This would be incredible! Especially because of what the original series brought to the table. Unparalleled new minifigure designs, enormous saucer pieces with some of the largest prints ever, even fiber optic lights! Imagine what they could do if they rebooted the series with the same kind of ambition!

I was already in my dark age when blacktron came about so classic space is what pulls my nostalgic strings. But now that I am an AFOL, I have come to be aware of blacktron and look forward to getting this as it looks cool.

This Blacktron Renegade and yellow castle sets were my 2 favorite sets I owned as a kid. I got my Lego's back from my mom a couple of years ago and I was able to rebuild them both. I can't believe they brought it back, it is going to be a day 1 purchase for me!

This set is from the height of my Lego collecting when I was a kid, so the nostalgia is big on this for me. Not only that, but the original is one of those sets that I really wanted and never got. I love the second chance that these throwback sets give, and I hope that Lego keeps it up.

I do think it is a little bit of a miss not having a smaller blacktron set available at the same time as this, like the GWP from a few years ago. This set has modular pieces, and is compatible with that GWP, but that modularity is sort of lost when there are only a handful to use. That being said, the Galaxy Explorer often went on 50-75% discounts, so maybe this can serve as a "cheaper" set down the line

Back in the day, they really emphasized the whole "rebuild a set in to different things by having images of alrernate builds on the back of the box or instruction books. I used to love taking apart sets after building them per the instructions and trying figure out to build the alternates just off the one picture alone!!!

This is right in my era. I’m excited as when I was a kid I usually only got smaller sets (until Ice Planet & Exploriens that is). However, now that we’re getting the bad guys, how about a small little GWP Space Police ship? (Original, not 2 in my opinion). I think that would be a really really fun companion to this set.

7:26 RE: Castle: I was around for ‘80s Lego. And ‘90s, and ‘00s, and… well, you get the point. And I agree that the various Lego Castle factions have a lot less weight than the Lego Space factions. As kids, we really only categorized into “forestmen” and “knights”. I always saw the different coats of arms as representing _individuals_ moreso than _factions._ I.e., the king’s coat of arms was the lion, and his soldiers would carry matching shields, but his knights would each have their own coat of arms, and their soldiers would carry matching shields, but there was no reason to assume that knights with different coats of arms were enemies or even rivals. Or even separate. We always assumed that the knights were all on the same side, sorta Arthurian, and the different shields (and flags and tabards and so on) were more like the Knights of the Round Table, than like sports team jerseys. It’s only within the last ~5 years that I even discovered there were Lego Castle faction partisans. I always just wanted as many _different_ shields/torsos/etc., and only wanted a couple of each, because to me the way to have a huge army of knights was for every one to have a _different_ livery (and in most cases a couple squires/soldiers that matched).

I had that impression as well as a child. There was the Forestmen who were very much like Robin Hood, then you had the Wolfpack who were just some scoundrels, and then everyone else were the King's knights and he had his wizard who was up against the evil witch, and then there was this bat guy who also seemed a bit evil... It was only as I got older that I learned the more intrinsic setup of it all and how the King even had a name! But it makes sense. As a kid you're just playing with it as it presents itself - knights and castles.

I got the Galaxy Explorer set (last one in the store when I got lol) as I couldn't get Benny's spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! set so you're exactly right in the fact Space to me was introduced through the LEGO MOVIE that's my nostalgia bait lol. I don't actually have an attachment to the original theme, so collecting the newer Icons stuff gets me in the door and I also get some of them for some sort of collectors value i doubt I'd sell them tho. I love ICONS as it reimagines these classic themes but with something like Star Wars and the licensed IP I don't know how well this Blacktron set will do outside of collectors/with kids. I own the GWP Blacktron set they did so I'll be getting this to pair with that.

I feel like this will do well outside nostalgia because Blacktron (and M-Tron as well) ARE so different in look and style, while still feeling like classic Lego. The color schemes of both subthemes are very striking in a good way. The GWP Blacktron set was super popular, so I think Lego will move a lot of these.

This is undoubtedly the coolest set announced for 2025 for sure. I didn't even grow up with Blacktron, but everything space related with some nostalgia added on top will get me hyped every time. I only got back into Lego about a year ago and Blacktron is something that somehow stuck with me when diving into the deep KZbin well of Lego history video content on this platform.

Real talk it’s just a well designed, well priced set from original lego IP, I would love way more of this instead of Star Wars or marvel or whatever, which is more expensive and less creative. I wasn’t even around for the original stuff either, I think it stands on its own without nostalgia

I disagree with their being one way to play with LEGO or if you just display sets you're doing it wrong. The sets are the foundation they allow you to see techniques and such and offer you play scenarios, detailed replicas with bricks and pieces you put together to create the model, yes someone else has designed it but it's still rewarding. I can see the best experience is both but if you don't have time and aren't that creative with LEGO that the official sets themselves will do just fine. If you want a greater challenge try building someone else's MOC build like ones from Brick vault. Once I have kids I'll get back into Creator 3in1 and Classic just to have the bricks and spark creativity but for now I just want to collect and build a set to display.

This new Renegade looks better to me than the original. I do miss the black hoses. Having the Alienator as a B-model with a repair mech makes it very complete.

I wasn't alive in the classic Space era, but inherited those sets from my dad who was. My best friend growing up similarly got lots of classic lego from yard sales, so I have a lotof nostalgia for these themes... except Blacktron, which I never personally had, nor remember my friend having. But I did see it in the old catalogs and thought it looked amazing, enough so that I tried to make my own Blacktron mocs with the yellowwindscreens from my classic Space sets. So I am very interested in this set, as it's a chance to get a theme I thought was cool as a kid but never got to own, and which is very expensive secondhand now. Now here's hoping they revisit M-tron someday...

Yeah, I agree: it's more "niche" in a way that the Galaxy Explorer wasn't, so I don't expect it to be as big a seller. On the other hand, I'm really happy for the people who do feel like their specific childhood favourite is being recognised. I'm sure that it's going to be a hit with them, which is great. I have to take my hat off to the designers too: it really does look how I'd expect a Blacktron ship to look if it were designed for 2025! My memory of the original line is a little hazy (a friend at primary school had the smaller ship in that line), but on its own terms it just looks sooo cool!

The OG Blacktron was awesome because it was the first space sets with visors on the helmets. And it was the first named space theme with implications that it was the "bad guys." And after the wonderful star wars influence, what else were the gray and blue classic sets supposed to shoot with their lasers? I recall seeing the Renegade in the catalog and was shocked and excited as a little Lego fanatic. I remember having to wait for it for months. And then I begged and pleaded for the Invader and Battrax, which were all in the first round before the Message Intercept Base and Alienator came out. Oh the memories! The thing that was so different (and still is) is that the Renegade was pretty much the only asymmetrical space ship in the Lego universe. I am absolutely signed up to get this at minute 1. 😂 I do have all my original blacktron sets (all from 1, and a few from 2) and a bunch of Space Police 1 and 2, and they're all coming out of deep storage to reunite! I for one, can't wait for this!

I was pretty far from being born when the original set was released, however I just really really like Lego classic space, love collecting minifigures from the different old space sub themes. I'll definitely get this set to go with my galaxy explorer and blacktron cruiser and I'd love seeing Ice planet or MTron coming back!

This was a fantastic discussion about this set!!! I personally never had the original, and thus have no relation to this new one. Beyond that, I really resonated with what you shared about the "spirit" of a Lego set, so much that it both has me debating this set, *and* glancing at my shelf at any I may want to disassemble to try "playing" with it again 😅 Throughout your video, I did notice your general demeanor with the current language around these kinds of sets. Iconic, Classic, "Nostalgia Bait", all feel kind of odd to use. With that in mind, looking again at these long beloved themes, I've come to love the word "Historic" to describe them. Expanding on that, you highlight the difference between this Blacktron set and the Medieval sets. Perhaps adding a modifier to differentiate them. Pondering it, I like the term "Updated Historic" and wanted to share this train of thought 😁 Thank you for sharing your love of Lego and it's history through making these videos!! 😍

In my 50's, never seen this or the other space re-release before. Looking forward, I do think retail shops are going to handicap sales to the 7-10 year old, in that, these large Icon boxes are most often displayed very high up on shelves. My local LEGO, Walmart, and Target stores never have the more expensive sets down low for curious young eyes to see.

I'm not totally sure I had this original set... stopped getting Lego around this era... but the little robot is SUPER NOSTALGIC!!! I might have had some smaller BT sets... had some Futuron, for sure. YELLOW CASTLE REIMAGINED WHEN??? Also, Shell Service Station?? FABULAND?? (Animal Crossing is close, but I'd sell my soul for Fabuland nostalgic set!) As for the "I don't like it when people just build once and display forever more" I get it, but as a kid I built sooooo many MOCs.. as an adult, they're more collectible art pieces.

Kind of shocked they didnt plate out the wings like the galaxy explorer, the studs dont seem to work on that expensive of a set. The plated wings gave the galaxy explorer a level of class the original lacked. Which is nice to see when placed side by side.

I'm actually too old to be nostalgic for Blacktron. Back in my day, Lego spacemen were white, red, and yellow. Blacktron came out at the start of my dark age, so this one doesn't interest me as much as the new Galaxy Explorer did. I am glad that fans who are nostalgic for Blacktron are getting the new Renegade, even though I'll be passing on it myself.

Born in 1975, and very much brought up with Classic Space, I have absolutely no nostalgia bot Blacktron or any of the other post Classic era sets. However this is a day one purchase for me. As a kid one of the things I loved about Classic Space was the trans coloured pieces so the black/trans yellow aesthetic really speaks to me.

What you have not mentioned here, which makes this choice all the more strange is that the original set was not generally released worldwide - it was a US special set. I wonder if Lego may have been fooled for thinking this set is popular due to it's high value on Bricklink, however, that's only due to the original sets' scarcity in the first place.

I think they missed the boat on the re-configuration... Yes, sub-assemblies come off, but there's really only 1 reconfig that "works" for play based on what I'm seeing here. But then again, I'm a Galaxy Explorer generation. I missed out on Blacktron.

I do also find it a bit disappointing how cheaply they are appealing to nostalgia, they re used the explorer windshield and using stickers instead of printing is quite telling. I am a huge blacktron 1.0 fan and love seeing these sets don’t get me wrong, just wish they show a little more love and attention to detail

The new city space cruiser looks good but a lot of the 2024 city space sets have already been discontinued. I loved classic space.. but had moved onto technical Lego by the time blacktron came out so it doesn’t grab me at all.

It’s a must buy for me. I still have the Blacktron GWP from last year was it or 2022, unopened. These two will sit very well together. I think I was 9 possibly when I was gifted the Blacktron 2 Spybase for Christmas 😁 boy I wish I’d kept that set. We can see from after sales of the Galaxy Explorer - 10497 not doing well at all since it retired last year. Certainly more of a niche set, but totally awesome Lego are catering for nostalgia. I predict a smaller scale Pirate ship in the future like a remake of the Renegade Runner 🔥

AND I'm surprised you didn't mention the fact that The Renegade wasn't released outside of North America! Making it an even more niche product to be revised. In fact my very own Renegade flew all the way from Canada (impressive for a 30 year old bird). I'm probably going to get three of the sets, two for the static builds (hate me all you like LEGO designer!) and a third for the extra minifigures and the ability to make new MOCS! Come my fellow Blacktronauts! Witness the return of the Blacktron Empire! :D

Blacktron 2 was my era. I had every BT2 set there was. I remember some classic space but for some reason those didn't stick with me as long as BT2. Chalk it up to being too young I guess. But now I am trying to hunt down anything 80s and 90s lego space. After 2000 just never appealed to me and I am getting sick and tired of Star Wars.

I think you are wrong about castle. Yes, castle people will accept any castle that is put out there, but there is sever disappointment when its not "my faction". Space people might feel this more so though, where if its not "their faction" they won't buy at all. I just want my Black Knights please.
