I disagree. Blade II is very good, but it's not as good as Blade 1. Sure the action is better in 2, but the story, villains, tone were better in 1.

It's... Not cyberpunk at all. It has nothing to do with the genre of cyberpunk. It's an a mythilogical action-noir film. Cyberpunk would be Terminator, Blade Runner... Things that deal with the way the machine influences humanity.

You mentioned Twilight, which came out in 2008. That franchised, which killed the image of vampires, overshadowed one of the best and bloodiest vampire movies of all time that came out the year before. It's called "30 Days of Night". It was the last REAL vampire movie before the Twilight movies. It's about a town in Alaska that is put into 30 days of no sunlight due to it's location. A group of nomadic vampires just happen to show up this time and they have full reign over the small town before the sun will not rise for a month. It's a great survival story and WELL worth watching.

Funny thing, I already knew about Blade, Whistler, and the vampires of the Marvel Universe watching the Saturday morning Spiderman cartoon a couple of years before this movie came out. The episodes he was in even mentioned how his mom was bit by a vampire when she was pregnant for him, in a Spiderman cartoon for kids, Lol. I went to see this the last day of summer 98, at the theater before the school year started while I was working there, changed my entire view of "super hero" movies, which back in the 90's, was hit or miss, with a LOT of misses

Love Blade and 100% I can see why the mainstream audience would have no idea going in that Blade was a Marvel film. I love the MCU but if you're someone who has only seen the films post Iron Man then you'd associate Marvel with the MCU along with it's unique tone and overall vibe. So going into a mature film like Blade with The Invisibles (DC comic by Grant Morrison) inspired visual design of an alt underground sub culture you'd be surprised to find out that it's Marvel. Also on the topic of The Invisibles it also inspired The Matrix visually and in story elements so both films share a common connection by this amazing comic series. The Matrix made this sub culture Mainstream but it excited for years before these films. I love the MCU but I do think it needs to break from it's formula as that's the reason why alot of people get fatigued. I don't believe in Superhero fatigue at all as the genre is so wide that anything could be classed as a Superhero film, Robocop is a great example. So they really do need more films that have a unique tone and style but can still be connected by a shared universe. Deadpool and Logan are other great examples as well and even the MCU has it's films with unquiet tones like Captain America: Winter Solider that are more grounded and gritty. A mix of all flavours, same goes with DC as well and this hope Gunn doesn't fall into that trap off having the same Formula applied to all his DC films. The DC Animated Universe is a great example of having a shared universe but different tones for each show. More of this please. Glad you liked this film. X-Men, Blade, Spider-Man, even Fantastic Four I loved all of these as a kid. played the X-Men, Spider-Man and even the Blade game and they were a blast. But i'm pretty sure I first met him in The Ultimate Alliance games where you had a massive roster of Marvel heros. Always cool to fight as Blade alongside characters like Daredevil, Spider-Man, Iron Man etc.
@CaptainAmercia
@CaptainAmercia Жыл бұрын
Edit: Also I'm pretty sure Blade showed up in the 90s Spider-Man cartoon hunting Dr. Michael Morbius so I could've met him there first as well. Punisher also showed up in the show and funny enough first appeared in a Spider-Man comic. So it's fun seeing mature comics and movies around these two characters who have interacted with more PG hero's like Spider-Man.

This movie saved Marvel. Marvel had filed for Ch. 11 bankruptcy, and the rights were sold to help earn money. Once this came out, it showed all the other movie studios that comic book movies can be successful and has an audience if done right. From there, studios flocked to Marvel and bought up as many rights as they could.

Racquel...yes, the redhead from the start of the movie actually had a name...was played by Traci Lords, who is most well known for having started in a bunch of Adult films in the late 80s. However, most of them were banned after it was discovered that she had been using a fake birth certificate to work and was actually under 18 when she made most of them!! 😮 Also...the guy that played the night club doorman that she speaks to, was actually her real life boyfriend.

I like to think that Blade, Spider-Man, Hulk, Daredevil, Punisher, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Ghost Rider all take place in the same universe made up of all the late 1990s and early 2000s Marvel films. I know Marvel did try to connect these with little Easter eggs and cameos like Wolverine planned to show up in Spider-Man 2 I believe but because of shooting schedule, rights divided across studios it made it really difficult for these to cross over and it never happened. But that's my head canon anyways. While Blade is doing his thing in this film the X-Men are out there, few years later Peter Parker is bitten and becomes Spider-Man, Bruce Banner becomes the Hulk, Daredevil is just coming around to his abilities, Frank Castle becomes the Punisher, The Fantastic Four are formed, and Ghostrider is born. A world with Vampire and Mutants sounds insane but that's comics for you.

A lot of people think the strange hue throughout Blade is due to a filter; it is in fact due to how the 35mm film was processed. Blade used what is called Bleach Bypss (also known as skip bleach or silver retention). It is a chemical effect which entails either the partial or complete skipping of the bleaching function during the processing of a color film. By doing this, the silver is retained in the emulsion along with the color dyes. The result is a black-and-white image over a color image. The images usually have reduced saturation and exposure latitude, along with increased contrast and graininess. This process was used in the 1956 adaptation of Moby Dick. However more recently cinematographer Roger Deakins used it during the production of ‘1984’; & most notably Janusz Kaminski used it in Saving Private Ryan & Minority Report. Oh & regarding the bodies at the start; there’s a cut scene that shows more of the bodies in bags.

I believe this process was used for Seven, too.
@davidanderson1639

@@21stcenturyhiphopthat is correct. Sadly, it’s something of a dying process; with a lot of modern films shooting on a digital format, current technology allows it to be done digitally in post production.

YES!YES! FINALLY! This easily on of the most badass comic movies ever. I was so stoked when this came out. I knew about Blade because Ghost Rider was my favorite comic character when I was a kid (early 90s Ghost Rider, not Johnny Blaze). Blade was part of the Nightstalkers along with Hannibal King and Drake but those 3, Morbius, Ghost Rider, Johnny Blaze, and some others were part of the Midnights Sons. They would routinely crossover into Spiderman and his villains. Also, Marvel put out some special edition comics with Wolverine, Punisher, and Ghost Rider teaming up. Later Blade got his own series. I still have Blade Issue #1. Great reaction Lauren.

This was released a year before The Matrix so it's cool when ppl compare them. Blade actually makes the trenchcoat work better for his character wheras the matrix just kinda had a gothic look in a film about computers and machines. *_Blade was not the first Marvel movie: I think technically Howard the Duck (1986) is considered the first Marvel theatrical release (There were some Hulk and Captain America "Made for TV movies/straight to VHS movies prior to that, so they don't count). But Blade and the Blade Trilogy would have been the first Marvel classic Superhero movie in the first wave of Marvel movies before Marvel studios was formed and the MCU started (in 2008). That first wave of movies also included : Daredevil (2003), Fantastic Four (2005), and later it's sequel, and Ghost Rider (2007) and it's sequel as well. (That of course is excluding the Fox/Marvel properties that released the Sam Raimi Trilogy of Spider-Man and the X-Men movies after the success of Blade)_*

As a teenager in the nineties, it was my favourite era for films & music. Right at the end of that decade were my two favourite films of all time, The Matrix & Blade. It's really cool to see a younger person enjoy these classics. There are so many excellent scenes in this film that it's impossible to choose one above all others. If I'm asked the best line in any film, I'm always going to pick "Some mthrfkrs are always trying to iceskate uphill." For 25 years I've wondered if Blade was referring to Deacon Frost's arrogance that he believed he could become a god, or his arrogance in thinking that he'd somehow be able to beat Blade, but whatever it meant, it's the most badass line I've ever heard. Oh and completely UNPOPULAR OPINION... I think the sequels, Matrix Reloaded & Blade 2 are even more intense than the first films. You asked about other Wesley Snipes films, having already seen the wicked Demolition Man. I'd suggest Blade 2 (Blade 3, I don't know), Passenger 57, Murder at 1600, Boiling Point, Money Train, Rising Sun, The Art of War and US Marshalls. I'm sure there are a ton more, but those are the ones I can remember. Thanks for another cool video...!

A good Wesley Snipes movie that I like is “U.S. Marshals”. It has Wesley Snipes, Tommy Lee Jones, and Robert Downey Jr. but it is a sequel to “the Fugitive”. and that has Tommy Lee Jones, and Harrison Ford in it, so you might want to check that one out first.

As far as other Wesley Snipes films: "Blade" 2 and 3, "Passenger 57", "Money Train", "White Men Can't Jump" and "Rising Sun", just to name a few.

I'm so glad that you enjoyed this, Laurenn, I thought that you would. The sequel 'Blade 2' is excellent too, 'Blade Trinity' the third film isn't as good as the first two, but still very enjoyable. For other Vampire based films you really should react to the 'Underworld' series the first three of which are the best, the last two are still okay, I know that you'll enjoy them as you have enjoyed this so much. 🙂 For Wesley Snipes films, I recommend 'Rising Sun' also starring Sean Connery from 1993 and 'Passenger 57' from 1992 it also stars an old friend of mine, Bruce Payne.

Even 25 years later, this movie still holds up well. The ONLY FX that kinda takes me out a bit is when Frost's hand regrows, the visual effects on that aren't great but they're still better than The Mummy Returns lol. The blood rave is epic (side note, the human at the Blood Rave went on to play Lemonhead in The Shield, and the vampire with him is Traci Lords from Cry Baby among other movies) and the way Blade just kinda appears there, spotlessly clean and everything is insanely cool. The stunt/fight team is fantastic, Kris Kristofferson is badass, EVERYONE was so well cast. It's a tough call to make, but I think Blade II might be just a little bit better, but mainly because they've already established Blade so they can just jump back into his world, and they got another stellar cast for that one, including the guy who lost his hand to Blade's "pig sticker" playing a different character lol

For anyone who grew up watching the 90's Spider-Man Animated Series this was one of the best superhero movies ever. Honestly, I think if it wasn't for that show we would've never gotten this movie.

One of the great things about Blade (Besides Wesley's outstanding performance) is the fact that it didn't get bogged down by a forced love story. It mostly focused on action and plot. While the third movie is the weakest in my opinion I would definitely recommend you watch the trilogy.

FYI - secret "Raves" were common back then. Mostly the location was spread by word-of-mouth or direct invitation. Not everyone was let in and security was intense!

A vampire flick you should check out is Near Dark (1987) that was was directed by the famous Kathryn Bigelow. Trust me, the film will certainly leave a impression on you if not because of the cast by the very least due to its uniqueness within the vampire genre.

Snipes is ALSO great in a comedy called Major League, a dramedy called Too Wong Foo: Thanks for Everything Julie Newmar, and if you like him as an action star, try Passenger 57 - where he plays a very Blade-esque cop in a "Die Hard on a plane" kind of thing, a thriller with Sean Connery called Rising Sun, and an underrated sequel to The Fugitive called U.S. Marshalls, with Tommy Lee Jones. He's also in some of The Expendables films, if memory serves, but his run of 90's films was pretty amazing.

@@Ylyrra He's not the first person to get screwed by the people who were supposed to have his back, but sometimes its not about winning the fight against injustice - its just about making the stand when the situation demands it. He's not the first minority to get targeted by jealous, arrogant authorities, either. Snipes is a bit weird in his personal life (imo), but I admire how he can be so zen about everything he's been through. Like many actors, he may not be all that bright (maybe he was a bit arrogant himself smokin' weed in Cali before it was legal), but it takes guts to put it all out there, and strength to endure the endless parade of cheap shots and second-guessing that come with just trying to make a living in the limelight in the first place. To quote a line from The Right Stuff (about the astronaught Gus Grissom), "Well, I'll tell you something, it takes a special kind of man to volunteer for a suicide mission, especially one that's on TV. Ol' Gus, he did all right."
