so I have looked at this video several times and I just noticed something you said. Since you only use certain jars and wicks what do you do with the things you bought extra and didn't use?

Thanks for this video! I tried candle making last year and struggled so much, I just stopped. The process of trying to find the right combo was frustrating. This makes it a lot more understandable, but I’m still not sure I want to test over and over. That was frustrating as well. Waiting 2 weeks to be able to test, only to find something was wrong. And then start over. It was time consuming and financially exhausting. I may try again only because I still have a ton of supplies. And I have your tips from this video! Thanks again for sharing! 😊
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn 2 жыл бұрын
Hey there. Sorry to hear thst. I will say though about the testing/cure time. I think you were misled about that. You do NOT need to wait two weeks for testing purposes. In fact you don't have to wait two weeks at all for most waxes. Only some waxes need that. Not sure if thst helps but just wanted to provide a little insight

I started my candle making journey because of these absolutely gorgeous vessels (after swearing I would NEVER get into candles 😅)..and now that I’m months upon months in, all those vessels have become Christmas presents, and I ended up completely changing jars, wax, and wicks 😅 The dreaded T word quickly led me in a new direction because testing becomes so so much easier and fun when you’re working with variables that are much more reliable (straight sided jars are now my go to, but I’m still deciding if I’m sticking with my wax..) This video is vital information for anyone starting out..where were you and this video months ago, Wade?!! 😆 Just kidding, the day I decided to start making candles I found your channel and have been hooked ever since! ☺️

WOW!!! Sure wish I had made this one of my "first" videos I watched in my candle making journey. Love your humor, too. I might have paid more attention in math class as a youngster if the teacher had had a sense of humor. LOL - I love your videos!!!! I have been stumbling around for a while with my candle making -- too long actually -- in trying to get the process right. I've made myself go back to the starting point. For me, that is choosing ONE wax, 2 vessels - 1 is a wide tin, and the other is a Libbey style 12 oz (?) jar, and simplifying the process. I was all over the place before with too many jars, tring too many waxes as a newbie. I won't even tell you how many wicks I have. I was in a state of constant confusion, and as embarrassing as it is to admit, I made a mess!!! Thank you for keeping this video available. When I finally get it together, I'll tag you in a post. I'm nearly there, btw. What a journey it has been.

@@BlackTieBarn I don’t actually mind! I already do a variation of this, as you say in the video: focusing on fixed variables versus changeable ones. I think it definitely helps people who aren’t as inclined to automatically be working through the scientific method to codify those things, and you presented it in a really approachable way. (I also appreciate all the little dad jokes. I giggled, I won’t lie)

So so helpful. You just simplified all of my very difficult problems. I’m a newbie at candle making and I spent money on one kind of wax and one kind of jar. I would like to keep those (for now) because that’s what I have. Those are my constants. I have found the wicks then to be the thing that need to be experimented with (for the most part). Because I have a large supply of wax and jars already, it’s easier to work with them and just find the right wick, wicks are cheaper. I do want to experiment with other waxes and vessels eventually but I will make sure to purchase in smaller quantities next time. Like I said, I’m a newbie and I thought all a candle was, was wax, vessels, and wicks. Nope!!!! Now I have 45 lbs of one kind of wax and 50 of the same vessels and I’m all about using what I have first so I need to find the best wick for this combo. Thank you for putting it all into perspective.
