Very concise and to the point. I have mainly bought this as I have been a lifelong 40k fan and do enjoy the modeling and painting aspect of it but i am also very much looking forward to my foray into board games! Especially during these turbulent times!! Thank you!

End notes on content did not age well. Right now you can barely get your hand on the base game. Might be able to print character sheets and get most of the models from the expansions, however.. There's no expansions available in any store that I can find, at least not in my country ^^

Great review mate, I've used the game to bring a couple groups of mates into the 40k setting proper. It's a good gateway persay to get someone interested to know why that chaps in black power armor or why that spikey lad turned your rogue trader into thin red paste.

Thanks for the review. The missing plot was the reason I was really disappointed. Since then my gaming group has changed into a more casual crowd, it is less stable so I am looking into Blackstone fortress again.

Cheers, good review i own Blackstone Fortress and i would say your opinion is as honest as it gets, love it love games Workshop, but for a new player zombiside might be a less expensive game to start with.

Great review. One thing I wasn’t sure about in the rules is the need for rolling D20 for the enemy units. In our games we have been rolling it once for reinforcement per hostile group and then once per hostile group for their behavior roll. We don’t roll a behavior for each mini. Not sure if that’s as designed or our house rule.

Thanks Brett! Rules as written is definitely a unique roll per enemy figure - but you're certainly not the only one who's playing with a single roll variant: boardgamegeek.com/thread/2111763/behaviour-rolls . I feel that would make the game too swingy though: a low result would result in the entire group falling back, or a high result with some of the better enemies would be instadeath for your whole party.

Tabletop Dungeon Yes. Yes it does. Rein and Rous have been forced out of action twice as a result and only saved with a few lucky D20 Blackstone rolls mid-combat encounter.

Yes - it's a neoprene battle mat from www.fantasywelt.de/navi.php?suchausdruck=KWG09-64 - not really suitable for this game, to be honest, but I use it for 40k and couldn't be bothered getting another different one!
