Going that fast while blading takes some talent. I couldn’t go that fast where I was working just cause of all the settled stump holes and ground mixture. One second it hard black clay next thing you know the blade is 4 inches in the ground. Slow and steady work then finished off by back blading the whole area to smooth it out more and make it more level and less holes.

I'm starting to get an idea about just what you are doing with the blade and why. It's taking me awhile to figure out the subtle adjustments, but I really enjoy watching the videos and trying to understand. Getting it level must be a LOT harder than one would think. Thanks.
@groundupexcavation5 жыл бұрын
John Apel it’s extremely hard. It’s a totally different view than this from the operator seat. I back blade a lot so it doesn’t bite in and dig holes once I get it close to how I want it to be. You have to constantly watch each side back and forth to see what adjustments need to be made.
@johnapel28565 жыл бұрын
DmaxMarshall that's what I've heard Chris say. Trying to get things smooth instead of washboard like. I'm just beginning to see how he moves the blade to compensate for bumps and dips so he doesn't dig in. It's fascinating to me. Of course I have no idea what it's like, having never been on a dozer. That's what is so neat about his videos. I've gotten the best idea about how it's done by watching the skid steer smooth stuff out, where I can see the whole machine from outside and translate that to the bigger machine. Like any big kid, I love watching you guys work. Thanks for responding.

You're doing a "fine job" with the dozer, many people that think they're dozer operators can't fine grade! A nice volvo grader would be great for that job....I nearly bought one but decided to stick with Caterpillar as I had great service from the Cat dealer.

Pure idle curiosity: Just wondering why you chose to do that size lot with the dozer rather than using your grader? Regardless, nice job, as usual.
@johnleake7085 жыл бұрын
Is the blade on your dozer all manually controlled? Looks like that machine does a real nice job of making a level plot. The operator is the key, I have run a dozer several times many years ago, definitely an acquired skill
@groundupexcavation5 жыл бұрын
Yes, you have to make each adjustment by hand with a joystick. On the 450j I was running. Joystick foreword and backwards raised or lowered, left and right tilted the blade, and twisting the joystick left or right angled the blade.

@had2galsinthebooth5 жыл бұрын
There may be skids underneath for just that reason. If they don't get moved often they don't need wheels. Skids also keep it up off the ground to prevent rot. Skids are sacrificed to save the structure.
