Some great footage Blake en route and on landing. Alitalia amazes me...as you mentioned they seem to survive after "going down the drain" at least once a year !! Cabin needs a bit of TLC and what do you expect re leg room in economy on many Euro carriers ?? Slowish service...it is an Italian airline after all !! Glad Mrs E or ( Mrs Airborne) enjoyed the coffee and they should get that right !! Great review mate !! Well done as always !!

Thanks for watching Craig, to be fair the service speed wasn’t terrible just very relaxed I guess. I learnt to appreciate the laid back way of doing things during my stay in Rome.

My very 1st flight was with Alitalia LHR via FCO to JNB in 1997. Breathtaking views of the alps as the sunset on route to Rome. The flight out to Joburg was on a McDonnell Douglas DC-10. The crew were not very friendly & food was poor quality when Italian cuisine is usually at a very high standard. Was 22 years ago when ready made meals on most airlines weren’t that great. Are there any airlines still flying today using a fleet of MD DC-10 passenger aircrafts. Was the one and only time I have flown on a 3-jet wide bodied aircraft. What aircraft did up take your 1st flight on Blake?

Oh I would have loved to experience a DC-10 I am incredibly jealous of you Nick. Sadly the aircraft is no longer in passenger use. My first ever flight was when I was very young on a Britannia Airways Boeing 737-200.

Basically Alitalia is a good airline. But it's often let down by industrial disputes with Italian aviation which have nothing to do with Alitalia itself. Such a pity Etihad was unable to continue backing the Italian national airline.

The slow and relaxed service is typical Italian. I had a project meeting in Rome once and we were already well behind with our agenda points...and the Italian host put on a "business" lunch....which took 2.5 hours 🤣

I did learn to appreciate that during my stay in Rome, much more relaxed compared to the madness of the UK and better food too. Not surprised the lunch lasted so long.

As an Italian, here's my short version about Alitalia: economy is not as shit as Ryanair, Business/First is not as luxury as Emirates. Alitalia = pretty much Vueling but Italian. Service onboard is amazing and lovely, service in italian airports otherwise is as rude as much as any Australian company (so... i mean VERY rude). Food is ok. Should be A LOT better for italian standards but... is actually fair for how much you pay.

Sorry to hear that you are not a fan, I personally enjoyed my Alitalia experience and hope to fly them long haul some day.
