So, too bad he didn't have him using road pedals where your shoes had a cleat with a slot to hold the pedal and it was impossible to pull out of toe clips. That's why track racers still strap their feet in.

I really like the fact that you made Blake ride clipped-in in snow and mud, to show that slippery and tough conditions are just as safe to drive clipped. The only real challenge with cleats is that, snow tends to stick to them and you need to kick it off to clip in.

Great job, Blake! You look like me trying clipless pedals for the first time this week. I'm 48 years old, and ever since I started riding a bike, I used flat pedals. It's what I know, and I'm used to it. Why change right. Well I went riding with some mtbing friends and they all had clipless and were surprised that I was still using flats. Well needles to say I decided to give them a try. It wasn't pretty. My local bike shop said practice on a rail trail first to get used to them. No, I decided to go right for my rocky, rooty local mtb trails. I had a couple falls before I started to learn to unclip. I'll get used to them I just need to keep practicing. Thanks for sharing your experience with clipless pedals!

5:24 🤣 The big thing is how you can pull up as well as down = lots more power. You can also jump sideways if you want to change your line. I rode clipless MTB for years, but eventually realised the extra confidence of flats made a difference to how confident I was on more technical stuff, so the clipless pedals are on my road bike now.

That burn is because you start training different muscle/ligament groups. Clips actually make you use more power for any given task. Start here kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJyrnI2Yrt-Doa8 and into the rabbit hole :) End of the line is you ride better on the thing you train longer. You can go ride clips, but do you really hate your ankles and knees that much? :)

I started riding clipless earlier this year and can attest to the power and control that you gain, definitely less winded at the end of a ride, but after a freak accident where a failure to un-clip caused a bimalleolar fracture, I am probably back to flats for life. I won't say never, but it may be a while.

This is a great video gents. A great reminder of how t used to be switching from flats to clips. You definitely made some great points on the differences between riding both (pros and cons). There are times when flats are preferred but being clipped in allows you to focus more on the trails rather than technique. That comes in very handy on long rides. Keep it up!!!

@jseski92097 жыл бұрын
Blake, these guys don't want you to move to clipless because YOU'RE JUST GOING TO BE FASTER & A BETTER RIDER than you already are...new level of sickness, dude!!! Once it becomes second nature to pop-out when you want to (it'll take a few more falls here & there, hopefully you'll have some more small pine trees to cushion the fall like in the end of the vid), you won't feel as safe or ride with as much confidence when you ride flats again. ONLY except is trials riding, which isn't really riding so much as a lot of bike tricks where you do some pedaling between tricks - fall/bail factor is way higher & I would fully agree flats are better there. Everything else, clipless all the way, mate!
