One of the greatest scenes on Dynasty. We see the full of range of Joan Collins' Alexis here, ruthless, vengeful and amoral yet also vulnerable, hurt and desperate - all channelled, (as most of Alexis's wickedness was) not through labyrinthine JR Ewing-like plotting but through raw, spontaneous emotional violence. What is also remarkable throughout the whole scene is her totally unshakeable belief that she's justified even when she isn't, just look at the vehemence and intensity with which she insists/lies "I swear it." She's just sublime. And Blake here as righteous, indignant and enraged is her prefect counterfoil, her cruelty is as evident in his pain as it in her original criminal act. This scene has all the ingredients that show how and why Dynasty became TV dynamite.

Granted that what Alexis did was reprehensible, but did anyone ever question why a pregnant woman would go ever horse back riding? Even if there was not a lady hiding behind a tree with a gun, anbything could happen--loose gravel, a backfire, a snake,...what the hell was Krystle thnking?

I thought the same thing, the horseback riding thing just seemed way too out there for my liking. When if they wanted to do a storyline with her losing the baby, she could've easily done so by tripping down the stairs or something similarly (if it was the story they were going with anyways) it just didn't add up for me.

this is why I always say Krystle may have won most of the PHYSICAL catfights w/ Alexis, but ALEXIS won the WAR. She caused Krystle's miscarraige, Krystle & Blake could never truly proove it & nothing that Krystle would do to Alexis in the years to follow would EVER trump what Alexis did to her when it came to bitchcraft & being ruthless.

Joan was perfect as Alexis. I love this clip becasue it shows just how vulnarble Alexis is when ruthless and maybee not so vulnarble after all. I think the wink to Classic Hollywood , with the Scarlett and Rhettesque fight is on purpose as both Joan Collins and John Forsythe ( as many Dynasty guest stars) were from that era. Forsythe worked with Hitchcock amongst others.

I realize that she's a woman desperately trying to recover her past, and regain what she's lost for so many years. But I think that is the very thing that makes her off-kilter albeit very compelling. You can tell here that her conscience is totally GONE as she pronounces, from her gut, that it was an accident. She'd swear before God and man that it was, too. From the standpoint of the viewer, this is utterly pathetic because unlike Blake, we SAW her do it. We know there is no doubt.
@Gatsbyesque17 жыл бұрын
Alexis provoking Krystle's fall from the horse and the scenes which surround that event flat out made the character psychotic, and while I don't like that the writers did that to my favorite character, it was instrumental to both Joan's success and the show...

I find Joan Collins is very B-grade in her acting. It's a totally old fashioned way to act. She over-emotes and over-enunciates, the way screen actresses in the old studio system used to speak. By the 1980s that style of acting was very old fashioned and outdated. It's very entertaining as far as soap acting is concerned, but she's completely over the top, and overly hammy and absurd. She's quite laughable really. That's not to say I don't enjoy watching her play Alexis, it's fun, and high camp. But as for "great acting," ummmm..... no.

She couldn't have even been 21 yet! She's been struggling to find herself ever since met Blake at 16. And then being the "outcast" for all those years. I think her mental state had been affected by all this. And just like a person who's mentally out of wack, she's trying to take herself back to that time in hopes of rectifying everything that went wrong. That means that if Krystle has to lose her baby and almost die, so be it.

Lol "Only human"??? This situation was demonizing, not humanizing for her. Why is it so hard to just admit that she was dead wrong, completely wrong, and that there was nothing at all redeeming about what the character did?

A lot of that was because of the perception of TV vs Film at the time tho. By today’s standards,both women had exceptional careers...Elizabeth in film and Joan in television. She obviously cannot let go of the pain of her past. Alexis has never, ever been happy. Up until this point, the only time she can likely remember being truly happy was in her early years with Blake, before the marriage turned sour. Before Adam was kidnapped. Before Blake turned cold and started traveling to numb the pain of the loss of his son, in the process abandoning Alexis to her own grief at the mansion. But consider how young she was when all that was going on...
