I would like to share something with anyone who's looking to learn this type of silat. While the first and best choice would be with Guru Maul - I mean, I would love to have him teach me and my kids - but, if you just can't get ahold of him, a good alternative might be some Malaysian silat. From what I've seen, Guru Maul's silat has a lot of similarities with what I'm learning now, which is Silat Seni Gayong Malaysia. For example, the moves being demo'ed here are similar to the locks my kids have learned, and they're 7 & 6 years old. In other words, it's a beginner's level move, so there's a good chance that many styles of Silat would also teach it. The style of instruction would be different from Guru Maul's, of course, since he's the one and only. Also, not all Malaysian silat are like that, of course, but maybe that would help you get started in finding a teacher. The flavour of Indonesian silat might differ even more than that of Malaysia's, but perhaps a good starting point nevertheless. Just get started in Silat and see where the road takes you. For those who want to say that Silat is from Indonesia and not Malaysia, please go bother someone else. If it's yours, it's yours, no matter what your neighbour has, so please don't project your insecurities onto other people. Having said that, let's all wish that we all could learn from Guru Maul personally one day, eh? Thank you Guru Maul and WOMA for these awesome vids!

A realistic attack whith Machete the body IS more long distance and cut whith the end of blade , impossible to catch , i doubt about this technic even in silat
@FahlbergAfJesus2 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, but I have to be sceptical about this. If you look closely EVERY attack that the guy with the machete makes is out of distance. If he would continue his attack, he would not even strike the guy defending with his blade. He would have hit him with the pommel. The guy defending would have ZERO chance of pulling his catch/parry off like that. All systems that rely on your partner doing stupid things is not a real martial arts system. Also, when he parried one handed from the outside, that whole sequence feels unrealistic. Does he have any videos where he has pulled that off in sparring? Like at all?
@bangmasse36442 жыл бұрын
Light sparting unarmed yes. You can find that video maul channel. He try to make new rules for silat competition yhat allows throws, takdown, pinning down, etc.

If you watch really close, Maul is moving off the line of attack when he sees the arm chamber back for a strike so he's always counting from the side
