People say that 100 hp is slow. But what they don't realize is that a motorcycle is lighter than a car and doesn't need that much power.

Most bikes are 7-15x lighter than cars (300-600lbs vs. 3000 to 5000lbs) So 100 HP behaves more like 700HP (I know that's not exactly how that works, but w/e) 150HP bikes are fast asf. and 200HP bikes are godly. 300+ is literally a death wish as some others have commented!!

One note about the turbo thing: bikes are way more sensitive to changes in power while cornering (adding power makes the bike want to stand upright more, whereas braking makes the bike fall over more. The rider must manage all this while factoring their body position and counter-steering) and the power delivery of turbos can make that much more difficult, hence why there are so few examples of factory turbo bikes and they all were pretty much unsuccessful commercially. The only place you'll really see turbos on bikes is the drag strip, where cornering performance doesn't really matter. It's also why Kawasaki opted for a supercharger in the H2 series, as the power curve is much closer to something naturally aspirated; you just get a lot more of it.

Thats why turbo bikes only serve two purposes: fun project builds and highway missiles. Harleys have probably the largest turbo scene, and thats because they suck at cornering already, so you're not taking much away from their capability as a bike. On the other hands, harleys are great for the highway, and adding a turbo can make riding in a straight line that much more enjoyable. Turbos are not something you add for performance, you add them because you want to build something different.

Bladed, as a car/motorcycle guy I agree with you but I got to say is that motorcycles are a different culture. I feel that bikes are also so optimized from factory that is hard to improve bikes with mods aside from comfort mods and aesthetics. Personally I own a stretched CBR600 F4i and get a lot of "why would you stretch a 600cc?". Because it looks cool and is a commuter bike, not trying to break any records here.

4:40 the most terrifying thing that I've seen that fit the 3rd (and technically the 4th too) is something called "ban cacing" in Indonesian motorcycle scene, they use super thin tires to "save weight" on an already stripped bike, going way above the speed limit and become serious danger to everyone on the street

CORRECT! A lot of luxury cars have lots of sound deadening. Even my Z06 doesn't have much, but I saw a straight piped Iron 1200 Sportster still be quiet until he got near me....WHen he was in front of me, he made TONS of noise (Pipes facing towards you) but when he was behind me, I literally didn't hear him at all, until he was maybe 50 feet within me. THAT WAS A STRAIGHT PIPED BOOMER V-TWIN!! THose are louddddd, yet they still get drowned out by general road noise! So Bikers need to just remember to rely on their skills! Not on others "hearing/noticing" them!

Wheels on a motorcycle are quite often for show bikes, just like with cars however when you get a proper performance wheel on a bike you will feel the difference a lot because there's not that much unsprung weight and lighter wheels help a lot with the handling of a bike

Wheels for bikes is a far more complicated thing than wheels on bikes. The only rep wheels are factory reps. Legit aftermarket performance wheels start at 3500 for the pair, and you better hope they make them for your bike.

If the fumes are so noxious that you’re passing out at stoplights, you have a lot bigger problems than your exhaust. I’ve ridden all sorts of bikes, from stock new stuff to vintage race bikes with honking great megaphones. I’ve never once noticed exhaust fumes while I’m stopped for a short period. It’s a complete non-issue. Even when starting up and letting them warm up, it’s no worse than filling your car up at a gas station.

Bladed, gotta say, we here in india can only flex bout the Royal Enfields and KTM (A bajaj product here) , these are the only actually good Performing machines we get here, Cars are overpriced Overmarketed and sadly underpowered And Indian Roads too aren't suitable for such High Horsepower beasts, That's why motorcycles especially of 400cc class make sense here practical fast affordable relatively good on gas They are literally the only viable option for folks like us stuck here in india! I want to get a mid-60s Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser that's in rough shape, pull the 330 and use it as a parts engine for my F85's 330 (or if it has the 400, sell the engine for parts if it's thrashed or as a long block if it runs good) and put a tuned 6.0 Vortec in it. Sure, not as big boy powerful as a proper performance LS, but the pre-2007 iron block 5.3 and 6.0 truck LSs respond to tuning and bolt ons pretty decently while staying stone cold reliable. Slap a Holley EFI system on them and be that one guy with a station wagon that's way too powerful for its own good.

Love the video, and love the bikes! just about done rebuilding my bike from every bolt down and while this ones factory parts, your giving me bad ideas for my main dirt bike! I've definitely noticed that with bikes its a lot more of "you like bikes? so do i! what's your..." and you learn out of it, a few car people i talk too its more "why would you do__ instead of just___?" sometimes feel more status than pure enjoyment (everyones different but i've seen both lol). The best one i know so far at least near me is the offroad racing scene, we're all just happy to be ridding and help each other out even on the track mid race sometimes. Again amazing stuff, ill be surprised if anyone reads this far XD

I was chuckling a bit while watching this video. My dad has two GSXR 1000's. A street bike that he recently installed a super charger onto and a 1/4 mile drag bike with nitrous. And I think one or both of them have an aftermarket exhaust. Actually the drag bike doesn't really have much of anything for an exhaust pipe now that I think of it. Following bladed's advice he told me the other day that as a biker you should treat everyone around you as if they are trying to kill you.

An old colleague of my asked his buddy why his scooter was hold together with duct-tape. Fun fact: the whole 'loud pipes saves lives" doesn't work when the sound comes out from the back of the vehicle. In order for this to work, your exhaust needs to be pointed to the sides of the bike.

What's holding you down? If it's an FI conversion, use a dedicated ECU (at least a Microsquirt but limited capabilities, recommend a FuelTech with that screen doubling as a dash, Haltech, Link can do too) and depending on your crank trigger pattern it might just need a cam sensor for individual cylinder injection/ignition. Retrofit a Hall effect sensor on the crank trigger for a cleaner signal - not required but helpful! For throttle bodies the Yamaha e-throttle (YCC-T) would be great, but modding it to fit your intake port spacing can be troublesome, what size carbs does it have? (Might be better to use the 2006+ R6 ones instead of the huge R1's)

Oh I too prefer slip ons or just stock exhaust over a full system. I hate when I hear loud v twin cruisers. Like they sound ok stock when they're not blowing out your ear drums, but when they are they just sound like piercing farts. Like after getting into motorcycle I started to question why car onlies call i4 fart machines when they're no where near as bad as one cylinders or low revving cruiser v twins. Btw I'm not calling all v twins on this because those like the sv650's just sound amazing. Speaking of which I'm thinking of maybe getting one as my first bike, they're so cheap and reliable, and with a restrictor for a2 license they're just perfect as a first bike, with like just a little more added weight over something like a ninja 300.

There is indeed a point where loudness of exhaust gets excessive. Buddy of mine had a Honda Shadow 1100 with shotgun pipes on it, thing would give you a headache if you were near it for more than a couple minutes. I try to get my exhaust just loud enough to be heard from a distance for safety reasons in traffic, but I draw the line if it gets loud enough to cause me issues. Had to put aftermarket exhaust on my '81 Suzuki because its pipes rusted out, but it was so quiet you couldn't hear the engine when cruising at 60 mph. Pulled the baffles out, and its a little bit on the loud side now, but not bad enough to cause me issues on my 70 mile daily commute.

I love Dusrbin Fairings. Not just the appearance of them, but the performance & efficiency gains are well worth the crosswind struggles to me. Have you seen the concept Dustbin Fairing art, including Fulcrum Sprint Dustbin Racer? Then theres sport bikes with aftermarket canards and downforce wings replacing mirrors. Sadly, Airtech-streamlining is going out of business, because he's retiring. But you can find or make your own fairings. And also putting active aero on a bike. And aftermarket windscreens for better airflow over your helmet.

People who scoff at (comparatively) low HP numbers on low weight vehicles don't consider PWR (Power to Weight Ratio). They also don't consider power gains in percentage. Which admittedly is less of a consistent performance comparison. Using percentages is a good way of gauging performance gains against your own build. PWR comparisons are good to judge between other builds/vehicles. The HP on my turbo miata is 295hp. Stock HP is 140. That's a gain of 110%. My car is fast for a miata, but not fast for a bike. The 2022 Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX has a PWR of .241. My "fast" miata has a PWR of .126. The Ninja has more than double my PWR. It would smoke me. For comparison, a 2016 mustang, with 435hp has a PWR of .116, meaning my miata has more power per weight than the mustang GT, despite the car having more than 100 more HP than I do. The car just weighs 3705lbs. That's 1373 more pounds of mass the engine of the mustang needs to move, compared to my 2332lb circuit tracer. Weight plays a huge role in performance. Far more than the average enthusist gives credit. Your average bike weighs about 500lbs. To edge out my car, the Ninja would only need to make 64.76HP. Those are pitiful numbers for a car, but for a bike, that power will fly past most vehicles on the road. When in doubt, "weight reduction bro"

As someone that always preferred motorcycles but has been enjoying your videos for years. I would be super interested in what you think about the past 2022 Yamaha xsr900. Would love to hear it or even better see a test drive. I think overall a Series called something like a review of ... In the eyes of a car guy (even if I know you have been a biker for a while) would seem like it could be super popular/extend your audience if you would enjoy making them. Also I would say most bikes know cruisers can be fast from a dig, but basically no Harley is completive in a corner. Some are decently sporty but I think the view of it being slow from other bikers comes through the fact that every beginner biker can get a land missile to go fast in a straight. But most bikers I know that call someone fast talk about their cornering ability, I know a guy who rides a R6 but every midlife crisis's 1000cc Superbike rider gets told not to try to match his pase because they will most definitely wrap themselves around a Tree.

People forget power to weight ratio is a thing, when you have more weight you meed more power to accelerate that weight. It can become a vicious cycle, because in the quest for more power you would need more weight(bigger engine components, more parts for reinforcement) which require more power.

The problem with “loud pipes save lives” is that your exhaust noise ricochets off of everything and nobody can actually tell where the source of the noise is. You are just a moving speck in a cloud of obnoxious noises, if anything you’re just making the drivers around you more aggressive with a loud exhaust. Loud pipes don’t save lives, they paint a target on your back.

The complications of removing a motorcycle wheel might be a factor. Car wheel: lug nuts. Motorcycle wheel: lots of things in the way, especially in the rear.

That bit about the wheels is why I won't use tire shine stuff like Armor All on them. I'm even careful when I wash my bike. Nothing with a coating goes near my tires.

I think the main reason people keep wheels stock is because of all the hardware that covers wheels. Forks, swingarms, brakes, sprockets, belts, and exhaust all are in front of your wheels, blocking basically all but the rim. With cars all that is behind the wheel, you see the full face, unobstructed. So the style is more important, because it is just more visible.

Power to weight ratio is what makes bikes bikes. A "measly" fz/mt-09 (115hp at crank, used ones go for ~6-8k USD) does 0-60 in 2.95 seconds. That is a lot of zoom for little $$ compared to cars which can do the same.
