I just bought it and can't wait to get it in the mail. These kinds of modeling amps are perfect because they have a headphone output that I can connect to my big JBL PartyBox 310. And an amp that is already excellent becomes absolutely incredible when connected to the right speaker system. When I feel like it and want to play with something light, I can unplug it and use the amp alone. And the Blackstar Architect software is really excellent-intuitive, well-designed where it needs to be, simple, and so on. I still keep a tube amp with a 2x12 cab for when I want to change things up and need a big, full sound, but I stick with modeling amps because there's no need for big amps nowadays. I even have the little Positive Grid Spark Go.

Fantastic video Dagan. How would you compare the 40 to the Katana or Catalyst?
@jamescreswell903710 ай бұрын
Dagan probably won't get around to answering you, so from an owner and user, those amps are in a totally different price and purpose category. This is a superlative feature laden home studio practice amp at a killer price point which doesn't pretend to be anything else.

Great video - Thanks. One question I have please? With the mod/delay/Rev can you have all 3 running simultaneously like the Katana? - The reason for asking was I almost purchased a Line 6 Catalyst and although it appears to have quite a range of effects, it appears you can only have one of them running at once. Pls correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks.
@jamescreswell903710 ай бұрын
Yes you can. From 4 of each type (12 effects in total), you can select 3 different type effects simultaneously. 1 from Modulation, 1 from Delay. 1 From Reverb.

@jamescreswell903710 ай бұрын
Depends if you want full Architect featureset access. Not sure where the V2 sits in that regard, although like my V1 I think its DSP hardware hails from the Insider featureset era. It's totally compatible with Architect, but Architect featureset limited. Because I use my ID:Core 40 so much, I picked up a second in a V3 about 18 months ago at a too good to refuse price predominantly out of curiosity AND for full Architect featureset availability. It has a different DSP to V1. Whether the new features and access to all the features of Architect upgrading from the V2 are worth it to you is the answer to your question. They aren't to me from V3, or V1 for all practical purposes. I still use my V1 (& V3) almost every day as my preferred studio/home practice amps.

All the valve snobs 😂😂 I've owned both valve and digital amps. Vox ac 15, Marshall dsl 40cr, Fender blues jnr, Boss Katana 100mk2, Blackstar Silverline 100w. If your a bedroom player and wanting a amp for in the house go with a Katana or Silverline. Valve amps sound amazing when cranked but no good for the neighbours. Playing clean either sounds epic. Cranked digital amps still sound good but not as good as valve. You can hear it's a processed sound and often fizzy when cranked. Here's the thing though. When your doing a gig your audience dosent give a flying fuck about what amp your using, what brand it is, if it valve or ss. They dont even give a shit about what guitar your playing. They just want to hear use perform and have a right good time a good dance and singalong. I currently have a Katana mk2 100. Can jam away in the house without upsetting the neighbours and take it to gig with. No need for any pedals or nonsense just my footswitch and saved patches. I once sent a vid to my pal of me jamming a new song I'd written on my guitar through a Katana the day i bought it(he didn't know i had it). He replied that tune sounds mint bud, we will have to turn that into a song for the band. Your Dsl sounds sweet what pedal where you using. When I txt him it was a Katana on the crunch channel, I got a Katana. He came straight over to my house for a shot and was blown away. He actually thought i was using my dsl 40 and he us a valve head 😂😂😂

i think guitar amps sound like crap for anything other than guitars. even the spark 40, i think sounds HORRIBLE when im using it as a bluetooth speaker for youtube or whatever, but sounds good for its size as a guitar amp. same thing with all the modeling amps that i have come acorss. heck, even the Joyo Bantamps hooked up to a 1x12, 2x12 or 4x12 sounds TERRIBLE when im using it to run music through on youtube, or wherever, but they sound INCREDIBLE for the money as a guitar amp... i dont think there will ever be an amp that sounds good as a guitar amp and as a bluetooth speaker or whatever, to just listen to music or movies through. i do not think itll ever be possible..... the spark 40 isnt as bad as it used to be, but its still not good. even when i use my marshall as50d and plug mp3 into it too, so i can jam along, the mp3 sounds absolutely atrocious, but as far as guitar, it sounds freaking amazing and is by far the best sounding acoustic guitar amp i have EVER heard and i am SO happy i snagged one new before they stopped making them.
@jamescreswell903710 ай бұрын
Have you actually tried the ID:Cores for this? They have FULL RANGE x2 STEREO speakers which makes all the difference when listening to music. Unfortunately that same technical config is also responsible for the hiss many complain about when turned on with the volume high with a guitar plugged in but inactive. As a 40W practice amp it doesn't bother me as you can't hear it when playing, and the room filling full wide stereo sound in a practice amp is the pro for that con. But it's there on voicings with the noisegate turned off by default, which is all other than OD1 & OD2.
@millermonsterair10 ай бұрын
@@jamescreswell9037 yes. i have. imo, it sounds like GARBAGE for that.. they do, however, sound AMAZING as guitar amps, for the money and you get some cool features with them too.

Tube amps are crazy Over expensive considering the Old technology and durability of it. Thats why today's generation cant afford to have what their grandpa's used as default system..
@dansmith54310 ай бұрын
I just wish Blackstar would release a new amp rather than keep releasing versions of the same amp, still no Bluetooth for streaming music?. You can get the nux mighty air for the same price as the 10watt version which blows this away, has stereo speakers, wireless receiver, Bluetooth, phone app for editing. I just think Blackstar are way behind with the times.
@jamescreswell903710 ай бұрын
When you have a successful working wheel, why reinvent it? I'd suggest Blackstar marketing have done their homework, and determined BT is low on the list of the average person's must haves. It'd probably be easily enough implemented in the ID:Cores technically, but increase the price in what is already a cut-throat competitive amplifier segment. Low latency BT can be added to the amp through a multitude of third party devices plugged into the port. I've done it. Cable will always be more reliable and superior, and of course the latest iterations (V3 &V4) support TRRS. ID:Core as is sits fine with me. I've bought two over the past 6 years, which of course works for Blackstar as a brand associative loss leader as among others (a couple of Fenders) it has incited me to buy two large Blackstar combos as well as a couple of Fly 3s during that time as well.

Digital amps will never replace valve/Tube amps! They can throw all the built in effects they want but they will never sound like a Valve/Tube! I don’t know what it is about this generation and everything digital… they have no idea what they are losing and will in time.

But they are replacing them, in a mix and live settings you cannot tell nor nobody cares, its just the way it is
@PMTVUK10 ай бұрын
They're not made to replace them, they're made to live as an 'all in one' portable amp solution alongside them. Blackstar and other amp makers are still cranking out tonnes of awesome full valve amps, they aren't going anywhere soon! 🤘

RIP Van Winkel. While you were sleeping digital replaced tube amps over ten years ago. Guitarists are starting to walk a lot straighter, not have to lug around 100 watt stacks. I own tube amps, but they are gathering dust. I also own a Helix, a Kemper, a Quad Cortex and a Fractal unit. Kemper’s Liquid Profiling and the Kemper Kab makes them my favourite and indistinguishable from a tube amp, and how long have Kemper been around?
