I love to see a company back up their products without hesitation or hassle. The smaller the business the more significant a no questions guarantee becomes. After all, bottom line is what's it all about. Your attitude is what we need more of in the USA. Kudos for being a responsible manufacturer (i.e. craftsman) AND a builder of beautiful high quality furniture.

I mostly agree, but a word of wisdom here if i may as a shop owner myself, you will encounter people with no decency who will try and push you as far as they can an grab everything they can while compensating you as little as possible, without a care in the world if that means your business closing down. My buddy working in vinyl wraping hears and sees all kinds.

Hey Cam, very cool of you to replace the yellowed table. My "home state" is Hawaii, so I know how hard the climate is on wood ... I made some Padauk pieces for my daughter, and had to be extra careful about warpage, and finish. That said, I live in Japan, and we have all the Hawaii humidity AND four seasons. I hope to experiment with some epoxy soon, so paying careful attention! Cheers,TG

@loyalty52072 жыл бұрын
Epoxy mainly yellows with high heat and exposure to high amounts of moisture in the air, two things Hawaii is known for. If you're in an area where those two things are a problem you should stay away from whites unless you really trust the manufacturer you're buying from.

Cam, the large router bit is likely M42 high-speed steel, a common grade of tool steel. Carbide is definitely harder, but I wouldn’t worry about that too much for woodworking. If your router is undersized for that bit you should be able to hear the motor bog down. Enjoyed the video!

Customer service: too often people don’t think it to be necessary or just don’t think of it at all, but the act of handling a mistake or otherwise undesirable situation says an immense amount about a company/employees. Cobalt refers to a high speed steel. It’s harder than the typical M2. Cobalt drill bits are used for drilling stainless steel. The gold color is titanium nitride. It is a coating. You will get cleaner cuts with that cutter until it dulls. Carbide lasts longer but is not as sharp.

I believe the first video I watched of yours, which by the way I found to be super, was the white epoxy circle table, for the sole purpose that it was white and I loved the contrast with the walnut. Are you aware if the yellowing is more likely to happen to a clear or white tinted epoxy opposed to a darker tint?

Cam, I love your videos. You show methods and materials even a novice can get. I admit I am not a fan of epoxy or river tables, although it's great for filling knotholes and cracks. I prefer to sort of follow the wood, no straight lines, limb stubs showing, cutting off the worst damage but leaving some for character. About 65 years ago my parents had a slab of monkeypod shipped from Hawaii after seeing it used there. It was finished locally into one 6 ft. long coffee table about 3" thick with turned monkeypod legs. There were 3 smaller side tables of same type, but perhaps 1x2 ft. The set was gorgeous. The table set was the star of the living room for years. It became my mental model for the few tables I have made of redwood and walnut. I have downsized to a small apartment and no shop, but I still make things with a few simple tools. I work on a tiny patio and my neighbors consider me eccentric because I make things with strange shapes using funny old tools. Fortunately they don't mind occasional noise. The wind is my dust collection system. So circumstances have changed with age, but we're still having fun.

CAM - Hey Cam, I have never done an expoxy table before but just had a thought/idea that might help you. You mention that putting the finish on the underside and then flipping leaves marks that you buff out later and it still leaves small marks. I know it’s the underside so unlikely to get scrutinised anyway, but since you’ve already drilled and screwed in the threaded inserts you could consider making some “mini-feet” 1” long with some silicon on their bottoms (that you could reuse) which you can screw in that, when you flip it to finish the topside, the freshly finished underside doesn’t contact with the table/blanket, etc. Just an idea :-) Love the videos. And the narration. Keep it up!!
