I have a love hate relationship with 6006 I am soooooooo glad that you spoke about the wicking issues. Sometimes you wick it and knock it out of the park and then other times well .........not so much and you have to babysit sink holes as well. Well shoot! I just poured my very first Pro Blend 600…and this was actually only my second attempt at candles. My first attempt was 464 but I knew I wasn’t going to stick with that. This batch was so much better as far as my tops go and sink holes! However, I still got the sinking around my wick. I also got some small bubbles around the edge. These were 8oz cement vessels with 5/8 wooden wicks. I poured at 150 with a room temp of about 72. From watching your videos I know I can fix this with heat gun or repour but I’ll keep trying different pour temps to see if I can prevent this. The first one seems to be burning well… even without fixing the top because I couldn’t wait to light it!🔥😂

Great video on the pros and cons of these waxes! I use neither, so I enjoyed you profiling them both individually and comparatively. I see things are going well and I'm digging your new candle shop. It looks like it'll be great for growing into, it's a lot of space! I actually think I'd love that much space, but on the other hand I've gotten used to cozy. Next yearmy hubby will remodel a 15×30 shed for me and it'll give me an area for soap, skin care and candles in one area verses 3 rooms of my house. I may get to host family and friends, lol! If you lived here previously, you don't have a place to come back too........ yet! It's coming! Can't wait to get a good walk through when your finally done getting your candle shop finished! Jill

Thanks for sharing Wade your videos are always helpful. When I started I was trying to figure out too many waxes at one time. I ran out of my ProBlend 600 and I have IGI 6006. At the time I stop testing with it as it is hard to wick and following your advice to do one wax at at time I know I wanted to use ProBlend 600 for my smaller jars. Now I am testing IGI 6006 and I am having a heck of a time wicking. I tried 2 HTP 93 but I am not liking how when I test and blow it out it leaves alot of black smoke on the jar. I did order some LX wicks to try but if those don't work I will probably try smaller jars or just use ProBlend 600 for my candle line. Looking forward to you and Stanley come out with your classes.

Hi great content as usual, a lot of useful information for people who are losing their minds. Question though, for IGI 6006, based on your recommendation, I can try mixing in the FO at 180°F and pour around 160°F not so?

Haha thanks. And yes... you can. You just have to work quickly with 6006 sometimes. I usually add around 180-185 as well snd pour 160-165

Hi Wade, thank you for all your information and for sharing your experience. I am new to candlemaking. I ordered the candle kit from Candle Science and with that kit came Soy 464. I really enjoyed making the candles and am looking to possibly start a small candle business. Enjoyed 464 but the scent throw is not great. I see here that you are comparing the next 2 waxes I was looking to try. Which of these would you recommend for a beginner. Hot throw is important and Soot is not. (LOL). Just looking for honest feedback and appreciate your assistance.😀

Both of these are betterwl with HT than 464. 6006 has the best HT of the three, hut hardest to wick. 464 also frosts and gets ugly tops which I'm not a fan of. So, i would sample both pr0blend 600 and 6000 if you want. Pb600 is the eaiest to use. Don't rush the business part. Focus on products first and business after you've become experienced with the making and products. It will make your life easier. :)

@@teneshiad5103, I will start off by saying that I’m a beginner. Wades videos have made me want to dabble in the craft. I haven’t upgraded yet to jars. I use 8oz tins and the the crackling wick is .625. I just love the way Pro blend 600 works and leaves no sink holes.

I’m so glad I found this video I’ve been making candles about 2 years now and I started off with 464 but the Ht is not great even though I love the flakes and how easy it is to work with. Humidity also effect 6006 a little bit as well. The jars I use recommend to use lx16 for them. But due to the wax in winter it over wicked them. Only a .2 inch difference from the hexagon ones I use an lx 18 on.

Probably not much. Especially straight oil. Maybe some coconut wax could help. Or blending in some low shrink wax but I know you are limited on what's close. :/ where you located again?

Hello Wade, I have a question on soy wax. I realize this video is for other waxes but I'm in a bind. Is it normal for an unopened wax package, to have a lot of chalky flakes? I made an exception and bought from a small store. I wondered why the HT was not good with FO that I've already used with all Candle Science products included. Does the wax expire and does it affect the HT when making new candles? I certainly don't want to put a poor product out there when I'm just starting. I can really use the help of your expertise. Hope to here from you. 🙏

Wax can expire or degrade over time when it's made of some organic oils like soy. But keep in mind that soy wax doesn't consistently give great HT anyway snd is picky about fragrance oils. So thst soy wax you got mightj just not work well with those oils

Thanks for all of the great, informative videos! I've been using 6006 with cd8 and have done lots of wick testing. If I use an 8oz straight sided jar, what would you recommend size wise for testing the HTP, premier 700, and zinc core? I would like to cut down on soot a bit, and I know f/o will cause it to vary, but I just need some guidance to start for those specific wick sizes.

I'd try htp 73 up to 93, premier 740 up to 765, zincs 44-24-18 up to 51-24-18 for tough to burn FOs.

Hey Kevin. No, pb600 is top stuff and is a container candles wax. Try pouring your pillar of bliss at a lower yep too if it helps. Also try something like bw921 or tw30

I’ve used both of these waxes and like the look and feel of PB600 but am always disappointed with hot throw. I’m testing some of my strongest fragrance oils to see if I should keep using it. Any suggestions on improving hot throw? I’ve successfully tested HTP83 and W765, still disappointed with FO that do well with the IGI6006.

I bought Joy Wax and IGI 6006 as some waxes to branch into and decide which I'd like to make a staple alongside Soy 464. I had the hardest time getting IGI 6006 to work the way I wanted. Tried a variety of fragrances to mixed results. Some cold throws were okay, some were incredibly low. Hot throws were weak across the board. Figured those fragrances just didn't work with 6006 well. The sinkholes were always a problem for me. I was burning them in my office where I spend most of my time, so it might be I was so used to the smell that I blocked it out or I am so used to smelling the scents in large amounts when making candles that I just can't pick up small amounts anymore. I'm unsure. Joy wax (or roughly equivalent to Pro Blend 600 I think in terms of soy to paraffin ratio) was so much easier to use. No sinkholes, cold throw was better, hot throw was still weak. I'm thinking I might just not be able to pick those up because I smell the candles as I make them so my tolerance is high. Not sure. Still working on that. I like Joy wax better, personally, purely for the ease of use. I don't see enough benefit to outweigh the ease of use and result issues that 6006 has over Joy Wax/PB 600. I usually make candles to order with 464 but, I want to start having some on hand to reduce the wait time on getting orders out the door. Now my question is, is there a significant difference between Joy Wax and PB 600? Looks like they have roughly the same soy to paraffin ratio but, is there another difference I'm unaware of. I haven't used PB600 before and it was on my list to try sometime if there's enough of a difference from Joy.

Yah I'm thinking you just might not be very sensitive to scents perhaps. 6006 is usually quite atrong with hot throw. Provlend better with cold throw. Both depend on the fo of course as well. But yes... pb600 and joy wax are interchangeable. Same manufacturer I am told

@@BlackTieBarn It is kind of weird. I made another batch of candles with Joy Wax over the weekend and tested them yesterday. They were all strong and I could smell them pretty quickly after lighting the candle. The cold throw was immediately better once the candle solidified. I didn't follow the "add fragrance at 170 degree" instruction (just to test it) and added it at 200 instead. I added the fragrance, while still on heat, for about a minute, then removed from heat, cooled to 160 - 170 degrees then poured. Came out perfectly. Some of these same fragrances were ones I did several tests for at manufacturer recommendations and they had small amounts of cold throw and no hot throw. I am relieved that it just isn't my nose being unable to smell fragrances and it was something with my process or something that I needed to figure out. Finally have some hope that I got a wax I like more than 464 to expand my candle line and have them look better without the frosting issues of 464.

Ive had mixed results. But I typically notice little to no difference whether I add at 190+, 180, or 160. Lol

Hey Wade, I ordered a case of the 6006 wax and I was wondering if I got a bad batch because It is a very vanilla color and not a true white as it appears in pics and videos I seen online. I do only WHITE candles and melts and the color seems to clash with my overall look, also the slabs were not separated so I now have a 45lb brick. Is this something you have experienced with your 6006?

I have but wood wicks can be finicky in any wax. I had some success with them 6006but it was hit and miss. Highly depend on jar size and oil

Ive never seen a jar larger than that successfully single wicked with 6006. Lol. Wicked yes... successfully, no. Lol. 🤣😂 I ended up doubling wicking those sizes with much better results myself

Thats a hard question to answer as their ate hundreds of thousands of oils. But honestly, the majority of FOs I have used with 600y worked well .

I’m using 6006 for about 6 months , I finally found a great wick for my 9oz glass jars … but!! I’m having problems with my cement jars 3 “ diameter and I’m mixing wax , increasing my soy % so far the flame is doing great but now I’m having problems with the HT . Lord!! Never end … hahahah any suggestions ? Can I use any Vybar…

Yah 3" jar diameters are super tough to wick. I don't use them much. You are right tradeoffs to adding other waxes in. But no unfortunately vybar wouldn't do you any good. That's not it's purpose. Plus... 6006 is prebelnded and already has vybar

6006 is just tough to wick. Expecially in jars 3" diameter and up. Usually better off using multiple wicks at that point. Lol

I do Teo test with 6006 just to ensure consistency I test after 2 days. Abd then again at 2 weeks occasionally just to make sure. :)

I don’t know if I really want to get into paraffin and vybar and all of that because it seems less natural and I like knowing that my candles are natural. Are there any huge benefits to going with paraffin or a paraffin blend in certain cases or anything like that?

Most the marketing stuff out there about paraffin and soy is just myths and propaganda. Both are non toxic waxes. There is nothing natural about soy wax. Soy wax is not a wax in natural state. It also goes through chemical processes to become a wax and to hold more fragrance. Which is the other side of this as well. Fragrance oils are worse than wax. They aren't natural either. And the "natural" ones are often more toxic. Now this isn't to persuade you go one wax or the other. My point is that none of these materials are bad, especially when used properly. Most paraffin waxes are fully refined food grade non toxic just like soy. As far as benefits of each. Soy is often creamier and has occasional benefit of customer thinking it's better. Paraffin on othrr hand holds color better and is MUCH easier to get good scent throw. Hope this helps

Facts. I found this out after digging deep and I found an article that mentions this, soy wax actually seems worse for the environment so i don’t even know if it can be considered “eco friendly”. I’m happy that I can move on from that because 464 was just not working for me at all and now I want to try Pro 600, I’m a little concerned about HT problems with it tho as that was the main issue I had with 464 😩

I’ve been using a coco soy wax and the scent throw is good but not as strong as I’d like. Other candle brands that I know use paraffin have such a good scent throw the second you smell their candles. Which would be better for me to try, coconut paraffin or soy paraffin? I know that scent is king and want my candles to be perfect before I launch :) thanks!

Coconut paraffin will generally have better hot throw... all other things equal. But didn't mean necessarily will be easiest or best to use. Pros and cons to each wax for sure

I’ve being trying 6006 the last few days… scent throw isn’t as good as I thought it would be but I’m unsure if it’s the fragrances I’m using or perhaps the temp I’m adding them? Because I’m doing everything else right 😅 I’ve seen some people say adding the fragrance at 85 degrees and others saying to add it around 60-65 so that it doesn’t burn off? I’m confused haha

@@isabellal1716 I wouldnt worry about burn off much. Give the ones you made more time and see how they do. Also work on wicking and trying other FOs. Not all FOs throw well.

I have a bunch of IGI 650 ...it has the same 52%,48% blend of soy and para wax as the 600 .... is it the same wax? it says votives and melts is there more to a wax then Ratios? I'm new to this

Nope. 650 is a pillar wax (for melts and pillars and votives)votive. It's firmer and higher melt point. 600 is soft and for container candles

Hi Wade! 👋Quick question -> I've noticed the 6006 has a noticeable uneven burn - no matter what wick I use. This drives me crazy! Upon further research I discovered that it is a characteristic of 6006 wax. Does the PB 600 have that same uneven burn? Thanks!

When you say uneven burn.... what do you mean specifically. And which wicks have you tried. Yes, though, pb600 is easier to wick. It's softer and has a lower melt point so it burns down a bit easier. But the throw isn't as good as with 6006. But depends on fragrance of course

Yah curing is highly speculative. It's more of something discussed among handcrafters. Large companies Don't concern themselves with as most NCA experts say it's mostly myth. I've seen evidence both ways so I felt it would make the video too messy snd confusing. Lol. My advice... give them both a few days. If not enough, try a week or so. But igi 6006 generally has better HT overall

You content is always great but here are a few tips for bare bone beginners... this is stuff that wors for me! #1 - don't pay to much attention to the "logic" aka official methods that are the norm. Lab results are NOT your basement results! #2 - pour at a temp way lower than suggested by manufacturer. Say around 130°F. This will fix most if not all jar adhesion and sink hole issues no matter what wax type or blend you use. #3 - you can and should settle on a single wick size n type. Yup, a one wick does pretty much everything type of deal!!! Candlescience's wick chart is close enough to burn 95% of whatever fragrance/dye combination you can come up with. Fine tune later on if desired. #4 - CD and Premiere 700 wicks are garbage. They are very inconsistent specially if you buy from different suppliers due to stock issues. STAY AWAY! #5 - Curing candles for 2 weeks is a MYTH. Yeah I said it... It's something that's been repeated so much, you actually believed it smelled better that time.

I agree with most of what you said. I agree lab results don't work for everyone. But it's a good starting point. I agree about low pouring temp.... most you can get away with which will depend on wax type of course. A single wick type is a great suggestion but I like to have backup options as well. Abd also not all sizes work for every FO. I have some that won't burn unless I wick up, etc. But most of the time 95% as you said it works. I agree with cd wicks. I don't like them at all. I've had no more issues either premier 700 than any other wick though. I think the work fine in my experience Curing candles for the most part is unnecessary. But I have had many very stronger with time

I'm a though critic lol I agree with everything of course, just giving some tips that would have saved me hundreds in testing (which I'm still working on) For me Premiere 700 didn't change at all when I tried wicking up or down so in my opinion is best to avoid. With CD sometimes you wick down and it burns hotter and vice-versa 🤦‍♂️ I've had no issues with heavier fragrances like cinnamon and such so far. Lucky me I guess. Keep up the good work Wade. This is by far the best candle making channel on KZbin. I've learned a lot, just wish you had more soy wax content but still. I even bough a new scale from your links below a few weeks back! Also, we live maybe 4 hours away, do you still need an employee? 🤣

@@elflecha007 No man, I appreciate it and completely get it. Thats the fun in this, we all get some different results depending on what we are using (wax, wicks, FO, jars). Just a lot of factors. I tend to agree that there are so many sizes of Premier 700 wicks and they seem awfully close. But I have many candles that range from Premier 725 to 730 to 735 and its the same jar and wax. Just dependent on the FO. I completely agree on CD though, albeit for different reasons. They soot and smoke like chimneys, lol. But again... in certain soy waxes they work descent. And as far as more soy content.... understood and more on the way. I just dont prefer working with 100% soy myself and more and more people seem to be also agreeing after using it. Lol. So I like to use something that is sort of down the middle of the road a lot especially for testing FOs, etc. But there is much more to come once I catch up and get settled. Just so busy right now to be able to do some brand new stuff. And 4 hours eh? Where you located?
