Hi. Just curious. Do you always use AIDA cloth to make blackwork. I was wondering if it works on evenweave too?

What stand do you use?

It's this one here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e53Gn4qNnt2ggJo and is available from our online shop along with hoops and stretcher bars: www.sarahhomfray.com/myshop/cat_264747-Embroidery-Equipment.html. We use two to keep the frame really still under the camera but you only need one really.

I thought blackwork was supposed to look the same on the back as the front. Is that not true?

It depends on its application really Deborah; blackwork was traditionally used on clothing and was done to imitate lace, so you could see both sides of the fabric. The counted fabric also means that if you aren't careful you can see the threads crossing underneath so don't travel your threads across an unstitched area on the back. If you work your stitches as a Holbein stitch you can work some stitches out to be the same on both sides but this doesn't work for all patterns.

Do you use one strand of thread to do blackwork stitching? Your needle is flying and I cannot tell if it is one or 2 strands. 😂
