I did this to my 06 focus zx4. The only thing I bought was the new filter. I cut the same tube that has the mass air flow and moved it to right off the engine took like 20 minutes

Hi thanks for the video I wanted to give you some advise as a mechanic myself anytime you can reach a clamp get a 8mm socket and use a rachet or your drill impact to take them off the bottom clamp that you had to jack the car up for I got it with my little rachet and 8mm socket and that is the common size socket for hose clamps some do get smaller and bigger but not on the cars or reg trucks just wanted to give you that tip if you didn't already know that ok thanks

Did my 07 fucus a few years ago. Took all the stock box and tubing out. Flipped the tube around, and maf sensor. Put on a cone filter. Done.

I’m gonna do the same thing but I’m gonna take the other part of the tube you cut in half and replace it to that bottom part where the stock filter is to get a better air flow too the filter

If you put the mass air flow backwards the engine won't stay on just turn it around

You are just turning it from vertical to horizontal. As long as the the air is still coming in the same direction it's fine. Just make sure you don't turn that little tube the wrong way when you move it.

No you have to have the mass air flow go the right way or it will not run right

I have verified that you put the MAF housing on backwards. I would bet that the car will not go faster than 30mph without stalling

UPDATE: This guy put the airfilter on the wrong end of the pipe and the sensor is now backwards... you must have the maf positioned in the correct airflow direction or the car will not get passed 3000rpm

I also understand that the MAF and MAP will be “cross-referenced” in the ECU (I have a code for this now due to MAP & MAF readings not correlating…) so I’m curious as to whether or not you had any engine code, drivability issue, or fuel consumption increase since doing this, once again, due to the MAF being turned around 180 degrees. Thanks for any insight!

Turn the tube the other way around with the filter directly on it and the flexible new bit connected to the flexible old bit on the engine intake. Just did mine and had to swap it around to get my car to even accelerate into mid-rpms. CEL showed up while it was his way, so had to go to local auto parts and have them clear what was the MAF sensor. Bing bong, all is well since I flipped it around the other way. 07 Focus SE manual

Preferably and is what I did to my 2007 SES was install the Air Filter Housing SKP SK258519 fits 2005-2007 Ford Focus 2.0 2.3 DOHC, direct fit with replaceable air filter. This keeps the baffle and "Cold" air intake system, the only real issue with the original filter system was the inability to replace the filter. The rest of the system was designed correctly; was quiet and had true cold air as apposed to this method. I think the SKP housing costs about 80$ on eBay. I like to keep things as original as possible. This is still a decent mod just not one that I would do. Not myself interested in the additional noise under the hood.

Doing the swap now. One question though… Did you notice a difference in fuel consumption, considering the MAF sensor is now backwards..? Doing this now, I’m not seeing how it wouldn’t affect the sensor being that there appears to be a clear inlet side to the sensor… TIA

Question I have a 2009 ford focus PZEV and if I do that will it have any issues or did you have any issues later on? I change the box to where I put an air filter on my car and it gave me a P0171 code and the transmission completely acted weird and I had to replace the whole thing back to original but that looks like a very simple and amazing fix to the air filter solution I would say.

I did this and it idled perfectly fine but when i drove around the block the car kept almost shutting off and it ran terribly. I had to find a way to put it on the opposite way because the maf sensor cant just be turned around.

Looked closely in yhe video, the coupler used was Spectre Performance 8751 Black 3"-2-1/2" Intake Tube Coupler Not sure about the filter, but any universal one should work imo
