I am going to second this. I like making most of my props without weathering, because I want them to look like they are for display. That said, there are times when the weathered and worn look makes it feel more authentic.
@DominusFeles

My thought too 😃
@JesseCohen

You have the first one "fresh off the line" as it were. Take a look at some images of pistols in a similar state, and apply that light touch that would represent test firing and light oiling that most factories use prior to shipping a piece out. Then, with a second casting, go for the "in service" look of a good 5-10 years of wear and tear. A bit of friction wear on moving parts will really pop with that thin metallic casting job worn back, and then highlighted with darker metallic tones and just a touch of oxidation. Superb work man, makes me wish 3D printing was in my realm of ability, financially or otherwise. There's a few lightsabers I'd like to iterate in similar fashion.
@MrSpacepauls
@MrSpacepauls 5 жыл бұрын
I agree, do a second weathered and keep this factory new. Would also be cool to see some custom package for the gun with a security lock to get into it and a beginner handbook or maybe a certificate of ownership... All in the style of the blade runner universe of course.

I say leave it unweathered. 99% of all props made today are all weathered, and that’s just to hide flaws and make it more realistic. This prop looks real enough without weathering and is almost flawless! Keep it pristine!

Talking about printing your own. Should I print in ABS ( to account for shrink ) or is PLA also acceptable. That depends on the tollerances. And since I had trouble printing the 3DKitbash stuff in non ABS materials ( simply doesn't fit any more ) , I'd rather ask now, then Cry after hours of printing.
@Ramjetjetpilot
@Ramjetjetpilot 5 жыл бұрын
@@guinhill I used PLA and I am very happy with the fit. Like in any model kit, there is going to be some sanding and Dremel work. It is the nature of 3D printing as opposed to a injection molded kit.

Very nice work Bill. The attention to detail is amazing. I would suggest a _very_ light amount of weathering -- almost invisible -- mostly as dark "grease" in the inner workings. Just something to make the parts look as though they've seen a bit of action.

Stunning work bill, a real culmination of your experience coming through in one piece . I think you should keep that as it is and cast another one with the metal parts rust colour for chipping later , or with iron for rust treatments . There is scant few times I comment on a video, but this is one of the few that I just have to say: I love this. I love this to death, to pieces and I'm tickled pink every single time I watch it even if I've watched it enough times to basically memorize it. A while ago there were STL files of a pistol from Warframe that my friend from Texas printed, and he sent them to me. (still have to pay him...) The reason I bring this up is because there's nothing more in this world that I want more (other than like, happiness of course) than this build. The only problem is: not only do I not have a 3D printer, not only do I not have the equipment to make it, I don't have the funds to pay to even attempt it... *sigh* the life of a broke college kid. Some day. Someday I'll be able to have a Blade runner Blaster like this...
