@@srxberryxmilk1393: Not necessarily. The topics in general are always cold, but he always managed to address these issues that don't make it completely inappropriate for kids. It's like how Mr. Rogers gave a warning at the beginning of one episode where he addresses violence and shootings, which was made after the murder of John Lennon. It's also huge shame that a lot of kids shows now don't take as much risks like they once did.

When I was in elementary school, there was a kid with autism in my daycare. I asked the adults why he acted the way he did, and they told me he was autistic. Of course, being young and not knowing a lot, I thought they meant "artistic." I remember most kids making fun of him or talking about him negatively behind his back, but even as a kid, I knew better. I feel bad for never acting up sooner and standing up for the poor kid. That is why I think it is important to teach children about autism, and more than just that.

one of my favorite stories about mr rogers was the time a blind child’s family wrote in saying their son loved to listen to the show but was worried the fish weren’t getting fed everyday. so in natural mr rogers fashion, for every episode after that he would narrate every time he fed the fish so he and any other kid wouldn’t have to worry

Full House's abuse episode didn't address an elephant in the room: Charles might be safe but what happens in the foster system is horrific at best. That kid assuming he won't be adopted, will face a hard life ahead as kids in the system that age out of it often end up on the streets and often prison. There's also drug abuse, alcoholism, pregnancy, etc.

Ziko577 But in real life, there are options outside of foster care. Sometimes custody is shifted from the abuser to another relative (i.e. aunts/uncles, grandparents, older siblings, etc). My brother and I were appointed to our grandmother after our mother turned to drugs.

Ziko577 The Foster System is terrible, but there are many cases where parents are so terrible that foster homes are overall much better. There are opposite situations, but in most cases, the foster homes are better than the parents.

Mines is a similar topic, but it is different, but im sure others had parents like Mines too. My parents were never married but still had us and they cared for us, but they ended up splitting when me and my sister were pretty young, which in my sisters opinion might actually had an effect on me with my mental health, saying that I might have started having problems with separation. We still get to see and go to my dads house, but because of this pandemic, we can't go with him to the house because of where he works, but he is still very cautious of his surroundings. Even though they split, I knew they still loved each other, even my dad says that he still loves my mom and wants to be with her. Im glad that I still have them both, even when they are separated

He really was. I was old enough when he passed - I'd just turned 12 - to know that he was a real person. I knew that he wasn't just reading from a script in each episode when he spoke to us directly. He meant every word from the bottom of his heart. Coming from a split family where I sometimes felt like little more than a bargaining chip, it meant a lot to me to hear his closing lines every day. I learned a lot from him, we all did, and he cared about each an every one of us, even those he never met. Then, one Saturday evening at my grandparents' house, Mom-mom mentioned during dinner that Fred Rogers had passed away. I cried until I ran out of tears, but my father told me that the best way I could remember him would be to follow his example. I haven't always done a good job, but I try my best.

I think kids still need to be taught how to be safe on the web. People are getting too comfortable and risky with it by just handing their kids a tablet or phone and let them do what they want, and not explaining the dangers to them. I remember when my older brother got punished for over a month by our parents after he posted a profile picture of him on his MySpace holding a fake rifle that was found in our storage room in the basement of the apartment. At the time in 2008, he was 14, I was 12, and he asked me at the time to help him take the picture for him. Luckily, I didn’t get into trouble because they knew that it was not my fault and didn’t know what I was doing. Facebook, Twitter, and KZbin were in its early years and given that I was a bit young to have my own social media accounts around 2007/2008, I didn’t have to deal with those precautions. It’s crazy as to how much social media has changed within the past 10-15 years and how kids are getting younger and younger when using social media without knowing the precautions behind them.

It’s the same with criminal minds too If you haven’t seen it there’s a character named Spencer Reid he’s a genius who works for the FBI and it’s not touched upon but it is canon that Spencer has Aspergers, he can’t connect with people or he misses social cues sometimes he speaks out of turn or interrupts on accident There was one child named Sammy on the show, who has severe autism and is non verbal, he had witnessed his mother and father be kidnapped and he was the only one who knew where they were and who took them but bc he was non verbal he couldn’t tell them Spencer connected really well with Sammy and caught on that he was drawing what happened after he played piano with him, Rossi and Blake (two another characters) actually gave subtle hints they knew Spencer had autism but decided it wasn’t their place to share it Moral of the story is that everyone can do jobs disability or not, I really like characters with autism as my sister has it and it’s nice to see them

Have to disagree. Most people actually DO know this. Those who don't are probably severely uneducated/have extremely biased views and aren't the norm. Many adults with an average education actually mainly associate the term "spectrum" with autism before anything else. "autism spectrum" is a term almost everybody's heard of. On the other hand though, the general public doesn't really understand what autism can look like, especially since it varies from person to person (not just due to a spectrum of severity).

I'm surprised you didn't cover the episode of Courage the Cowardly Dog where a Cat girl is worried about her friend, Bunny. It's found out that the Bunny girl is being physically abused by her Dog boyfriend. Courage eventually helps deal with the Dog, and the Cat and Bunny run off together, happy and safe. It was also implied that the Cat has deeper feelings for her friend. Also, wasn't there another family sitcom episode that dealt with pedophiles but in another way that wasn't so obvious? Bruh I loved braceface. They tackled grooming, teen relationships, divorce, demanding parents, underage driving, and even more. I felt like though sometimes it could be rushed, they tackled a ton of big stuff. I enjoyed how in the episode tackling disordered eating, they also tackled weightism against those who are naturally bigger.

I can remember an episode of Teen Titans '03 where Starfire was a victim of racism. it had this character named Val-Yor who treated her like garbage when she was around just cuz she's a Tamaranean even calling her a Troqie (which is the Tamaranean version of the N word). the other titans were at first oblivious to starfire's treatment but later found out after she told Cyborg and Cyborg told Robin. Cyborg: Way to go, Troqie! Starfire: (gasps) You do not call me that! Cyborg: But Val-Yor calls you Troq all the time. Starfire: That does not make it right. Cyborg: What's up? I thought you said it didn't mean anything. Starfire: No. I said it means "nothing." When Val-Yor calls me "Troq," he is saying that I am worthless, a nothing. Cyborg: Star... Starfire: There are those on other planets who feel Tamaraneans are inferior. Troq is what they call us. Cyborg: So he's calling you a terrible name. Mr Rogers was a massive influence on many children’s life, you couldn’t say a negative thing about him. Now if you contrast the biggest influencers on young people today (for example Logan Paul) you see that although most children have learned mr Rogers teachings because of their parents, they are being influenced by these young men who don’t have the same life experience as they should be to give advice to an entire generation.

If a coach says she can't play on a team, it doesn't necessarily mean it's primarily because she's a girl. It's the down sides to being a girl, which is a lack of physical strength. How about Steven always trying to live up to his mother and kind of stress himself out about it. The problem with kids going to drastic measures to be just like their parents. Jasper's want to be in a relationship but not being able to create a healthy one no matter how hard she tries. When Steven leaves it tears Connie apart and leaves her a mess and then Steven just comes back like it's nothing. Steven is one of Connie's only friends and she doesn't really know how to react. How Steven always tries his hardest to fix everyone (including the gems) problems but when he asks for his "problems" to be solved people turn the blind eye. Blue Diamond is unable to get over Pink's "death", Pink wanting to be someone else, Peridot being thrown into something brand new, etc, etc. I'm sorry I'm babbling now.
