Hi Guy, My wife bought me this game as a 60th birthday present! Did some airfix modelling as a teenager and painted them not very well so your videos here have been very helpful, and thankfully I have a fairly steady hand. Started off with the Spindle drones which turned out very well and gave me confidence and have now got only 4 of the good guys still to do of the entire set. I’ve got to the point now where I’ve started to add lots more detail to your basic speed paint job and am very pleased with the results. Your tips on dry brushing and how to paint fire were pretty much game changers and Nuln oil is brilliant for adding depth and highlights to the models. Anyway thanks for getting me started on the right track with my painting, I’m just hoping that the game itself lives up to all the hours I’ve put in painting the characters, LOL.

This series is very helpful. Opening up the box of BF can be very intimidating to a new/intermediate painter. This has helped show me some techniques to utilize and not try to make each model the Mona Lisa. These little bitties are meant to be played with board game and will more than likely be viewed from 3-4 feet away.

That's me too mate. Because of his videos I've not only bought BSF, I used his speed paint of the Ur-Gouls and they came out fantastic. The only thing I did different for those was I wanted a bit more grey to come through when I did the teal wash so I used an extra couple of drops of water, and am quite happy with the results. I started off using this video for the drones, but when he adds the zenathol highlight white, I used Vallejo metalic blue instead followed by a wash of Agarax Earthshade Gloss. Other than that I did everything else in this video of the spindle drones. Don't have time to spend 5 hours a model. I'm looking forward to the rest of his series. Now it's onto my Chaos space marines.....I'm rightly intimidated, out of all the models I feel they need to look the best.

Gut a tip for you and Penny when using Super Glue : After application and before your scatter is dry, add some of Penny's baby talcum powder over the Glue and this will create a plastic bond as the two intermix and become one, forming a softer plastic. Useful tip and if Penny says no, well bribe her with half an extra glass of wine!

I've had a bit of bad luck in the past with baking powder turning into weird white crystals with superglue after painting, but maybe talc would be a bit more stable!

These guys came out alright, I'm still trying to get the hang of zenithal lighting. I'm falling in love with the self-made glazes, however, after almost 15 years of painting straight out of the GW paint pot! I really like this method of covering up flaws, especially with the Blackstone fortress base. As an aside, if anyone could explain why they have those divots I'd be really interested. My problem really has been trying to think of a textured base that fits in thematically with the Blackstone fortress itself. All I can come up with is a glowing line on a dark gray base color. Which is cool enough for me but would like some more variations.

Yo! I think the divots are just where the plastic gets injected into the moulds, sometimes they're in different places depending on the type of base. I'll be doing a base painting tutorial soon :)

Day by day I do one of your video :) I noticed that Citadel paints dont have the same texture as Valleyo, seems Citadell paint are more shades like when mixed with water. Vallejo in your videos have a more evenly distributed color when thinned. Wondering if I should use just contrast paints in the future...any advice?

You have inspired me to give this painting miniature business a go again. Last time was 20 years ago and I'm super exited. Question regarding the primer layers: I don't have the possibility to use spray or airbrush, so I'll use a brush on primer. Would dry brushing with white color work for the same effect as a spray from straight above? Since you spray both the Spider Drones and Ur-Ghuls with white before you put on the glaze. Or can I just skip this step and feel fine with the grey brush on primer I bought. Keep up the good work and thank you for introducing me to a new hobby :)

Amazing, thanks for the kind words Christofer! You can achieve a very similar effect with a brush, I might make a video on this one day. Basically, view your model from above, and do a "heavy drybrush" of white (with a little more paint than a regular drybrush) but only on the top-facing surfaces, don't touch anything underneath them.

The Vallejo primer is quite thin and I'm struggling to get a smooth surface. But with baby steps I think I'm going to get better :) Thanks again! Looking forward to the upcoming videos!

Great question! I prime very very thinly, you can often still see the colour of the neon aquarium gravel I use on the bases showing through. It shouldn't be too much of a problem unless you spray it on pretty heavily :)

For the white and grey primers, I use Halfords plastic primer. It leaves a very fine finish, is cheap, and seems pretty hardy :)
