Blackstrap ski area, once known affectionately as "The Pimple on the Prairies," serviced the Saskatoon ski market for many decades, providing a close, easy skiing option for the city. While it opened with a bang for the 1971 Canada winter games, its latter years were plagued with mismanagement, leading to many closures and operational difficulties. This all cumulated with its final closure in 2007. This video will discuss the in-depth history of Blackstrap: its rise, fall, and eventual closure.
The Lost Resorts is a weekly video series that focuses on the history of lost ski resorts in North America. New episodes release every Thursday at 5:15am MST (unless otherwise notified). Join me as we take a look at the forgotten resorts, that were once bustling lively enterprises.

Thanks for putting this together! I learned to ski at Blackstrap...I remember being so scared at the top of the chairlift and how tiring it was to take the T-bar up and ski down over and over. It wasn't til I went to the Canadian rockies that I really learned how to ski. Now I live in Colorado and am reminiscing about my early days of skiing.

Used to ski here in the 90s and 2000s. A bus used to shuttle out, nothing fancy, chartered city bus I think; only rose it once. There used to be a half-pipe in between the chair and t-bar and a terrain park next to it, separated by bushes. The face to the right of the chair lift, of the old jump site, was used for the Saskatoon Freestyle club jump site and mogul training. This was usually the lay out with exception to end of the year slush season, were many of the rails and jumps were moved lower down. The 2005 end of season was mainly a big air jump about 20-30 feet, then shut down. I had one day out there in 07, tow-rope only, up the old t bar line. With exception to a couple of jumps and rails there wasn't much left. The Chalet burned down sometime later.

Putting the location name somewhere, like the title, opening graphics, or anywhere would be helpful in your videos. Thanks for producing.
