@@jouille4524 Yeah I've played Hellsplit Arena, I don't know why I said I haven't. He's sorta right and sorta wrong. I love fighting Zombies because it does feel kinda realistic with the dodging, parrying and the similar parrying in Battle Talent. But you are 100% right. It's not even late game, it's just bosses. They're so tedious. There's no fighting, it's just chipping away at health while backing away. The only boss I enjoyed fighting was the very big guy because I could slice his intestines out. Oh but the Archers... I hate the Archers, I don't know why he liked them. You sometimes have to take a hit because when you get close they release the arrow instead of being dumb and putting the bow away. Do you understand? All-in-all, I liked Battle Talent the most and I've only played the demo (I didn't realise the full game had released until a couple days ago). B&S is not exactly *carried* by the modding community, but without it then it wouldn't be as popular. Hellsplit has some really satisfying fighting but it can also be incredibly tedious. I like them all but some have major drawbacks.
@RinkieGeintie
@RinkieGeintie 10 ай бұрын
Throwing becomes alot easier in B&S when instead of throwing it regularly, you quickly push it in a straight line away from you and then release. This way it it way easier to aim, and it still has the same force behind it. It also stops the weapon from spinning around. (This is of course only effective with weapons that have a point on the end, like swords, daggers, and spears)

I've tried other games than Blade & Sorcery but despite the worse graphics, the bad AI and a lack of story or progression the combat is a lot more immersive because of the full physics simulation, other games feel like they play a preset animation when you hit an enemy whereas B&S doesn't need it and just has the enemies react to hits in a realistic way, despite its jank the combat has a lot more weight than in other games

As good as the sword physics are in Blade & Sorcery, I've always thought the enemies have been a huge let down. There are too many janky situations where their physics system will cause them to spring about weird and it just feels like movement speed is too high. But I love how B&S simulates push-stabs and drag-cuts. That's not something I've really noticed in other games and it's something that would fit perhaps a more seedy game.

battle talent has different defense mechanics- there's blocking and parrying. blocking is that same thing you demonstrated, but parrying is more like grimlord- you have to swing into their hit to parry, and it stuns them for a bit while also forcing them back, and the boss enemies that are bigger such as the dark lord and the orcs can know away your weapons if you just hold them out- you need to parry against them such as in grimlord. as for why you wouldnt just parry all the time, it takes more time as you have to swing into their hit, and if you are just trying to not get hit quickly, then blocking would work great against most enemies. great video!

Early game you can do pretty much what everyone else can do but once u get deep into the skill tree youll have moments where u can throw someone into the air, jump then airdash to them before u hit em with an arial combo that rivals link ult in smash, then on your way down kick another persons head to platform off them and project yourself forward in the air again before ripping a skeleton in half with your bare hands. Blade & Sorcery has a Recharging Mana system that you can see on your wrist next to your health bar. Granted it recharges pretty fast but saying you have infinite mana is incorrect. Also Blades isn’t that clunky depending on how you play. In a situation with multiple attackers it can feel pretty clunky at times especially if enemies run into each other but it’s definitely not as bad as he makes it out to be at least in my opinion. As long as you attack the enemy at the right distance it can feel fine and there isn’t that much jank.

I think default you can only throw like 3 or 4 fire balls before you gotta wait like 10-15 seconds, you can old lightening for a few seconds before no mana, gravity takes up most of the mana I think. . the powerful attacks where you hold your hands together "like the fireball nuke" take ALL your mana. I digress, you can turn both imbue and magic to have unlimited mana in the book :D (Default, its off)

I feel like you are just hating on blade and sorcery tbh. It's the sheer fact that you can do whatever you want with your enemies, especially with mods. Cut off a guy's head and beat his friends with it. Grab a man's feet and do the same by swing him around. Kick a guy off a bridge into spikes. WWE style smash a man through a table. The whole idea of it being junky is why it's so fun. Technically there is parrying, you just have to manually do it, guide your opponents sword as you block, leaving him open. Pull an Anakin skywalker and slice your opponents hands off as you parry their attack. Man just cut of someone's arm and use that as a weapon. Edit: parkour and stealth???? Beautiful, the freedom you have is absolutely amazing! You can just fly using the gravity spell and superhero land on someone's face

Battle Talent was done dirty in this video. I can break it down good an quick for ya though. Light taps with a SHARP weapon do light damage, strong attacks do strong damage. Blocks just block and are purely defensive, PARRYS allow for stunning and staggering. Staggering is always an option depending on where you hit an enemy and how hard you hit. Throwing is good and if you can't throw good without connect assist it is just a skill issue. Decapitations in battle talent are well implemented because it requires power and precision aka a critical hit, you can also cut off every other limb in many segments and even cut the enemy is half (Separate their butt from the rest of them.) Its is an excellent game and deserves way more credit.

I'm absolutely addicted to it. finally a proper single player vr game you can just sink hours and hours into and develop proper skill. the physics is so good you can throw a spear into a wall and climb it. it's every bit of dark spuls we've been neeeeeding since the inception of vr. kinda surprised you didn't add swordsman vr to this video. can't wait to hear your thoughts on it. it goes even beyond grimlord when it comes to armor physics more or less. but extremely disappointingly horrible dual handling for swords. which was sad as I was really looking forward to practicing bushido style katana combat. swordsman vr really prepared me for grimlord. never thought of sword combat as strategy playing the other games ass you'd just be ripping them apart. to the point where I played blade and sorcery exclusively unarmed. but swordsman vr forced me to think and strategize my moves.

Swordsman VR is unfortunately garbage. I predominantly like sword fighting and skill in these kinds of games, don't really care about progression etc... Swordsman is janky and all over the place. In the 20 minutes I could stomach playing that game before I refunded it, my sword must have gotten stuck on my enemy's swords a dozen times for no reason at all, causing our arms to rubber band for a few seconds before the game woke up again. I definitely don't recommend, it's just bad.

It seems that you failed to point out how blocking does knock back skeletons and only knocks the player back on strong attacks in Battle Talent, but the clankiness of the movement is also a little dependent on how you move, so if you are constantly walking through the enemy, your weapons will drag through them, and that is where you would run into problems. With the long reach grabbing, while doing it, you have to position your hand in the correct orientation in order to grab it how you want.

I would go for Battle Talent over Swordsman VR, the combat feels more impactful in BT compared to SVR. Plus you have much more freedom of combat in BT, SVR has very specific openings to kill the enemies, but once you figure that out, the game gets very repetitive and easy even. Battle talent also just has more content in it!

Imo i think battle talents ai is the best. They react to what your doing and where u are. Even with the goblins who are the lowest tier of enemy, they will roll away from your swings and leave bombs in their stead to trick you, theyll throw knives at you, if your far away theyll straight up blitz, they can side step you to a point where they're litterally go from being in front of you to behind you and even knock your weapon outta your hand. Also not to mention that each enemy has nearly a 3-5 attack string thats unique to them and this is not even counting the actual bosses who are just on another level and really force u to learn hownti fight and the mechanics of the game.

Advanced mechanics to consider. Edge alignment when cutting. Damage and defense types like cut, piercing, blunt. Edge binding. Grappling. Advanced parring attacks on one tempo. Strong vs week sword contact when binding blades. The firs developer that implements this gets out of piñata style fighting game.

I love this style of video where you compare and contrast similar game mechanics in various titles. Very informative. I've been thinking recently that it's sort of ridiculous that so many VR developers are spending their efforts reinventing the wheel when it comes to game mechanics. It'd be great if a developer could just license the gameplay code, AI, and animation systems from one of these games (say, Hellsplit Arena), and just focus on making content, with maybe a bit of tweaking of the mechanics to feel unique. Sort of like modding, but with a financial agreement in place so the result could be sold commercially as a standalone game, with the developers of the original gameplay systems also being compensated. This would be a much better use of VR developer's limited resources than spending years trying to make better melee physics than existing games, with all that effort usually yielding marginal improvements at best.

Two things needed in Hellsplit: 1. Weight of dead enemy you stab and pull the sword out. When pulling the sword out of their dead body, they shouldn't stick your sword as you pull and become weightless. 2. Knocking an enemy down and then having to constantly beat them like a hammer to a nail for 30mins is ANNOYING! Other than that its a pretty good game

Battle Talent has progression but extremely generic story. (The story is: You the real life person is isekai'd into the talent temple via magic defice called vr headset so you are the new Temple Master and must defeat the previous Temple Master because he has turned evil and calls himself the Dark Lord, You must also attack the homes of innocent goblins and kill there families for whatever reason if you want to fight the Dark Lord even though he didn't really say that he would do anything evil exept bring world piece through-out all monsters and humans in the Chaos Realm which is for some reason a bad thing) I have B&S Nomad, Battle Talent and Grimlord and I do have to say Battle Talent is the best in my personal opinion (Very aggressive but skillful gameplay that is hard on the hardest difficulty with super strong bosses) but it does have some flaws like the final boss only being easy compared to the other bosses with the real strongest boss being the Hammer Orc which is a 8ft tall gigachad holding the only weapon that is too heavy for the player to use (well you technically can use it but it is extremely hard and very slow) Battle Talent is also getting Bonelab-like avatar mods soon (It already has a Collosal titan avatar that can be used as a teaser) so you will be able to get big and small soon so the orc won't be that huge when you can be double its size.

Nicely ordered analysis, well done. Allow me to run my mouth for a bit about Blade & Sorcery. The source of Blade & Sorcery's jank is also its greatest resource: its reliance on physics in combat. This often manifests as a janky mess when players first start out, or come over from one of the other games you mentioned. It takes some time to get a feel of the game's internal laws of physics, but when you start playing by these laws, no other game compares to how engaging and intuitive the combat becomes. I don't mean to refer to a "git gud" attitude, because the VR playerbase is too small for that nonsense, but there is a definite vision behind the way the combat works. It's a work in progress, and there is still much do do, though. The lack of a parry knockback is by design. There used to be one in earlier version of the game, but it has been deactivated since U11. This allows the player to catch the enemy's weapon on their own and redirect it. In other words, you create your own opening. These are the kind of things that makes the combat feel so interactive when you get used to it. I've got a couple of videos on my channel showing this, if you're wondering what the hell I'm on about. There are still plenty of things to change and improve in the game, though. it's by no means perfect. And that's just the combat. There is a distinct lack of main-game content right now, which should be getting betting following the next update. Cheers!

I love that parrying doesn't stagger the enemies, it's honestly boring for me when games do that. They swing at you, just move your hand forward and now they're completely open. In B&S this allows the enemies to have chain attacks at times and I especially love some of the mods that make enemies attack more often and faster which makes it more fun and interesting

one of the big reasons blade and sorcery, combat wise, is not as strong as the other games is because the game is a "full physics simulator". the game isn't fully focused on medieval combat, rather being one the games more or less side focuses. with shit like swimming and climbing, blade and sorcery is built to be a simulator, not a medieval game. as Baron said, the melee combat is a side effect of their dedication to being a physics simulator.

I actually think the stabbing in games like B&S are pretty good, and don't think the "walk and hold sword out" stabbing needs "fixing". I mean, imagine and actual, sharp blade or spear - now imagine the force and momentum a standard person has from just movement, PLUS any armor they have on. If you assume you have a good grip on the weapon and walk with force, it would pierce skin pretty easy (it still wouldn't work on armor of course). I think the only reason it may not feel satisfying, is because we don't "feel" the walking (unless you use a VR treadmill I guess), and the enemies do ragdoll a bit easily and feel less weighty than a human would.

A real sword will still cut if you waggle it, so long as you're not hitting with the flat. Also, Battle Talent's "Deflect" ability works exactly like parrying in Grimlord so idk what you're on about here.

I was pretty disappointed in Battle Talent's parry system. I couldn't get the deflects to work at all, and even the blocks only worked about 30% of the time. I even recorded it and reviewed my gameplay to see what I was doing wrong, but in the playback I was clearly blocking their weapon with mine and still taking damage. I don't blame you for thinking that blocking/parrying does nothing in this game, it does seem to be catered more aggressive crowd. Feels kind of like Devil May Cry in VR. Grimlord's blocking/parrying is almost perfect, with the exception of the knight's fast overhead often clipping through my weapon. I just wish the enemies weren't HP sponges. Hellsplit Arena is on my list next. I have high hopes for it.

I love GrimLord and HellSplit. They're two of my favorite VR games. GrimLord is what I've been waiting on since I first got a headset. I haven't played Blade & Sorcery because I've watched a lot of gameplay of it and it always looked janky to me. I also need more than just killing people over and over to keep me playing. I also haven't played Battle Talent but now that I know it's not just an arena fighter I think I will give it a try. I have Undead Citadel. I bought it after I finished GrimLord so I didn't have to go cold turkey, but it sounds like it's not going to live up to GrimLord's greatness. Two games not in this video I really enjoy are Legendary Tales and EverSlaught. Both are amazing and if you like any of the games in this video those two are also worth trying.

I think you might be the first person I've ever seen to say Saints and sinners melee combat is the best, for one all you can do is stab. Slashing doesn't do anything unless you have a cleaver. actually using two handed weapons isn't that good, katanas just feel horrible. And there isn't melee against other enemies, the closest thing is people pushing you back when close and zombies grabbing you

Of these games, I've only played Blade & Sorcery and the demo of Battle Talent. I like realistic physics and swordplay, so for all its faults, I love Blade & Sorcery for how good the swordplay feels. With BT it was a deal breaker for me when a goblin crossed his sword across his chest and held it there, able to block any attack I did on him, whether it was a stab or hack from another angle... I know it's not supposed to be realistic, but I want more dynamic sword fights. Can anyone recommend which I should go for? I just want to feel like I'm becoming a more skilled swordfighter in the game and don't care about abilities etc - I like good parrying mechanics where I can hit enemies in a certain part of their body and it reacts accordingly. I want to be able to use weapons fully - their hilts, pommels, etc. B&S modded weapons allow that and it feels great to be able to half sword. Hellsplit Arena or Grimlord perhaps? Side note: Swordsman VR is dreadful, but you'd think it has everything I want in a VR swordsman game. Terrible mechanics, clunky and nonsensical.
