The sheath is such a large factor in how to integrate a fixed blade into EDC. I'm interested in adding a TOPS little bugger into my rotation.
@thenorthernwoodsman34554 жыл бұрын
Your pants can help a lot. I EDC an ESEE 4HM with 511 pants, and the sheath hangs off the belt and gets tucked into the pocket. It's a perfect combo.
@andrewlong54193 жыл бұрын
Completely agree, the sheath is almost as important to me as the knife itself. I edc a fixed blade in the Delta Sheath. It's a leather sheath the clips inside the pocket with a utili-clip. The sheath doesn't move and I've never had an issue with retention though I won't say it's as good as kydex for retention. It's biggest down fall is it's bulky in the pocket compared to a folder. But I use it too hard at work to use a folder. And the massive difference in ease of re-sheathing is worth the extra bulk. And I carry a smallish knife (bradford gairdian3) so it's not that bulky.

ESEE4, every day for the last 4 years, I use the spring clip to carry 5 o clock IWB ( inside the waist band) and appendix CCW. The sheath disappears and it's so satisfying when I need a sharp chisel, prybar , 8"Sonotube concrete forming tube cutter, etc. I have lived at a building site in the Uinta mountains for two winter's and ate breakfast,lunch and dinner on my tailgate and I don't miss carrying the nice tactical folders... The ESEE4 performs like a big knife, the slim handles and sheath keep a low profile and absolutely rugged durability of old school 1095 make me feel ready to take on any problem.

@chaz73464 жыл бұрын
Kydex? It has that problem sometimes. Especially if it can rattle around in it.
@krazykat644 жыл бұрын
Chaz Miller It didn’t rattle around, it was just the stupid way it was designed. One of the retention screws is really close to the opening and unless you’re slowly deliberate and careful about how you draw the knife the sharpened edge is almost guaranteed to drag across said screw on its way out of the sheath, thus dulling it. I could literally hear it scrape every time I took it in or out. I did a search when I first noticed the issue and it turned out I was far from the only one who had that problem.
@andrewmabry89954 жыл бұрын
Same here. It's going back to the store. It's the pins that run through the retention clips are metal and the blade slides across them on the way out and in. Got a CRKT SIWI on the way.

One of the knives in my EDC rotation is a buck 103 (I have both the wood and phenolic ones). The handle is super comfortable, and while the steel is nothing special the geometry is good. One thing I can't emphasize enough about fixed blades is that once you find one you like, don't settle for the factory sheath unless you love it! I have three custom sheaths for my bucks, two kydex models for EDC and a leather one with a dangler and firesteel loop for camping. Some people might think I'm crazy for spending $100 on a sheath for a $70 knife, but I look at how much I like the knife more than how much it costs when I choose to invest in it.

A slip is essentially a leather pouch that has a pocket clip on it. It's different from a sheath in that it covers up the entire knife whereas the sheath has an exposed handle. You'll usually find it with slip joints but some fixed blades use them. The Civivi rustic gent is a good example of what a slip looks like.

I daily a Fallkniven f1pro. The dangler that it comes with hangs from my belt with the sheath inside my back pocket. It's a perfect all around small knife, but it looks huge to a lot of non-knife people. Keeping all but the handle tucked away in my pocket keeps me from getting "those" looks. I've used it for everything from cutting cordage, opening boxes, pulling nails, opening bottles, even made a few sandwiches. It's my little buddy

I carry a Tops Street Scalpel on my duty belt every day. Also carry a folder In my pocket. But love how little space it takes on an already crowded duty belt. Great last ditch blade.

Love knife banter. Long time fan. But these are starting to feel rushed! Take your time let them run on!

I carry the same White River knife that you have here when camping, hiking or out in the woods.. if not out in the woods or something like that I use a neck knife from Holtzman's Gorilla Survival... It's a cheaper one off Amazon but good kife in D2 just for farthing around town.. But my best fixed blade I have the ESEE 4P Survival Fixed Blade Knife, OEM Sawtooth Handle Design, Black Sheath.. And use it car camping for processing wood.. 😎✌️

I actually thinking about getting the ronin 2 as a defensive knife but wasn’t sure about the steel I don’t know much about the bd1.

Hey guys, DON'T destroy that long hair: Suggest to him to donate to the "LOCKS OF LOVE FOUNDATION"!! That's for those because of cancer/treatments can no longer grow their own hair!!! You CAN'T cut it and then donate as 1) they've requirements that MUST be followed (no scalp issues, shampooed on site etc.!) 2) they don't accept brought in hair!!! SO, UNLESS HE'S ONLY ABOUT HIMSELF, THEN HE SHOULD AGREE TO HELP OTHERS!!!!! Take care, "God Bless", sincerely Randy. 👍🙏😇👊 P.S.: Where's the Wed. Banter w/GAW's???

Why does momo Zac find it necessary to mention that he “uses” his blades or that it’s dirty from his “use” every chance he gets?? He’s a straight poser.

I’ve been carrying a Cold Steel Secret Edge for six years. Recently I added the KaBar BK23 and the Dozier skeletonized fix blades for a change up. Sheath on all three has much to be desired, but quite versatile and useful blades. Especially for someone who suffers from peripheral neuropathy and hand issues, but still loves working with hands. And all three are not too scary for people at my job.

And ironically-I bought all three from you guys, and the Dozier was from a recommendation from a review by another viewer on here.
