever thrown any of it into your iron smelts? I have a large bucket of it that I plan to mix in with a smelt.
@officinaferraria
@officinaferraria Жыл бұрын
i used the scale several times but now i have 3 tones of different type of the iron ore. If u want to use scale for smelting u have to add some SiO2 sand, 10% will be ok.
